During the Agustrian war with Sigurd's army, Holyn was fighting in the Agustrian gladiatorial scene, having risen to the top rank of gladiators in the region. Upon being defeated in a match by a member of Sigurd's army, he joined Sigurd's army himself, finding inspiration in their pursuit of a cause other than money.

Personality and character
Holyn considered the pursuit of money his primary motivation for his travels and work as a gladiator, but upon his encounter with Sigurd's army he came to consider it a hollow and meaningless endeavor compared to Sigurd's cause and the morale of his soldiers. Ever since they first met in their youth, he harbored a romantic interest in the Isacchian princess Ayra, and was determined to defend her above all else. In this respect he was mindful of ensuring she was prepared in case he was no longer able to protect her.
Love growths and events
- In Chapter 3, Holyn can talk to Ayra at any time, giving her a Brave Sword and 100 love points between the pair. Both Holyn and Lex may perform this conversation, and if Lex does it first Holyn cannot.
- In Chapter 5, if they are lovers, Ayra can talk to Holyn, yielding no reward.

- "You've got some serious spirit in your attack. Obviously you're not here for the money. Cash has been my motivator all these years... But after seeing you it kinda loses its meaning. You mind if I tag along? It'd be nice to fight for something real for a change." — Holyn, Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War
- "Ayra: Why do you look out for me? Is there something you haven't told me?
Holyn: Ayra, I've known you since I was a kid. Keeping you safe means everything to me.
Ayra: Eh!? Holyn... Hey, you weren't that boy from...
Holyn: Yep. I'm the son of the lord of Sophara. You stole my heart at a tender young age, Ayra." — Ayra and Holyn, Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War
- "I've a feeling things are going to get nasty here soon. Besides, anyone who fights like you could use a couple extra swords. Keep yourself well protected. I may not always be here to defend you." — Holyn, Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War
