Introduction

Hearing of rebellion, Roy hurries his pace toward Ostia. According to his information, General Legance, an advisor to Hector, organized a rebellion with his lieutenant, Debias, to surrender to Bern. Legance keeps Lilina hostage in Castle Ostia, thinking she may be of use later.

Roy and company enter Ostia in an effort to rescue Lilina. Ostia, the largest and most populous city in Lycia, is to become a battlefield...

Opening

(At the throne occupied by Legance)

Legance: Is everything quiet, Debias?
Debias: Yes, General. The townspeople are no trouble. But the Ilian mercenaries that Hector hired still refuse to join us.
Legance: What more do they want? We already said we'd pay more!
Debias: Ilia's mercenary knights are famously loyal.
Legance: I know that, you bloated imbecile! But General Narcian will arrive soon! If we don't have Ostia under our control by then, he'll never take us seriously!
Debias: Y-yes, General.
Legance: Lilina may make for a valuable bargaining chip with the mercenaries... If her life is in danger, they should surrender. But that must be a last resort. First we must attempt to beat them into submission. The wyvern riders Bern sent us should prove invaluable! Debias, I want the mercenaries pacified and the castle gate secured. I will be inside the castle readying our defenses.
Debias: Yes, General!

(Leygance walks off the throne and exits the map through the north; Debias walks onto the throne and remains there)

(At the city gates)

Roy: How many of Ostia's troops have joined the rebellion?
Merlinus: Quite a large majority, I'm afraid. They've forgotten their fealty to Lord Hector. They all simply gave in to Bern because they're afraid. It's a disgrace, I tell you.
Roy: Is that so...
Merlinus: But it's not all bad news, Lord Roy! There's a band of mercenaries from Ilia that wish to join us to stop the rebels.
Guinivere: Mercenaries from Ilia, you say?
Merlinus: Oh, yes. They signed a contract with Lord Hector to fight Bern alongside Ostia.
Roy: They could be a great help. But do they know Lord Hector has passed away? Isn't their contract void now that he's gone?
Merlinus: I would have thought so, too, Lord Roy. They told me themselves however that they heard of Lord Hector's passing. They're still eager to fight with us.
Guinivere: They're only mercenaries. Why would they go so far?
Merlinus: Ilia is a frozen land with a harsh climate so the land is very infertile. And so, mercenary contracts are a major source of income in Ilia. Ilian mercenaries are said to never betray their employers, no matter what. It seems that's true indeed.
Roy: Then they should be powerful allies.
Merlinus: I agree! Fortune is still with us! But... the mercenary I spoke to also had some bad news. He said one of the three Wyvern Generals is headed here with a legion of wyvern riders. Should they aid the rebels, our chance of victory will be all but gone.
Guinivere: Roy... What are you going to do?
Roy: ...The Kingdom of Etruria might help us.
Guinivere: Etruria?! Is it possible?
Roy: General Cecilia, Mage General of Etruria, was my teacher in tactics at Ostia. I feel she may join forces with us if we ask.
Merlinus: I object, Lord Roy! If we have Etruria solve this Lycian matter, our reputation with them will never recover!
Roy: That may be so... But this is a matter of life or death for Lycia. We must ask for help, for if we don't, Lycia as we know it may become just a memory.
Merlinus: ...Lord Roy.
Roy: But we must act quickly! I've already penned a letter to General Cecilia. Merlinus, I need you to send the letter to her right away.
Merlinus: ...Yes, Lord Roy! I trust your judgment. I shall send it this instant.
Roy: With any luck, she'll make it in time. Get ready for combat, soldiers! We will retake Ostia!

In battle

At the end of turn 1, enemy phase

(Trec and Zelot ride out from the eastern house)

Zelot: It looks like the Lycian Army has commenced a counterattack on the rebels. Let's join them and quell this shameful little rebellion!
Trec: Uh-huh.
Zelot: Wait, where's Noah?
Trec: Uhhh, I think he went to the arena a little while ago. He said he's coaching some girl in swordplay.
Zelot: Noah, a coach? That's not like him... Has he made a little girlfriend, I wonder? Ha ha. Well, no matter. He can catch up with us later.
Trec: Uh-huh.
Zelot: Time for action. Move out.

At the end of turn 2, enemy phase

(Inside the arena)

Noah: Looks like they've started attacking the rebels. I need to get going, Fir.
Fir: Thank you for helping me, Sir Noah.
Noah: Of course. I sure was surprised when you came up to me though. Not many people would challenge someone to a match so quickly like that.
Fir: I-I'm sorry, Sir Noah. I'd never fought in the arena before...
Noah: If you'd asked anyone else, you'd be dead now. You need to look your opponent over carefully before choosing a fight.
Fir: And I must have the humility to surrender if it appears I'll lose.
Noah: Exactly. You can always get your money back, but don't throw your life away.
Fir: You're right! Thank you!
Noah: What will you do now? Will you stay here and continue practicing the sword?
Fir: No. I'm going to the Western Isles.
Noah: The Western Isles? Why?
Fir: They're constructing a new mine, so there are many new workers headed there. Miners are strong, so it's no doubt an ideal place to find new opponents to challenge. And besides...
Noah: Yes?
Fir: The Western Isles is where my mother first met my father. She's passed on, but at my age she traveled around the world training herself.
Noah: So that's it... You surprise me again.
Fir: Why?
Noah: I thought all you wanted was to become strong. I didn't realize you were following in your mother's footsteps. You do have a cute side after all!
Fir: ...Sir Noah! Please don't tease me!
Noah: Ha ha ha ha!

(Fir leaves the arena and exits the map through the south; Noah leaves the arena after her and becomes an allied unit)

At the end of turn 9, enemy phase

(At Debias' position)

Debias: The reinforcements should be arriving from the south soon. Heh heh... I want to see the look on their faces when they get hit from behind!

Talk conversations

Roy talks to Noah

Roy: Are you one of the Ilian mercenaries?
Noah: Sure am. Can I help you?
Roy: My name is Roy. I lead the Lycian Army.
Noah: Oh! I heard about you... I'm supposed to take orders from you now.
Roy: Are you sure that's all right?
Noah: What do you mean?
Roy: Don't you have to check in with your commander...?
Noah: He told us we're joining the Lycian Army. That's enough for me.
Roy: But did he mean like this?
Noah: This is a battlefield. There's no time to check everything with the commander. As long as I'm following orders, and I am, I can play it by ear.
Roy: I see. Thanks for the help.

(Noah joins the army)

Zelot talks to Noah, after Zelot has been recruited

Zelot: Noah!
Noah: Commander Zelot. Sorry I'm late.
Zelot: I heard you were coaching a girl in swordplay.
Noah: Yes... She was inexperienced and naive, so I felt obligated.
Zelot: She isn't with you?
Noah: She left. She said she was heading for the Western Isles.
Zelot: Pity. I thought she might have been of some help were she still here. But you, a coach? Since when do you care about other people? It's very unlike you.
Noah: Do you think so, sir?
Zelot: Oh, yes. I even joked with Trec saying that you fancied the lass. But THAT wouldn't be like you in the least, now would it?
Noah: ......

(Noah joins the army)

Roy talks to Trec

Roy: Are you one of the Ilian mercenaries?
Trec: Hmmm? Yeah, I guess so.
Roy: My name is Roy. I lead the Lycian Army.
Trec: Oh, I'll take your orders from now on then.
Roy: What? Just like that?
Trec: Hm?
Roy: You don't have to check in with your commander first?
Trec: Oh. Nah. He already said we're joining the Lycian Army.
Roy: But still...
Trec: Really, it's fine. This is a battle. There's no time to check every little thing with the commander. It's not as though I'm going against his orders anyway.
Roy: ...All right.

(Trec joins the army)

Zelot talks to Trec, after Zelot has been recruited

Zelot: Trec, we're now in service to the Lycian Army.
Trec: OK, I guess.
Zelot: Not the most enthusiastic response. You don't like the idea?
Trec: Wha? No, it's fine.
Zelot: Oh, well, all right then. Get to it then.
Trec: Lycia, huh...? Eh, it should all work out.

(Trec joins the army)

Roy talks to Zelot

Roy: Excuse me, are you Sir Zelot of the Ilian mercenaries?
Zelot: That's me. And you are?
Roy: My name is Roy. I lead the army that's fighting the rebels.
Zelot: You? Impressive... I expected someone older.
Roy: I'm here because Lord Hector asked me to be.
Zelot: Lord Hector... We've lost a great man. He was a true warrior.
Roy: We have to retake Ostia. For Lord Hector! And for Lilina...
Zelot: I concur. We'll offer what help we can.
Roy: Thank you for the assistance.
Zelot: Save the thanks for after we've retaken the castle. Come! We must concentrate on the enemy now!
Roy: Right!

(Zelot joins the army)

Trec talks to Zelot, after Trec has been recruited

Trec: Commander Zelot.
Zelot: Trec. What is it?
Trec: I just met with the commander of the Lycian Army.
Zelot: Ah, did you? Then we'll take any commands he gives from now on. Trec, I leave further negotiations with the Lycian League to you.
Trec: Yes, sir!

(Zelot joins the army)

Noah talks to Zelot, after Noah has been recruited

Noah: Commander Zelot!
Zelot: Ah, Noah. I heard you were at the arena.
Noah: Yes, sorry I'm late.
Zelot: Don't worry yourself... Things are just getting started. I haven't even spoken with the Lycian Army's commander yet.
Noah: Oh? Actually, I just spoke to him.
Zelot: Really? Then we'll take any commands he gives from now on. Noah, I leave further negotiations with the Lycian League to you.
Noah: Yes, sir!

(Zelot joins the army)

Houses/villages

The southwestern house

Elderly Man: Oh, this? This is a torch staff. It creates light in foggy places. If you're in fog, you can't attack anything you can't see. This should be helpful if you ever find yourself in that situation.

The western house

Middle-Aged Man: Look at this great bow I made. It fires arrows much farther than a normal bow! Very useful, don't you think? Of course you do. You can have it. I want it to go to good use.

(Longbow)

The left southeastern house

Middle-Aged Woman: A while back, I saw a man dying in the street. I helped him out, and he gave me this sword. Really strange person, but kind... Hm? This is the sword. You can have it! Take good care of it.

(Killing Edge)

The middle southeastern house

Girl: Are you going to help Lady Lilina? Here's a staff that can heal injuries from a distance! If Lady Lilina's hurt, please heal her...

(Physic)

The right southeastern house

Soldier: General Legance has allied himself with Bern! He had all who resisted him killed... I escaped, though. Please take this. It's a Hero Crest. Give this to an experienced hero, and fight to save Ostia...

(Hero Crest)

The left eastern house

Young Woman: Ostia is Lycia's greatest city! But now look at it... What did you say? You're out to restore our former glory? Then please, take this gem... It'll fetch a high price at any store! Just use the money to help Ostia!

(Red Gem)

The middle eastern house

Young Woman: Would you like to buy some elixir? It'll patch your wounds right up! The recipe is top secret... Don't ask, because I'm not telling! What's that? You don't want any? Here, I'll give you a free sample! You won't be disappointed.

(Elixir)

The right eastern house

Middle-Aged Man: Cavaliers, paladins... Mounted knights like those. This lance is incredibly effective against such soldiers. There are many horsemen in the rebel army, so use this against them!

(Horseslayer)

Battle quotes

Debias enters combat

Debias: You... you beat Bern's wyvern riders!? Ergh... I'll not let you pass!

Debias enters combat with Bors

Debias: Bors! You returned!
Bors: Causing a rebellion after Lord Hector's death?! That is inexcusable!

Debias dies

Debias: General Legance... Please be cautious... These people are... powerful...

Ending

Roy: The city is finally under control. Now let us retake Castle Ostia and rescue Lilina!
Merlinus: Lord Roy, I understand your apprehension, but please be patient! We still need to break down the castle gate.
Roy: ...Lilina.
Merlinus: Speaking of Lady Lilina... What do you think of what Lord Hector said?
Roy: You mean about the dragons? They were real, not just myth... Lord Hector was one of the greatest tacticians in Lycia. And yet his army was defeated in the blink of an eye...
Merlinus: Bern's army is perhaps the strongest in Elibe. I say, those wyvern riders were indeed very formidable opponents.
Roy: Of course the wyvern riders must have been difficult enough. But the dragons... I can't even conceive how powerful they must be. Lord Hector mentioned a weapon that is effective against dragons... I wonder where it's hidden.
Merlinus: I presume it must be one of the legendary weapons.
Roy: If we can obtain those, we might have a fighting chance against the dragons. But I do wonder what a legendary weapon is doing in Ostia.
Merlinus: Perhaps Lady Lilina knows the answer. I'm curious as well. Oh! Lord Roy, our men have finished knocking down the gate. We can enter now!
Roy: All right! Forward charge! Rescue Lilina, no matter the cost!
