Hisame: Good grief! When will my father grow up and stop acting like a lewd, disgusting...
Corrin: Hisame, did I catch you at a bad time? You look pretty angry.
Hisame: Ah, Corrin. No, you're just in time. I have a few things I'd like to share...
Corrin: O-OK...
Hisame: ...About my father.
Corrin: You mean...Hinata?
Hisame: Exactly. His attitude toward relationships makes me ill. The way he fawns over every woman he comes across, you'd forget he was married!
Corrin: It could be worse, right? He could be rude to every woman he comes across.
Hisame: I see your point... but, no. Today, he was at the market, and the sales- woman flirted her way right into his wallet. He was so busy ogling her that he didn't notice the price on anything! Now, we could probably set up our own shop. We have enough clothes!
Corrin: Wow. I don't know what got into him.
Hisame: I wish I could say this was a onetime thing, but no—Father does this ALL the time! I can't believe we're even related. Here I am, afraid to even approach a woman...
Corrin: You are?! Why?
Hisame: What do you mean, "Why?" Do you really need a reason?! Girls are intimidating!
Corrin: Hmm... So it seems that you and your father both share a weakness for women.
Hisame: Wh-WHAT DID YOU SAY?!
Corrin: Maybe you and your father are two of a kind after all. That's sort of cute.
Hisame: M-me...and my father...th-the same? No, you must be confused.
Corrin: Hisame...are you OK?
Hisame: I'm sorry. I need to go piece my life back together.
(Hisame leaves)
Corrin: Hmm... Did I say something wrong?

B Support

Hisame: Hey, Corrin. Listen to this!
Corrin: What's happened now?
Hisame: I'll give you one guess. It's my father again—my sick, twisted, no-good father!
Corrin: Wow. Calm down, Hisame. You're losing your cool!
Hisame: Y-you're right. Sorry about that.
Corrin: ...Well?! Are you going to tell me what happened this time?
Hisame: So Father decided to round up a bunch of friends and hold a sword-fighting class...
Corrin: That sounds really nice of him.
Hisame: Sure... Except all of his students were girls! That would've been fine if he hadn't felt the need to show them how to hold a sword... He kept wrapping his arms around them from behind, grinning like an idiot!
Corrin: It sounds like you're being a little harsh... In your book, you wouldn't want your father to talk to women—any women at all, right?
Hisame: W-well, not like that! Why can't he be more like a proud, dignified warrior?
Corrin: I see what's going on here. We call this "hero worship."
Hisame: What?!
Corrin: You clearly love your father so much you can't accept his less-than-perfect behavior. Maybe that's your problem with women too... They are always catching you off guard.
Hisame: It's an interesting theory.
Corrin: I am very touched by how much you love and respect your parents.
Hisame: OK, now you're just messing with me again.
(Corrin leaves)
Hisame: Yeah... You better run! ...Even if you might be right.

A Support

Corrin: You seem a little down, Hisame. You're not still thinking about your father, are you?
Hisame: Actually, yes...
Corrin: I think you're taking this whole thing way too seriously.
Hisame: But it's a serious problem! Do you think a weakness for women could be debilitating in battle?
Corrin: I don't even know how to answer that. ...Hmm... No, Hisame. I think it might be the opposite.
Hisame: How so?
Corrin: You can't help but notice when a woman is around, right? ...And you treat these women as people you should respect and honor?
Hisame: Absolutely.
Corrin: In this world, there are a lot of bad guys who are violent toward women... Compared to them, you and your father are practically role models!
Hisame: That might be taking it a bit far.
Corrin: Soldiers need strong bodies and hearts in order to protect the weak. In that sense, I think both you and your father are model soldiers.
Hisame: I never thought of it that way. That's a nice thought... If only it were true! Heh heh.
Corrin: Hisame, I finally made you smile!

Hisame: *crunch* *crunch* Mmm...perfection. Yet again.
(Hisame leaves)
Corrin: Hello, Hisame. What are you eating?
Hisame: Corrin?! What are you doing here? You surprised me!
Corrin: I'm sorry! It just looked like you were having a little snack. I was going to see if you'd be willing to share. But now that I see you're just eating raw veggies...I'll be on my way.
Hisame: Raw veggies? Please tell me you're joking. Are you completely ignorant of the fine art known as pickling?
Corrin: I...I suppose I must be. What's pickling?
Hisame: Gods. OK, deep breath, Hisame. Pickling is the time-honored art of preserving vegetables. You essentially brine the vegetables in a broth of vinegar and salt.
Corrin: Ah, so you preserve them by making them taste even more repellent?
Hisame: What a dark and desolate life you've lived in the absence of pickles. Listen, I'm going to give you a pickle, and you are going to eat it. You do not have a choice in this matter.
Corrin: All right. Here goes nothing. *crunch* *crunch* Hey, that's not bad!
Hisame: You see?
Corrin: I do. I'm afraid I'll need another bite. And you're going to have to tell me where you got these.
Hisame: Oh ho! I made them myself, of course. I've perfected the recipe over many years.
Corrin: Wow. So while other children were out playing, you were making pickles?
Hisame: Yes. Much to the dismay of my father, I might add. But never mind that. Now that you're hooked, we must expand your palate. Shall I stop by with some new varieties for you to try later?
Corrin: I'd love that! Thank you!
Hisame: You're welcome. I'm just pleased to have made another pickle pal.
Corrin: Do we have to call it that?

B Support

Hisame: Good day, Corrin. I've come bearing pickles, as promised.
Corrin: Mmm, I can't wait to try them.
Hisame: Well, I hope you have a strong appetite. I've brought three varieties today.
Corrin: This does look like a lot of food. I hope you didn't go to too much trouble...
Hisame: It was nothing. I pickle constantly in my spare time.
Corrin: *crunch* *crunch* I mean, these are delicious, but how did you come to be so dedicated to pickling?
Hisame: Well, you know how some people rebel against their parents? Staying out late? Wearing silly clothing? Breaking the rules? I made pickles because my father hated them.
Corrin: Oh. I'm sorry to hear that.
Hisame: It's OK. Ancient history. However, I will say that one of my life's goals is to make a pickle so good... ...that my father will actually eat it.
Corrin: Well. If these pickles aren't good enough, it seems you have a long road ahead.
Hisame: Perhaps. But in the meantime, I will surely get to enjoy many a delicious pickle.
Corrin: Well, good luck. And thank you again for the delicious pickles.
Hisame: You're welcome. Now, if you'll excuse me, I must stir my latest test batch.
(Hisame leaves)
Corrin: The man sure loves his pickles...

A Support

Corrin: Hello, Hisame! Thanks again for all those pickles the other day. How's your latest batch coming along?
Hisame: Ah, Corrin! They're coming along quite nicely. Thanks for asking. I wonder if you're ready to take the next step... Would you like to learn how to make your own pickles?
Corrin: Really? You'd teach me? I guess I assumed that your recipe would be a closely guarded secret.
Hisame: Nothing of the sort. One of my goals is to popularize pickle consumption. So, of course, I'm always happy to share.
Corrin: Great! It's funny; I never thought I'd be getting this excited over something like pickles.
Hisame: And I never thought I'd be able to converse so freely with a beautiful woman. I mean, uh...
Corrin: Um, what?
Hisame: Sorry...that was awkward. But that's exactly what I meant. Unless I'm talking about pickles, I tend to get flustered around women.
Corrin: Well, I never would have guessed. You seem perfectly at ease to me.
Hisame: Well, as long as we keep this relationship strictly pickle-platonic, I should be fine. So, to that end, I believe we were discussing you learning how to pickle.
Corrin: Yes, that's right. What do I need?
Hisame: You will need only the basics. A few jars, a few ingredients, and my knowledge. Come! Pickle paradise awaits!
Corrin: Pickle paradise? I can't imagine why you'd have a hard time talking to women...

S Support

Corrin: Hey, Hisame! Check out my first batch of pickles!
Hisame: Ah, very nice. Very fragrant, and... *crunch* the texture is sublime.
Corrin: You really think they're good?
Hisame: Oh, yes. It took me years to achieve results this good. I can't believe it's your first batch.
Corrin: Aww, thank you. I couldn't have done it without your help.
Hisame: Well, your success is encouraging. It has encouraged me, in fact.
Corrin: Oh? How so?
Hisame: This may get awkward. Please brace yourself... But I've found that I can't stop thinking about you, Corrin. Even when I'm mixing my pickle brine, my thoughts drift to you. Is it strange that pickles should have brought us together like this? Am I totally off base? Have I gone too far? You're...you're not saying anything. Oh, gods, what have I done?
Corrin: Hisame...relax. Take a deep breath.
Hisame: *huff* *huff* Corrin...will you go out with me?
Corrin: Yes.
Hisame: You mean it?
Corrin: Yes! Hisame, I've been falling for you since the day we met. I don't care that it took the power of pickles to bring us together.
Hisame: I can't tell you how happy this makes me. Just think...we could grow old together. We could be that old couple at the park that always smells like pickles.
Corrin: Look, I like pickles, but THAT is too far. Let's just take this one step at a time.
Hisame: You're right, Corrin. I'm sorry. We're still pickle partners, though, right?
Corrin: Yes. Let's just try to think of a new name for it sooner rather than later...

(Confession Scene)
Hisame: Our love is stronger than the world's most pungent pickle. Won't you dive into the brine with me?

Corrin: Hey, Hisame. Do you have a moment?
Hisame: Oh, hello, Mother. What do you—? Wait, is that—? Why do you have that?!
Corrin: Aha! I thought it was yours. I just found it while I was going through my stuff. It's a diary, correct?
Hisame: Y-yes. It is. Why? Did you read any of it?
Corrin: Of course I didn't! Or rather, I couldn't. Even if I wanted to. There's a lock.
Hisame: Oh, thank the gods! I'd forgotten about that lock! May I have the book now, then?
Corrin: Oh. Um. Sure!
Hisame: Excelle— Mother? You, um...you can let go now. ...Is something wrong?
Corrin: Well... I just thought... Are you sure I can't read it...just a tiny bit?
Hisame: N-no! There are some things that should remain private!
Corrin: Ohhhhhhh. I see. Yes...a boy your age would have all kinds of thoughts best kept from his mother. But to fill an entire book with them...
Hisame: Just what are you trying to imply?! Besides, this diary is from when I was much younger! To be honest, I don't even remember what I wrote. I just know it was private.
Corrin: Oh, really?
Hisame: Yes, really. May I please have the book back now?
Corrin: ...Fine. Here.
Hisame: Thank you. Now, if you don't mind, I'll be on my way.

Corrin: Hey, Hisame. I had some questions about that old diary of yours...
Hisame: What? You did read it, didn't you?!
Corrin: No, I didn't. Don't worry. It just got me thinking, is all. When you were little, we didn't get to spend much time together, right? So I was wondering if you might be willing to share anything you happen to find in it... Things about you. What you were like. Stories and stuff... Is that OK?
Hisame: Of course it is, Mother. It makes me very happy to hear you ask that. Hm. Perhaps we could read it together?
Corrin: Are you sure? You seemed so upset at the idea I'd read any of it before.
Hisame: Yes, I'm sure. I think it will be fine, so long as I can skip any parts I don't wish to share. I truly don't remember what is in it.
Corrin: Heehee. All right. Let's do it!
Hisame: Right now? All right, let me just find the key... Ah! There we go. Now, let's see... "Today was a great day. Mama came to see me!" "I wonder when I'll get to see her next. Maybe it'll be real soon this time!" "We got to play a lot today. I don't think I'll feel lonely again for a while!" Haha. It appears as though I wrote about your visits on nearly every page.
Corrin: Hisame... You were always thinking about your father and I, weren't you?
Hisame: Oh, well, I don't know about that. I am pretty surprised that there's nothing about my daily life in here, though. You'd think I'd have written about something else. At least a few times... But I suppose those visits were always the things I looked forward to most. They were rare treats, after all.
Corrin: Yes. I realize now how much of a blessing it is that we can see each other every day. We must appreciate every moment we are given.
Hisame: I feel the same way, Mother.

Corrin: No, no. I'm just still thinking about your old diary. I was very happy you let me read it with you, but...it was hard to hear. You were always waiting for us to come visit you, and we made it so rarely... I'm so sorry, Hisame... We caused you so much pain.
Hisame: Please...it's all right. I understand why things had to be the way they were. Besides, I'm happier now than I have ever been. As a child, all I'd think about was when I might see you and Father next. But now I fight alongside you. I can contribute. I have purpose. So do not trouble yourself too much over me. I am content.
Corrin: Hisame... Thank you. I'm sorry for letting you see this side of me. I have to be strong.
Hisame: I did nothing. But I do hope you're feeling better.
Corrin: I am. And I promise...I will never allow us to be parted like that again.
Hisame: And I pray the day never comes when anything threatens to part us. Thank you, Mother.

Azura: Of course not. I could tell just from looking at it that it was a diary. Besides, this little lock on the front kept me out.
Hisame: I'd forgotten about the lock. I'm glad I put it on there... Could I have the diary back now? Hey...why are you gripping it so hard?
Azura: Er, well... I guess I am a little bit curious about what you've written in there.

Hisame: Oh no, you did read it, didn't you?
Azura: No! I was telling the truth before. I didn't even lift a page. It's just that...when you were growing up, we couldn't spend much time together. So I was wondering if you'd like to share some of what you wrote back then.
Hisame: Oh...
Azura: We lost a lot of time, but I want to learn as much as I can about you. That's not so wrong, is it?
Hisame: No, I'm glad that you want to know more about me. Perhaps...we could read my old diary together? I really don't recall what I wrote.
Azura: Are you sure you're OK with that?
Hisame: I think it could be fun to look back at that time with you, Mother. Of course, I'll want to skip over anything we might find that I don't want to share. I hope that's OK.
Azura: Heehee, of course. Shall we start reading right now?
Hisame: Yes! I actually have the diary with me... And there's the key... Open! "Today is a good day, because Mother came to see me." "I'm only sad because she had to leave so soon afterward." "We got to play a lot today, though, so I won't be lonely when she's gone." Oh wow, it looks like I wrote about your visits on pretty much every page...
Azura: Hisame. You were always so patient with your father and I. Always waiting for us.
Hisame: I didn't realize I had written so much about you and Father in here... I thought this would have at least some stuff about my daily life. That's fine, though. It's nice to have these memories of when you two would visit.
Azura: This really makes me appreciate the time we can spend together now, Hisame.
Hisame: Me, too! I'm glad I'm here with you, Mother.

Hisame: Mother? You look unhappy. Is everything OK?
Azura: Oh! Hello, Hisame. Nothing's wrong— don't worry.
Hisame: If nothing is wrong, then what's making you look so sad? Is it something you don't feel you can discuss with your son?
Azura: No, it's that... Well, I just feel embarrassed even bringing it up. I was thinking about your diary again.
Hisame: You mean the one we were reading the other day?
Azura: Yes. I was so happy that you were willing to share that with me, but it also...hurt. It was tough to hear about how patiently and innocently you waited for us. We have no good excuse for making you feel so lonely all the time...
Hisame: Oh, Mother...
Azura: I know it's all part of the past now, but I can't help but feel horrible for it. Hisame, I am so sorry...
Hisame: Please don't let it drag you down so much. I'm more than happy to be with you now! Here, I feel like I live every day to its maximum potential. As a child, all I'd think about was when I might see you next, but here... I get to fight alongside you and all our friends! I've never been happier than I am here. So please—don't feel sad, Mother!
Azura: Thank you, Hisame. I'm happy to hear you say that.
Hisame: I barely did anything! But I'm glad you feel better.
Azura: I'm also happy because, from now on, we can spend plenty of time together!

Mozu: Hey, Hisame. Got a moment?
Hisame: Ah, hello, Mother. What do you—? Wait, is that—? Why do you have that?!
Mozu: Oh, this? It's yours, right? I found it when I was cleaning out my things. It's a diary, right?
Hisame: Y-yes. It is. Why? Did you read any of it?
Mozu: Nope. Just thought it kinda looked like one. I didn't read it or anything. Besides, it's got a little lock on it—see?
Hisame: Oh, thank the gods! I'd forgotten about that lock! May I have the book now, then?
Mozu: Ah...um...sure, hon.
Hisame: Excelle— Mother? You, um...you can let go now. ...Is something wrong?
Mozu: Well...I was thinking...maybe you could let me read it? Just a little bit?
Hisame: No! There are some things that should remain private. Even from one's family!
Mozu: Ohhhh, I see. I suppose boys your age have lots of thoughts best kept from their mothers. It's only natural for a healthy young man. But to fill a whole book with them...
Hisame: Just what are you trying to imply?! And in any case, this diary is from when I was much younger! To be honest, I don't even remember what I wrote. I just know it was private.
Mozu: Oh. That's all it was?
Hisame: Yes. So may I please have it back now?
Mozu: I don't got a choice, do I? Here ya go.
Hisame: Thank you. Now, if you don't mind, I'll be on my way.
(Hisame leaves)
Mozu: And there he goes. I know I shouldn't be nosing around in his business... But I still wanna know what he's got in that thing…

Mozu: Hey, Hisame. I had some questions about that old diary of yours.
Hisame: What? You DID read it, didn't you?!
Mozu: No, no. Course I didn't. It just got me thinking, is all. When you were little, we didn't get to spend much time together, right? So I was wondering if you might be willing to share anything you happen to find in it... I want to know more about you. Stories and the like, you know? Is that OK?
Hisame: Yes. I'm glad you want to know more about me. Hm. Perhaps we could read it together?
Mozu: Are you sure? Before, you seemed so upset at the idea I'd read it...
Hisame: Yes, I'm sure. I think it would be fun to look back on those times with you. However, I truly don't remember what I wrote in it... So I reserve the right to skip over anything I do not wish to share.
Mozu: Heehee. All right. Let's do it!
Hisame: Right now? All right, let me just find the key... Ah! There we go. Now, let's see... "Today was a great day! Mama came to see me." "I wonder when I'll see her next. Maybe it'll be real soon this time." "We got to play a lot today, so I don't think I'll feel lonely again for a while." Haha. It appears as though I wrote about your visits on nearly every page.
Mozu: Hisame... You were always thinking about us, weren't you?
Hisame: Oh, I don't know if it was ALWAYS. I am surprised that there's nothing about my daily life in here, though. But I suppose those visits were always the things I looked forward to most. They were a rare treat, after all.
Mozu: Yeah. I'm realizing now just how blessed we are, getting to see each other every day. We've got to appreciate every moment we get!
Hisame: Heh. I feel the same way, Mother.

Mozu: Wh-who, me? I'm fit as a fiddle!
Hisame: Then why do you look so distressed? Or...is it something you'd prefer not to discuss with your son?
Mozu: No, no. I'm just still thinking about that diary of yours. I was happy you let me read it with you, but...it was hard to hear those things. You were always waiting for us to come visit you, and we made it so rarely... I feel right terrible for giving you such a sad and lonely childhood. And I know it's too late to be saying this and that words don't fix nothing... But I'm so, so sorry, darling.
Mozu: ...Thank you, Hisame. You're an inspiration to us all.
Hisame: It was nothing. But I'm glad that it helped.
Mozu: It did. And I promise...I'll never allow us to be separated like that again!
Hisame: And I pray the day never comes when anything threatens to part us. Thank you, Mother.

Hinoka: Ah, I thought it might be yours. I just found it while I was organizing my things. It's a diary, right?
Hisame: Y-yes. It is. Why? Did you read any of it?
Hinoka: Nah. It just looks like one, is all. Besides, I couldn't even if I wanted to. It's got a lock on it.
Hisame: Oh, thank the gods. I'd forgotten about that. May I have it, then?
Hinoka: Um. Sure.
Hisame: Very goo— Mother? You, um...you can let go now. ...Is something wrong?
Hinoka: Well, see...now I'm curious.
Hisame: Well, I'd very much prefer if you didn't indulge that curiosity! There are some things that should remain private, even from one's mother.
Hinoka: Ahhhh. I see. OK. You're a healthy young man, after all. It's only natural that you'd be having those thoughts. But to fill a whole book...
Hisame: Just what are you trying to imply?! I'll have you know that diary is from when I was much younger! To be honest, I don't even remember what I wrote. I just know it was private.

Hisame: Of course it is, Mother. It makes me very happy to hear you're interested. Hm. Perhaps we could read it together?

Peri: Hey! Hey! Hisame!
Hisame: Oh, hello, Mother. What do you—? Wait, is that—? Why do you have that?!
Peri: Aha! I knew it was yours! I just found it while I was going through my stuff. It's a diary, right?
Hisame: Y-yes. It is. Why? Did you read any of it?
Peri: Nope! It just looks like one, is all. Besides, I couldn't read it even if I wanted to. There's a lock on it.
Hisame: Oh, thank the gods! I'd forgotten about that! May I have it, then?
Peri: Oh. Um. Sure!
Hisame: Excell— Mother? You, um...you can let go now. ...Is something wrong?
Peri: Well, see...now I'm sorta curious about whatcha wrote in here...
Hisame: Well, I'd very much prefer it if you didn't indulge that curiosity! There are some things that should remain private. Even from one's mother.
Peri: C'mon, Hisame! You don't need to worry! Your secrets are safe with me. And I won't judge! I understand boys your age have certain thoughts—
Hisame: Just what are you trying to imply?! Besides, I'll have you know that diary is from when I was much younger! To be honest, I don't even remember what I wrote. I just know it was private.
Peri: Oh, really? That's boring...
Hisame: Yes, very. May I please have it back now?
Peri: OK, OK. Here you go.
Hisame: Thank you. Now, if you don't mind, I'll be on my way.
(Hisame leaves)
Peri: Hisame sure gets embarrassed easily... Hm. I'm still really curious about that diary, though...

Peri: Hey, Hisame. I had some questions about that old diary of yours.
Hisame: What? You did read it, didn't you?!
Peri: Nope! Don't worry. It just got me thinking, is all. When you were little, we didn't get to spend much time together, right? So I was wondering if you might be willing to share anything you happen to find in it... Stuff about you. What you were like. Stories, you know? Is that OK?
Hisame: Of course it is, Mother. It makes me very happy to hear you say that. Hm. Perhaps we could read it together?
Peri: Are you sure? You seemed so upset at the idea I'd already read some of it.
Hisame: Yes...I think it will be fine. It would be fun to look back on that time with you. But I truly don't remember what I wrote. So I reserve the right to skip over anything we might find that I do not wish to share.
Peri: Sounds good to me. Let's do it!
Hisame: Right now? All right, let me just find the key... Ah! There we go. Let's see... "Today was a great day. Mom came to see me!" "I wonder when I'll get to see her next. Maybe it'll be real soon this time." "We got to play a lot today, though! I don't think I'll feel lonely for a while." Heh. It appears as though I wrote about your visits on nearly every page.
Peri: You spent so much time thinking about us... What a wonderful, caring son!
Hisame: I'm actually surprised that there's nothing about my daily life in here. You'd think I'd have written about something else. At least a few times... But I suppose those visits were always the things I looked forward to most. It was a rare treat, after all.
Peri: Yeah. It's a real blessing that we can see each other whenever we want now! So let's make sure to appreciate every moment!
Hisame: Heh. I feel the same way, Mother.

A Support

Peri: Hm.
Hisame: Mother? You don't seem well. Is everything all right?
Peri: Huh? Oh, yeah. I'm OK.
Hisame: Then why do you look so distressed? Or...is it something you'd prefer not to discuss with your son?
Peri: No, no. I'm just...still thinking about that diary of yours. I was very happy you let me read it with you, but...it was hard to hear, too. You thought about us all the time...even though we weren't able to visit you much. I'm so, so sorry, Hisame. We've been the worst parents ever to you!
Hisame: Please, it's all right. I understand why things had to be the way they were. Besides, now I'm happier than I have ever been. As a child, all I'd think about was when I might see you and Father next. But now I fight alongside you. I can contribute. I have purpose. So do not trouble yourself too much over me. I am content.
Peri: Hisame... OK. I won't. Thank you.
Hisame: I did nothing. But I hope what I said made you feel better.
Peri: It did! And I'll do anything to keep us from ever being parted like that again!
Hisame: And I pray the day never comes when anything threatens to part us. Thank you, Mother.

Kana: Hey, Hisame! Wanna go on patrol with me?
Hisame: Huh? You mean right now?
Kana: Mhm! I want to help everyone out as much as possible! Which for now means patrolling as much as possible! Are you in?
Hisame: Yes, I believe I can do that. What kind of elder brother would I be if I said no?
Kana: Yay! Let's go!
Hisame: Er—wait. You mean just the two of us?
Kana: Yup! You'll be OK, though. I've been training a whole lot.
Hisame: I'm not worried about myself...
Kana: It'll be fine, it'll be fine! With our special sibling powers, we can take on anything!
Hisame: Heh. All right. Fine. But you must stick close to me, all right?
Kana: Woohoo! We should go patrolling every day!
Hisame: E-every day?
Kana: Yeah! I mean, patrols need to be done every day anyways. Why not by us?
Hisame: Every...day...
Kana: What's the matter?
Hisame: Oh, nothing. Just giving up all hope of free time for the foreseeable future.
Kana: Oh, OK. Yay! Let's get moving!

Kana: Thanks for coming on patrol with me today, Hisame!
Hisame: No problem, Kana. I've been enjoying these little patrols. It's neat seeing my little brother grow into a capable young man.
Kana: You mean it?!
Hisame: Of course. I think you've got a natural talent for this sort of thing.
Kana: Heehee. Thanks! What about you? Do you have any special talents?
Hisame: Me? I'm not sure if I do. I am, however, very practiced in the use of the blade.
Kana: You're amazing, Hisame! I bet if we combined our powers, we'd be unstoppable!
Hisame: I'm not so sure about that. But perhaps we would be formidable, yes.
Kana: Yeah! Now, we should get moving. We're burning daylight here! We've still got a long ways to go if we're gonna be the best patrollers in camp.
Hisame: K-Kana? Kana! Hey, wait for me!

A Support

Kana: Hisame! Guess what time it is! That's riiiiiiiiiight! It's patrol time!
Hisame: Very well, then. Let us go.
Kana: Er, but...first, I wanted to ask you a favor.
Hisame: A favor? What is it?
Kana: I want you to teach me how to be like you!
Hisame: Hm? What do you mean?
Kana: Like, how to use a sword! 'Cause I'm the youngest kid in camp, right? So there's a lot I still can't do. But if I learn a bunch of new skills, maybe I can be more useful! Besides, I've always wanted to learn something from my big brother! I used to wonder a lot about what it would be like to spend more time with you.
Hisame: Kana...
Kana: So now that I can, I want to learn as much from you as possible! ...Is that OK?
Hisame: Of course it's OK. I'm glad you asked. I'll teach you everything I know.
Kana: Thank you so much!
Hisame: But I'm not going to let you get ahead of me so easily. I want to learn from you too. Let's make it a competition. To see who can grow stronger the fastest.
Kana: OK, but I won't lose! That's a promise!
Hisame: We shall see. So then, today is patrol duty. Tomorrow, the real training begins.
Kana: Sounds good to me!

Kana: Hey, Papa. Can I talk to you about something?
Hisame: Of course, Kana. What is it?
Kana: It's Mama. I feel like she's always treating me like a child.
Hisame: Well, that's only natural. You're her little boy. And you ARE still quite young.
Kana: I know, I know. I just mean I'm not as young as I used to be. I want to help out with stuff too. But whenever I try, she just tells me to go play with my friends instead.
Hisame: Ah, I see. You want some responsibilities of your own.
Kana: Yeah! I want to show her that she can count on me. Can you think of any special things I could do for her?
Hisame: Hm. Well, I often make asazuke pickles for her. She says she finds them very tasty.
Kana: Oh.
Hisame: Perhaps you would like to make some pickles for her with me?
Kana: B-but I want to do something special from me! Pickles are a special Papa gift!
Hisame: Ah, yes. I see how that would present a problem. Let me think...
Kana: Oh, I know! Let's have a contest, Papa!
Hisame: A contest?
Kana: Yeah! We'll have a contest to see which of us can make Mama happier! Between the two of us, I'm sure we can come up with all sorts of things! Whoever Mama thanks the most wins!
Hisame: A father-son competition, eh? Interesting. Very well. I accept your challenge.
Kana: Really? Yay!
Hisame: But remember. I am Corrin's husband—the second half of her soul. Besting me will be no mean feat. And I do not intend to go easy on you.
Kana: That's fine by me, Papa. I'm gonna beat you fair and square!
Hisame: Hmph. Then may the best man win!

B Support

Kana: Hey, Papa! I've been making so much progress on our contest! How about you?
Hisame: Well, I haven't done anything too special yet, but I've received a number of thanks. I've a tally right here, too. Take a look.
Kana: WOW! That's a lot! You got all these already?
Hisame: I am as surprised as you. I did not realize how much I did for your mother, I suppose. Although I must admit, it is a welcome surprise.
Kana: Hmph... Well, I'm still not going to lose! Here, see! I recorded all mine too! And the total is...um...
Hisame: O-oh. I was not expecting this. You have the same number as me.
Kana: I do? I do! Haha! Kana's gonna beat you big-time, Papa! I don't have to work like you, so I can spend all day helping her!
Hisame: Ah, so that's your secret. And what kind of tasks have you been performing for her?
Kana: Mostly I've been trying to help out around camp! I spend each morning making arrows for the fletchers. Then, at lunch, I slice the bear meat and hand out the food to the soldiers. Oh, and at night I make sure the mounts are all fed and outfitted for the next day. Plus I do a bunch of other little things whenever I have time!
Hisame: Heh. Very good. You've been quite diligent. ...You really have been growing up, haven't you?
Kana: Huh?
Hisame: Oh, just a thought. It wasn't so long ago you were still in your swaddling clothes. Now, all of a sudden, you're making real, important contributions to the army. Maybe I've been treating you like too much of a child as well.
Kana: Heehee. Yeah, I've been working real hard. Soon there'll be nothing I can't do!
Hisame: I believe it. And I bet your mother is very proud of you for all your hard work.
Kana: I hope so. And I'm gonna work even harder for her tomorrow!
Hisame: Hmph. Looks like I can't afford to get careless...

A Support

Kana: *grumble*
Hisame: Hey, Kana.
Kana: Hi, Papa...
Hisame: What's wrong? I'd expected you to still be exulting over your little victory the other day. Or has besting your old man already lost its novelty?
Kana: Oh, no. I'm still happy about that, I guess. It's just that I was trying to do things for Mama earlier, and she made me stop. She said I should be spending more time playing around with my friends. She still thinks I'm just a kid. Haven't I shown her I'm old enough to help out around camp?
Hisame: Ah, so that's it. I would not worry. It's not you. You are doing good work, I promise.
Kana: Then why doesn't she want me to help with anything?
Hisame: I think your mother knows full well you're capable of handling the work. But seeing you acting so grown up makes her feel sad.
Kana: Huh? Why?
Hisame: Well, she doesn't want to lose her baby boy. She is very, very proud that you're growing up and working so hard. But at the same time, she's worried it means you won't need her anymore. It's a little contradictory, but it's true. Parents can be funny like that.
Kana: So...what should I do?
Hisame: I'd say to keep doing things around camp, but don't work yourself so hard. Take breaks to see your friends, play games, go on adventures. You know. And try to spend some quality time with your mother every now and then. Do you think you can handle that?
Kana: But...
Hisame: What? You don't want to spend time with your mother?
Kana: No, that's not it! It's just...I feel like that stuff is for babies.
Hisame: No, Kana, it's not for babies. It's for children. And your mother wants you to stay a child for just a little while longer. We both do.
Kana: Papa...
Hisame: Kana, we know that you're growing and that you want more responsibilities. And we know that you're going to grow up to be a fine young man someday. But for now...relax. Don't try to grow up too quickly.
Kana: OK. Thanks, Papa. I'll think real hard about everything you've said.
Hisame: Good. You know... I think it would be good if you spent the night in with your mother. I'll go talk to her about it.
Kana: Wait! What about you?
Hisame: What?! No, I've got to—
Kana: But, Papa! Don't you need a break sometimes too? And don't you want Mama and me to be happy?
Hisame: W-well, when you put it like that... All right, all right. I'll let your mother know.
Kana: Yaaay!
Hisame: *sigh* Sometimes I'm not sure which one of us gives the orders around here... I wonder if Father felt the same way? Heh... I suppose I will have to ask him.

Hisame: Hey-ha! Ya! Hey-ha!
Kana: Can I watch you practice, Hisame?
Hisame: Of course, Kana. Hey-ha! Ya! Hey-ha!
Kana: Hisame? Sorry to be a pest. You're really good with a katana.
Hisame: I'm fair. I hope to get better.
Kana: Let's have a sword fight.
Hisame: What? But I'm in the middle of practice.
Kana: Aw, come on. Just for a little while? If you win, I'll leave you alone.
Hisame: All right. Just this once.
Kana: Yay! All right, let me get ready... This shouldn't take long...
Hisame: W-wait, Kana!
Kana: What? Why?
Hisame: You were getting ready to turn into a dragon, weren't you!
Kana: How else are we going to play dragons and knights?
Hisame: You said a sword fight.
Kana: You'll be fighting me with a sword. Just like in this storybook I saw yesterday. There was a picture of a dragon and a knight—but the knight was winning. Storybooks always show the knight beating the dragon. But I'm going to WIN my battle with you!
Hisame: I said I'd do one quick sword fight with you, Kana. Not...not... Not this dragon and knights game.
Kana: We'd just be playing, Hisame. I won't really hurt you.
Hisame: I'm not playing this game, Kana.
(Hisame leaves)
Kana: Hey! Don't just walk away!

B Support

Kana: I found you, Hisame! All right then, ready for our sword fight?
Hisame: I thought I made myself clear. I'm not playing your game. If we both have swords, yes. But I won't play out some scene you saw in a storybook. Dragons and knights, indeed. That is simply courting trouble.
Kana: But knights always beat dragons in stories. I want the story to go my way for once!
Hisame: But stories are only stories.
Kana: What?
Hisame: A story of a knight is one that leads him through ever increasing challenges. Until he faces his ultimate one—slaying a dragon. It's just how stories of knights go. It's not real—only a story of courage. You shouldn't take it personally.
Kana: What?! Easy for you to say. You're not a dragon.
Hisame: In any case, if you want to act out that scene from a storybook, I can't. I would never attack you with such zeal. Even that is only the stuff of stories. I'm a real person. So are you. End of story.
Kana: Wow, thanks for explaining all that for me, Hisame!
Hisame: You're...you're not disappointed?
Kana: You're just looking out for me. That's sort of neat.
Hisame: Er, really?
Kana: But now it's time for our sword fight.
Hisame: Wait, but I just explained—
Kana: Come on. I'll show you how the story really ends.
Hisame: But I don't want to. Besides, you're... you're going to go full dragon on me!
Kana: How else will I change the way things turn out?
Hisame: But I don't want to fight you, Kana. Not today.
Kana: OK, then next time. I'll give you a little more time to practice for our battle!

A Support

Kana: Time for our sword fight, Hisame!
Hisame: How many times do I have to say it? I won't fight you if you're in dragon form.
Kana: But it has to be you.
Hisame: Me? Why me?
Kana: Wait, didn't I explain that part?
Hisame: No. You said you saw some story in a book about a knight and a dragon. Which has made you unhinged. But why me? There are others here who might not refuse.
Kana: Because you look like the knight from the picture in my book.
Hisame: I do?
Kana: You look exactly as dashing as he does! So swingy with your blade!
Hisame: You...think I look dashing?
Kana: As much as he is, anyway. So it has to be me-dragon against you-knight! Now that you know everything, you've got to agree to do it.
Hisame: Me...dashing? All right then, Kana. I'll give you your sword fight.
Kana: Yay!
Hisame: But you have to use a katana too. You can't turn into a dragon.
Kana: I have to! I want to prove that the story can end with the dragon winning.
Hisame: I will show you a different story. Knight versus knight. That story has a bitter end too. Someone always loses.
Kana: Well, it's a start.
Hisame: We will use special blades used in practice. No one gets hurt.
Kana: OK! No one gets hurt.
Hisame: Now this isn't a trick, right? You're not going to turn into a dragon?
Kana: No, not this time. It's nice just to play a game with you instead of arguing.
Hisame: Agreed. Let's go find those practice blades, Kana.
Kana: Right behind you, Hisame!

S Support

Kana: Thanks for that sword fight the other day, Hisame.
Hisame: It was fun, wasn't it? More fun than practice normally is.
Kana: I wanted to show you that storybook I keep mentioning. See, look!
Hisame: Ah, the picture of the knight slaying the dragon that's got you so upset...
Kana: See? That's you! And that's me!
Hisame: Didn't you say I looked like him? I'm...not half as dashing as he is.
Kana: You're twice as dashing, Hisame! No! Five hundred times more! Still, it makes me sad looking at pictures like this. The knight ALWAYS wins.
Hisame: I think I finally understand. I feel...less than I am, looking at that knight. But, Kana! Look! There's another role in this picture! On the side!
Kana: Where? Oh, you mean that girl stuck in the tower.
Hisame: Yes! The princess who waits to be rescued by her knight! You're a princess, Kana. Why not think of yourself as her—not the dragon?
Kana: Are you crazy? Being a dragon is great! Who'd want to be trapped in a tower?
Hisame: Ha! I see what you mean.
Kana: Then again, the princess gets to live happily ever after with her knight.
Hisame: That's how the story in this book ends anyway. Hmm.
Kana: But what if the dragon was the one trying to save the girl from the tower?
Hisame: And the knight was evil...?
Kana: And it's a boy in the tower! Then I could come and save you! Happy ending!
Hisame: Wh-whoa, I didn't imagine it turning out that way.
Kana: Don't you like that ending?
Hisame: I...I... That is... That ending is amazing. How'd you even think of that?
Kana: I don't know. I just did! It was such a sad ending the way it was. I mean, dragons have to win some of the time—somehow.
Hisame: And you save me... I didn't see that coming.
Kana: So, you liked it? I'm glad! I didn't think you would!
Hisame: I guess your father would like it too, Corrin also being a dragon.
Kana: Should I, uh, tell you more stories my way?
Hisame: I think I'll savor that ending today. But from now on, let's not bother with the swordplay.
Kana: Then what will we do?
Hisame: More stories. I'll just sit and listen. Better yet, maybe I'll write them all down.
Kana: And we can make our own book? That could take the rest of our lives! But I'm up for it if you are.
Hisame: I'll bring the quill and paper, Kana. Now this IS a happy ending.

Shigure: Where did all this rain come from...? Ah! A gazebo! Finally! Sweet relief.
Hisame: Greetings, Shigure. Seeking cover from the rain?
Shigure: Oh! I didn't see you there, Hisame. Yes, I am. And yourself?
Hisame: Not in so many words. I come here on rainy days to enjoy a cup of tea. It's quite soothing, watching the plant life dance in the rain.
Shigure: I see. That's very...Hisame of you. *chuckle*
Hisame: Would you like some tea as well? I have an extra cup.
Shigure: May I?
Hisame: Of course. Here you are.
Shigure: Thank you! *sip* *sigh* Warm tea is so relaxing. It's like drinking a loved one's embrace.
Hisame: Haha. That's a funny way of putting it. But I suppose you're not wrong.
Shigure: It is. By the way, what's that you're holding?
Hisame: Hm? Oh, it is a plate of pickles I made. They just finished brining this morning.
Shigure: You made them yourself? I didn't know you could do that.
Hisame: Oh, yes. They are my favorite snack. I've been making them for a long time. Would you like to try one?
Shigure: I would! I haven't tried this kind of pickle before. *munch munch* Oh! This is so good!
Hisame: You really think so? Thank you! I appreciate the compliment.
Shigure: No, no, no. Thank YOU! Ah...this has turned out to be a pleasant afternoon, hasn't it? May I impose on you again the next time it rains?
Hisame: Yes, of course. I would be delighted if you did.

Shigure: Rain again, huh? I wonder if Hisame will be at the gazebo again…
Hisame: Shigure! I'm glad to see you here.
Shigure: And I'm glad to see you. Mind if I intrude for a moment?
Hisame: Not at all. Please, join me. I thought I might see you today, so I made a few different kinds of pickles this time.
Shigure: You did? That's very kind of you. And a bit of a nice coincidence. I brought some rare tea leaves I got at the market the other day. I thought it would be nice to share them with you.
Hisame: Splendid. This is turning out to be quite the tea party, isn't it?
Shigure: Haha. I suppose so. But it's nice. We don't get too many moments like this. War has a way of taking such things away from you, doesn't it? Heh. It feels rather silly to say that out loud. I imagine it goes without saying.
Hisame: Maybe so, but you're right. It does have a way of taking such things away from us. Which is precisely why we should treasure them all the more. Listen to the rain... Its sound cleanses the mind, even as its touch cleanses the body. I never feel more refreshed than after a long, quiet day of rain spent in recollection.
Shigure: You're feeling poetic today, Hisame.
Hisame: Er...I apologize. I did not mean to sound so pompous.
Shigure: Not at all. I think what you said was beautiful. By the way, the pickles you brought are lovely. Such vibrant colors. What kinds of vegetables did you use?
Hisame: Oh, nothing too remarkable. There's daikon, and cabbage, and eggplant. The colors were mostly added. The eggplant, for example, is dyed.
Shigure: Haha. It seems picklemaking is a complex business.
Hisame: Mm. By the way, your tea goes very well with these. The perfect level of bitterness.
Shigure: I'm glad. So...shall we watch the rain?
Hisame: We shall.

Shigure: What a beautiful day. I wonder what the gazebo looks like when the sun is out... I guess I'll find out soon enough!
Hisame: Shigure! Hail!
Shigure: Hisame? What are you doing here?
Hisame: Haha. You sound almost displeased. I am just relaxing. This has become one of my favorite spots. I come here even when it's sunny now. Would you like to relax for a while with me? I brought some tea and pickles today, too.
Shigure: Oh? Thank you. I would be happy to take advantage of your kindness! Haha. Mm. This place does calm the mind, doesn't it?
Hisame: It does. I've been thinking a lot about why that might be lately. I think...it is because it represents to us the world we wish to build with this war. A glimpse of the future we hope will come, when all this fighting is done. That is what gives us peace of mind. That such a place can exist at all... That our dreams are within reach.
Shigure: I believe you are exactly right. This is our little grove of heaven. If only we could share this bliss with all the world.
Hisame: Yes...but perhaps these are only idle fancies. Would the world even want this? One man's heaven is another's torment. Mere peace will have to do. ...Shigure. We must end this war. Soon.
Shigure: Yes.
Hisame: Heh. But we may have become too serious today, no? Let us return to our leisure and our tea.
Shigure: Of course. Thank you, Hisame. I am glad you are my friend.
Hisame: And I am glad you are mine. Let us forge a new world together.
Shigure: A new peace, brother.
Hisame: Very good. Yes, then. A new peace. The world will see to itself. Now, enough of this talk. We will have tomorrow to speak of war and peace. But to enjoy this sun and this good wind, we were given today.

Hisame: Hmm... I wonder where Shigure went? I doubt he would be out here in the hills and fields. But I couldn't find him at camp either.
Shigure: *singing*
Hisame: Is that him in the distance? I wonder why he's sitting out there on that tree stump? And who are all those peop— WHAT?! Those aren't people... No, those are forest animals! There are rabbits, squirrels...even bears? And they're all sitting in a circle like a bunch of schoolkids. I've never seen anything like this...
Shigure: I think that's enough for one day. Did you all enjoy it?
Hisame: Is he trying to talk to them?
Shigure: Ah! Who's there?! Oh no! Come back!
Hisame: Ah! I made the animals run away... Sorry about that, Shigure.
Shigure: They were just startled, Hisame. Frankly, I was too! But don't worry about it. They can't help being a little shy. So tell me, what are you doing all the way out here?
Hisame: I was looking for you, actually. Even though we're siblings, you and I never got to know each other. Maybe we could spend some time together.
Shigure: O-oh, I see... I don't know what to say. I'm really not the most interesting person around... You might have a better time talking with someone more outgoing.
Hisame: I know that isn't true.
Shigure: Please, you shouldn't feel obligated to be my friend just because we're related. Honestly, I'm not in the most social mood right now. Please, excuse me...

Shigure: Hisame, what are you doing out here?! Ah! No! Don't go!
Hisame: A-ack! Wow, they're running away at full speed. I didn't mean to frighten them... Sorry about that, Shigure.
Shigure: N-no, don't worry about it. They aren't used to other people being around here. It's easy to startle them.
Hisame: Oh... It's amazing how you managed to tame all these wild animals. We may have the same parents, but I could never do what you do.
Shigure: Why were you looking for me again? Did you need something?
Hisame: Yes. I still want to know you better. We're siblings, but it feels almost like you and I are strangers. It makes me feel kind of lonely...
Shigure: I see... Listen, I'm sorry for being cold the other day. The truth is, it makes me happy that you care so much. I'm your brother, and I don't want to let you down.
Hisame: Really? Then it's OK if I stay here with you for a little while? Can you get those animals to come back?
Shigure: Honestly, I don't think they would be comfortable around you.
Hisame: Oh, they won't? But they seem so fond of you... Maybe if I put in a lot of effort, they would want to be my friends too. Is there any way to win them over?
Shigure: Hmm... I'm not sure if this will help, but... Animals are highly attuned to the feelings of people around them. Most likely, they detected something in you that drove them off.
Hisame: But why would I be angry at a bunch of cute animals?
Shigure: They can sense what you were thinking. Were you sizing them up to figure out which one might make a tasty dinner? Even just for a moment?
Hisame: Shigure, are you trying to tease me?
Shigure: I'm sorry, of course not. That's just the biggest reason I could think of for them to run away. I appreciate how sincere you are about befriending them. I'll try to think of what can be done to make them feel safe around you. There has to be a way to help out my kindhearted brother.
Hisame: I sure hope so!

A Support

Hisame: Um, Shigure...
Shigure: What's wrong, Hisame? You look upset.
Hisame: Well... I've just been thinking about those animals from before...
Shigure: Oh? Did you want to go pay them a visit? I was just about to head in that direction if you want to come along. Are you ready to prove that you don't mean them any harm?
Hisame: About that... I actually was pretty upset when I saw them that day.
Shigure: What do you mean?
Hisame: I couldn't help but feel envious of their relationship with you. You seemed so happy to be with them but didn't care about spending time with me. It was frustrating. In the moment, I just wanted them to vanish. That's why they all scurried away. They thought I was their enemy. I feel like a terrible person...
Shigure: Hisame, I'm glad you thought about this and talked to me.
Hisame: The point is, there is no reason for me to go back out there. I don't want to bother them ever again.
Shigure: Don't say that! You should absolutely go back. By opening up, you've changed, and the animals will be able to tell. I think they'll be more welcoming.
Hisame: I'm not sure...
Shigure: Well I am. You didn't have to say that you were feeling jealous. But you did anyway. That tells me that you've got a good soul. They'll be able to see that, too. Look! There's a rabbit hopping this way.
Hisame: Wah! What do I do?
Shigure: Just calm down... Relax, and take a breath. Quiet your mind and be peaceful... Just think about how you want to be friends with the furry critter.
Hisame: O-OK, I'll try... Shigure, he let me pet him! He's not trying to run away. What a sweet little guy...
Shigure: See? I told you everything would be fine.
Hisame: Yes, thank goodness...!
Shigure: Now you can meet all of the other animals! I think you will get along with everyone. Let's wander to the clearing in the woods. I bet your friends will be waiting there.
Hisame: Thank you, Shigure...

Sophie: Hisame! Just the man I wanted to see!
Hisame: You were looking for me?
Sophie: I'm REALLY in a bind right now. See, Daddy and I are supposed to have dinner with some Hoshidans. You have to figure there'll be a lot of Hoshidan food served there, right?
Hisame: And what, pray tell, is wrong with Hoshidan food?
Sophie: N-nothing! It's not the food I'm worried about... It's the utensils! You're supposed to eat it with these things called chopsticks, right? I don't know where to start!
Hisame: You can't use chopsticks?
Sophie: No! The last time I tried, I almost burned the house down! If I don't have them under control by the dinner, it'll be a disaster!
Hisame: I see your point. But chopsticks aren't something one can master overnight.
Sophie: I know—I've been trying for a week! But I had this great idea. I'll get YOU to teach me!
Hisame: Huh?
Sophie: You eat Hoshidan food all the time, so you must be a pro at using chopsticks, right? There's gotta be a trick or two you can show me!
Hisame: A "trick"? Do you think there's something to it beyond holding them correctly?
Sophie: Obviously! If that's all there was, I'd have it down by now! So be my tutor. Teach me all the secrets to stress-free eating!
Hisame: When you put it that way, I can't in good conscience refuse... *sigh* Very well. I can spare a little bit of time for some lessons.

Sophie: Ugh... I'm making a total fool of myself... Why can't I get the hang of this?
Hisame: You're holding them properly. You just have to practice control now.
Sophie: Really?! So I AM making progress! I remember the other day you sighed every time I tried to pick them up!
Hisame: Heh...that's your true strength, Sophie. Your willingness to dust yourself off and try again, no matter how many times you fail.
Sophie: Y-you think so?
Hisame: Yes. It takes real inner strength to continue in the face of adversity.
Sophie: Thanks, Hisame. I still have plenty of time before the dinner to figure this chopsticks thing out!
Hisame: That's the spirit. Let's keep at it until you're completely confident.
Sophie: OK! I KNOW I'll get the bean this time... Hah!
Hisame: Oof!
Sophie: Eep! Did I get you in the face again?! I'm so sorry—really I am...!
Hisame: You got me in the eye this time! I'm taking more injuries teaching you to eat than I do on the battlefield... Let's start smaller. Try NOT to send the bean flying this time. Can you do that?
Sophie: I'm on it!

Sophie: Now, don't get mad yet, but... They actually had forks and knives set at the dinner table.
Hisame: What? They...hmm. I suppose that's not so unusual, given that they invited Nohrians to the dinner. I should have anticipated this...
Sophie: But I didn't use them! I deliberately left them untouched so I could show off my new chopstick skills!
Hisame: You didn't...! A-and how did it go? Please don't tell me you sent food flying every which way...
Sophie: Of course not! I was a natural—I didn't mess up even once!
Hisame: Whew...!
Sophie: Daddy and the Hoshidans noticed, too! They all knew how bad I was before at it. Everyone said it was wonderful how I forced myself to improve like that! But it was really you who forced me. So thanks, Hisame!
Hisame: I had less to do with it than you say. You did well, Sophie.
Sophie: Heehee! Well, thanks at least for being patient with me. You were a great chopsticks tutor!

Sophie: Once is hardly enough! I need to keep doing it until it sinks in! It was really good of you to stick with me for all those lessons. No one has ever been so patient at practicing stuff with me before.
Hisame: You were so earnest when you came to me for help that I couldn't refuse. Far be it from me to reject one so desperate as you seemed to be.
Sophie: Heehee...you're really sweet, Hisame.
Hisame: No I'm not.
Sophie: Yeah, you are. I noticed a while ago...when you were helping me with the chopsticks. That's when...um... That's when I fell in love with you.
Hisame: You what?!
Sophie: I...I want to be your girlfriend. I was looking for you so I could tell you that.
Hisame: Oh...well, message received. I suppose I should return the favor and tell you how I feel as well.
Sophie: *gulp*
Hisame: Ahaha...it's nothing to be nervous about.
Sophie: How should I know?! If you step back, I'm hardly a catch. So I'm not holding out much hope here...
Hisame: I wouldn't say that. True, you're somewhat high maintenance. But your perseverance in the face of all your blunders is commendable. You have deep reserves of strength to pick yourself up whenever you stumble. It seems natural to me that I should have fallen in love with such a woman...
Sophie: I-in love? With ME?! Th-that means...

Hisame: I DO speak this way to everyone else. You are no exception, I assure you.
Kiragi: Oh. Really? I guess that's OK, then. I just want us to be good friends. You know, like our dads are!
Hisame: Like Lord Takumi and my father? Hm. I am not so sure that would be desirable.
Kiragi: What? Do you have something against me?
Hisame: No, not at all. Rather, I believe that my father is too casual with your own. My father is retainer to Lord Takumi. He should treat his lord as a superior. However, my father does not understand this. He is too easy with his betters. His manner of speaking with nobles is too coarse. Too familiar.
Kiragi: What? No way! I think it's great that our dads talk to each other like that! It just shows how deep their friendship really runs!
Hisame: Would you say so? I think my father would do much better to recognize the gulf between their positions.
Kiragi: Like how?
Hisame: For one thing, my father eats next to Lord Takumi at every meal. And he has the nerve to demand seconds, or even THIRDS, in front of him.
Kiragi: That sounds fine to me!

Kiragi: There's nothing wrong with that either!
Hisame: I disagree. It is not proper. If one eats with one's lord, it is one's duty to taste the meal for poison beforehand. Then, after the lord has finished eating, his retainer should eat quickly and out of sight. And bathing with one's lord is out of the question entirely! Not even to mention having one's back scrubbed by said lord! One should stand guard—with one's weapon—while the lord is defenseless.
Kiragi: So...is that how you'd like our relationship to be?
Hisame: Yes, I would find it preferable. Do you object?
Kiragi: Ugh! You're so thick sometimes, Hisame! You don't get it at all! What kind of friendship would that be?!
(Kiragi leaves)
Hisame: Friendship? Who said anything about friendship?

B Support

Hisame: Kiragi, do you have a moment?
Kiragi: Hisame?
Hisame: I would like to apologize for the other day. I did not wish to hurt your feelings.
Kiragi: Don't mention it. I feel like I should apologize myself for pushing my views on you. But, if you can, I WOULD prefer it if you didn't treat me like I was your liege. Our parents' lord-retainer relationship doesn't need to dictate our own.
Hisame: Hm.
Kiragi: O-of course, you can act however you like. I just mean...it would be nice—er— Never mind. Forget it.
Hisame: No, it is all right. You are saying you wish us to be friends, correct? Then I would like to respond in kind: Yes. I accept your friendship...buddy! Hm. That word feels strange on my tongue. It feels...tingly. Perhaps I will need some time to get used to it.
Kiragi: Haha! Thanks, Hisame!
Hisame: I do not require thanks, but you are very welcome. I believe it would be good to bridge the gap between us. In fact, I was just now asking my father for his advice on such things.
Kiragi: Oh, really?
Hisame: Yes. I asked him what he does when he and Lord Takumi have a disagreement. He says that the two of them play shogi together.
Kiragi: Shogi? You mean the board game?
Hisame: Yes. It seems that Lord Takumi is quite the talented shogi player. My father says that they used to play together frequently. So I thought that perhaps we should play a game ourselves?
Kiragi: What? Me? Play shogi? I don't know. I'm not so good at strategy games. But...I guess if our dads do it, there must be something to it. All right, sure. I'm in!
Hisame: Thank you very much. I've actually already set up a board over here. Please, after you.
Kiragi: Heh. OK, then. Let's do this!

A Support

Kiragi: Hey, Hisame! I had so much fun playing shogi the other day! Thanks a ton for suggesting it! It was a great idea!
Hisame: Haha. Yes, it was quite amusing. Just thinking about it now makes me laugh.
Kiragi: I almost gave up in the middle there, when you got serious. I was so frustrated, I might have really quit if I hadn't had that epiphany!
Hisame: Heh. Yes, and you were absolutely right about that too. It was quite funny. My disposition really IS more in line with Lord Takumi's.
Kiragi: And you were just as right! I'm way more like Hinata! Ha ha! It's like we each took after the other's father. How's that for weird?
Hisame: Yes, it is curious... But I am glad you decided to stay in the game. You were quite tenacious at the end.
Kiragi: Yep! Once I started thinking of it like a hunt, I began to really get it. It's not like any old board game. It requires the patience and skills of a true huntsman! I bet it's good practice for anyone who has to command forces in battle, too.
Hisame: I agree. I believe it may even be useful for duelists as well. After all, reading your opponent's intentions is a key skill for both.
Kiragi: *chuckle*
Hisame: Hm? What is so amusing?
Kiragi: Think we've bridged the gap between us yet? Are we real friends now?
Hisame: Hmm. I wonder...could it be true? Perhaps it would not be as wise as I had thought...
Kiragi: Heehee. You don't need to be so shy about it! Drop it with the loyal-vassal junk, OK? If our dads can be as good of friends as they are, we can be too!
Hisame: Heh. OK. You might be right. Perhaps there are exceptions to every rule.
Kiragi: Absolutely! All right, now we just need to try really hard so we can be the best friends ever!
Hisame: Haha. I don't think it works like that. You cannot force such friendships. But...I do believe we could grow into a friendship like that, given time. I suppose we'll just have to see what happens, Kiragi.
Kiragi: All right. Let's see where the world takes us, Hisame!

Hisame: Asugi! A word.
Asugi: Well if it isn't Gramps. What's on your mind, old-timer?
Hisame: G-Gramps?! I'm younger than you are, you wastrel! Bah. Never mind. Why have you not been attending the Tactics Brunch?
Asugi: Huh? Oh, that thing? It's not mandatory, right? Figured it wasn't worth going. I'm no officer. I carry out orders, not give them.
Hisame: Don't be a fool. Tactical understanding is vital to every soldier's training. And if you don't discuss battle plans with others, you'll never hone your thinking. Also we serve éclairs. You are fond of such treats, yes?
Asugi: R-really?! Nobody told me that...
Hisame: So. Do you have any reason for absenting yourself?
Asugi: Not really, no. Just figured I had nothing to contribute. We've got enough talented tacticians. Too many cooks'll spoil the cake.
Hisame: I disagree. If you were to participate, I believe we would all benefit greatly. New perspectives are always valuable. Particularly from highly skilled parties. However, if you do decide to come, I implore you to take it seriously. This devil-may-care attitude of yours will not do.
Asugi: Aw. I'm highly skilled? Thanks! I appreciate the compliment. I guess I'll think about it. Later!
(Asugi leaves)
Hisame: Tsk. That man could use a few lessons in etiquette.

(screen shifts back)
Hoshidan: I see. But it seems risky. Do we have any other options? Anyone?

(Hoshidan leaves)
Hisame: Asugi!
Asugi: I forget something, Gramps? Weren't you in the middle of talking to someone?
Hisame: Why did you leave right in the middle of a discussion?
Asugi: Oh. That's what you ran all the way out here for? I just remembered that my cinnamon rolls should be about done!
Hisame: Huh?
Asugi: I put some in the oven right before the meeting. Don't want 'em to burn, right? Oh man, I can't wait for that frosting. Stuff melts in your mouth!
Hisame: Y-you left for THAT?! How ridiculous...
Asugi: Haha. Don't have a stroke, Gramps. Much as I'd like to believe otherwise, I'm sure everyone will be all right without me. Now, I gotta go. Those cinnamon rolls ain't gonna eat themselves.
(Asugi leaves)
Hisame: Hey! Stop! I'm not done with you!
(fade to black)
Hisame: Where did that dastard run off to? He wasn't even in the kitchen... ... I-is that Asugi? In the library? What is he reading...? "The Subjugation of the Peoples of the Upper Southlands: A Tactical Overview" What a mouthful. So, then...is he studying warfare all by himself? But...why?

A Support

Hisame: Asugi! I must speak to you about something. Regarding your attendance—or, rather, lack thereof—at the Tactics Brunch.
Asugi: Gramps! Lemme guess. You saw me ducking out to the library, right? Took you long enough. I thought you'd never catch on.
Hisame: So you know why I'm here, then. Well? What do you have to say?
Asugi: Yes, I've been studying up on the finer points of tactics and strategy. And no, I have no intention of attending more of those brunches. Tasty as those cream-filled éclairs may be.
Hisame: But why? You could get far more out of these studies if you came.
Asugi: Just a rule of thumb.
Hisame: What kind of rule, exactly?
Asugi: Ninja work best alone or in small groups. There's a reason for that. The more conspicuous they are, the less suited they'll be to their assignments. Assassination, intelligence gathering...that stuff requires anonymity, stealth. Can't go flashing our mugs around everywhere, you know?
Hisame: I see your point. However, you are not exactly an unknown element of the army.
Asugi: Sure. Those who serve the royals directly rarely escape notice entirely. But there's something else to consider. A ninja walks with death. The earliest part of our training conditions us to accept this fact. And as such, we take pains to ensure that when it comes...nothing is disturbed.
Hisame: What? And how is this related to our meetings?
Asugi: One of the precautions we take is to avoid forming too many personal bonds. Meeting with so many people every week will, obviously, make that difficult. Don't be upset. It's a part of our code. Has been for generations.
Hisame: Oh, I'm not upset. I understand very well. You are a fool.
Asugi: Oh? How's that?
Hisame: That outlook may be appropriate for a truly clandestine asset. But you fight on the battlefield with us, do you not?
Asugi: And?
Hisame: Have you never wondered why warriors do not follow a similar code? It is because camaraderie is an extremely important part of any military unit.
Asugi: So what's your point?
Hisame: Think for 10 seconds. When we fight, we often do so side by side, correct? And when we do, our effectiveness in battle increases. This is not an accident. It is a direct consequence of our mutual bond. So too with the others. If you learn nothing else of tactics, learn this: no warrior is an island. We fight and die, not just for a cause, but for each other. Never forget that.
Asugi: Hmph... Maybe you're right. Heh. You're not as aloof as you look, are you, Gramps?
Hisame: And you are not as shiftless as you appear, either. Perhaps we have learned something here about judging others' appearances.
Asugi: Don't be ridiculous. But...I will try to be a more integrated part of the army from now on. Sorry for the grandstanding. I hadn't considered the situation carefully, I guess.
Hisame: No need to apologize. Your willingness to sacrifice yourself is admirable. Under normal circumstances, it would not be misguided. Even so...I must admit my wish to dissuade you was not entirely impersonal. I want you to know that I am always here for you...my friend.
Asugi: I know. And I'll always have your back as well, Hisame.

Selkie: Sorry if I scared you! But really, what's in the pot? A bunch of veggies?
Hisame: I said it was nothing.
Selkie: But I saw a bunch of veggies! And it smells totally weird. What are you doing?
Hisame: Ugh. Fine. I'm making some pickles. And no, you can't have any.
Selkie: Well, they smell terrible! And why would you eat vegetables, anyway? Meat is so much yummier!
Hisame: I beg your pardon! My pickles are exquisite. You'd be lucky to even taste one.

Selkie: You mean those stinky veggies?
Hisame: No! Well, I mean, technically, yes... The point is, they're not stinky. They're gourmet. And I've brought something for you to sample today.
Selkie: What is this? It looks like meat.
Hisame: Yes. It's buffalo. Please, try it.
Selkie: Mmm! It's delicious! How did you make it so tender?
Hisame: Oh ho! I pickled it.
Selkie: *ptooie* What?! Really? Are you trying to poison me or something?
Hisame: Of course not! My traditional pickle brine is perfectly healthy. And it's the reason that meat is so tender and flavorful.
Selkie: Well...it is delicious. I suppose I could try another bite...
Hisame: Certainly. But first, try this pickled cucumber.
Selkie: If you insist... Oh, it's so crunchy! And juicy! I love it!
Hisame: Well, I'm glad you like it. So you see...my pickles are not to be trifled with or disparaged.
Selkie: Yep! Count me in on the pickle party! Pickles for life!
Hisame: Yes. Pickles for life.

Selkie: Blech! This pickle is terrible! How come all the ones I make turn out like this?
Hisame: Take a deep breath, Selkie. Let's talk through this.
Selkie: But...but... What am I doing wrong?!
Hisame: It's not any one thing, Selkie. Your whole approach to pickling needs work. First of all, one does not simply become a pickle master overnight. It takes years of careful practice, attention to detail—
Selkie: But I want to eat delicious pickles NOW!
Hisame: Please, get ahold of yourself! You'll get the hang of this. And in the meantime, I will share my pickles with you.
Selkie: Wait, really?
Hisame: Of course. One of the great things about pickles is how long they keep. So, naturally, I maintain at least one year's supply at all times in my tent.
Selkie: That's amazing! Do you have any more of that buffalo from the other day?
Hisame: Actually, I do. Although pickled meat doesn't keep quite as well as veggies.
Selkie: So what? Why keep this when you can just eat it right away? Gimme! *nom* *nom* *nom*
Hisame: How can you enjoy the depth of flavor when you eat that quickly? Are you even chewing?
Selkie: Ahh! That hit the spot! Got any more?
Hisame: So, this is my life now. Pickle chef to a ravenous she-fox. It could be worse.
Selkie: What are you mumbling about? And where are all the pickles you promised me?
Hisame: It's nothing, Selkie. Please, come and help yourself to any of the pickles in my tent. I will simply have to ramp up production to keep up with demand...
Selkie: Aw, you're the best, Hisame. Thanks! Wait a second... You'll keep teaching me how to make my own, right? Because I don't want to eat ALL of your pickles. What kind of a pickle pal would do that to another pickle pal?
Hisame: Of course. You'll be a fine pickle pal in time.

Selkie: You bet! It's just a little thank-you for introducing me to the world of pickles.
Hisame: Well...thank you very much. Um, not to look a gift horse in the mouth, but why a rice cracker?
Selkie: What do you mean "horse"? It's a cracker, dum-dum! Anyway, I just thought that it would pair well with your signature pickle brine.
Hisame: Well, that's very thoughtful. Thank you. Wait, where exactly did you get this cracker, anyway?
Selkie: Oh, it was just a couple of towns away. No biggie.
Hisame: Selkie, I happen to know that this type of cracker is not available within 200 miles!
Selkie: I know. But I thought you would really like it! Are you mad?
Hisame: Mad? No, I'm just... You didn't have to do that. But it means a lot to me that you did.
Selkie: Oh, good! See, I did it because I really like you. Actually, it's more like I love you. What do you think about that?
Hisame: Gee, you really know how to put a guy on the spot, Selkie... But the truth is...I like you, too. Maybe I even love you. But this is a little bit fast for me. It seems like everyone is getting married...
Selkie: Well, that's silly. Let's just start by being boyfriend and girlfriend. Ready? Go!
Hisame: Wow, it's that easy, huh? Well, let's go with it. I'm happy to have you as my girlfriend, Selkie!

Hisame: This shed is almost done! Just a few more shelves to organize...
Caeldori: Hisame...I wanted to apologize after our fight the other day... You were right. I was too forceful with my opinions.
Hisame: ...And we're back to our father issues again, huh? Seriously, though...I'm sorry too.
Caeldori: I don't understand. You didn't do anything wrong.
Hisame: I'm apologizing because I wasn't completely honest with you. The truth is...all that anger I have with my father only stems from jealousy.
Caeldori: Jealousy? Wha?!
Hisame: My father doesn't have a care in the world. He never worries about...anything. ...And people love him for it! The truth is I wish I could be more like that sometimes. Instead, I'm so uptight, I keep everything bottled up inside.
Caeldori: That sounds exhausting... I'm sorry. I didn't mean to pick at an old wound.
Hisame: No, it's OK. I have to face reality sometime. I should at least be honest with myself.
Caeldori: I hope it helped...

S Support

Hisame: Hey, Caeldori! I haven't seen you much since we finished remodeling that shed.
Caeldori: I know. Everyone keeps telling me how wonderful it looks now... They all swear up and down they'll never let it get that disorganized again.
Hisame: I hear they've started calling us the Dedicated Duo.
Caeldori: Heehee... Well, if we're going to be famous, then we need a better name.
Hisame: Um... Do you have a moment? I'd like to speak with you about something.
Caeldori: That sounds serious.
Hisame: Well, that's just it... I'm sure you've noticed that we're both pretty serious people... ...And we can be VERY candid with each other, which I find refreshing. Our two heads are vastly superior to one. I can't imagine living my life without you!
Caeldori: Hisame...!
Hisame: Even when you were covered in cobwebs and dirt from cleaning that shed... you still managed to look radiant. Brains and beauty!
Caeldori: I have really enjoyed having someone I can be so honest with, Hisame...
Hisame: You ARE honest, aren't you? I like that— even if it leads to the occasional fight.
Caeldori: That's the thing! I worry that we're so tightly wound, we'll wear each other out! Do you really think we'll be a good match?
Hisame: I do! We just have to remember to live a little more. I promise to help you with that.
Caeldori: I'll help you too! If we both put our minds to it, I know we can make it happen! We'll be the most successful, productive couple this army has ever seen!
Hisame: I like the sound of that!

Rhajat: Grrr... WHY ISN'T THIS WORKING?!
Hisame: Rhajat? What's wrong?
Rhajat: Ugh, don't worry about it.
Hisame: Are you certain? Perhaps I can help.
Rhajat: *sigh* I don't see how you could possibly help...
Hisame: Suit yourself...but I think you'll find that even talking about it could be beneficial.
Rhajat: Fine, whatever. It's just that my curses haven't been working out lately. Some of my spells have been doing the opposite of what they're supposed to do. Can you imagine that? You curse someone and end up making them happier than ever? Argh!
Hisame: Well, I am an amateur when it comes to magic, so I'm afraid I can't help you there.
Rhajat: I told you!
Hisame: But I do believe I could help ease some of your frustration.
Rhajat: How, exactly? Don't tell me you're going to put a spell on me.
Hisame: Oh ho! Of course not. Just come with me and you'll find out...
Rhajat: Well, that's pretty creepy. I'm in.
(fade to black)
Rhajat: What is all of this?
Hisame: I've prepared some special tea and pickled vegetables for you. Enjoy!
Rhajat: I really don't see how this is going to help me at all... But...free food is free food. *slurp* *crunch* *crunch*
Hisame: Well?
Rhajat: What sorcery is this? Did you enchant the food? I'm feeling incredibly satisfied and relaxed.
Hisame: Of course! Tea is known to calm the mind.
Rhajat: Well, I don't know if this is going to make my spells effective again... but at least it was delicious. Thanks, Hisame.
Hisame: You're welcome.

Rhajat: *sigh*
Hisame: Rhajat? You look frustrated again. Are you still having trouble with your spells?
Rhajat: Actually, no. Your tea calmed me down, and I realized I was making a mistake. So my spells, curses, and hexes are just fine, thank you.
Hisame: That's wonderful. But then...what's the problem?
Rhajat: I lost one of my favorite charms... I can't find it anywhere. It's one that brings bad luck to everyone but me...so it's really important!
Hisame: Oh. Well, that sounds like...bad luck. Are you sure it hasn't backfired? Oh ho! Pardon the levity. Anyway, I have just the thing.
Rhajat: It's tea, isn't it?
Hisame: Yep!
(fade to black)
Rhajat: Unbelievable. I remember exactly where I left it. Are you sure that your tea isn't magical in some way?
Hisame: It's perfectly ordinary. It's just easier to concentrate when you're relaxed, don't you think?
Rhajat: So you must never lose anything or have any problems at all, huh?
Hisame: Well...everyone has some problems. But I do like to think of myself as being relaxed most of the time. I was also lucky to grow up with a high-strung father. He taught me exactly what not to do!
Rhajat: Heh. Nice. You know, there's something about you. I haven't figured you out yet...
Hisame: What do you mean?
Rhajat: I mean you're more complex than most of the creeps around here. Take it as a compliment.
Hisame: Well, all right then.

Hisame: Rhajat! You're having tea without me?
Rhajat: You caught me. I just thought I should learn to brew my own, in case you're not around.
Hisame: Well, I'm glad you're a total convert! But...does this mean we won't be having tea together anymore?
Rhajat: No, you're still of use to me. I can't make tea as good as yours. Plus, I want to learn all your other relaxation techniques.
Hisame: Other techniques? I'm afraid I don't know what you're talking about.
Rhajat: Oh, please. You're holding out on me. You're the most relaxed person I know! I want you to teach me everything. Muhahaha!
Hisame: Well... I'll do my best.
Rhajat: See that you do, Hisame...

Hisame: Ah, Rhajat! I've been looking for you.
Rhajat: What is it? Why are you all out of breath?
Hisame: I...uh... *ahem* Wo-would you like some tea?
Rhajat: No, thanks. I already had some this morning. I'm feeling as relaxed as can be.
Hisame: Oh, dang. I mean...great! I'm glad you're doing well.
Rhajat: What's with you, anyway? I've never seen you act like this before. Did someone else curse you? Just say the word, and I'll curse them back!
Hisame: Someone...else? I mean, no. Nobody has cursed me, as far as I know. I guess I just need to get on with it... *ahem* *cough* *cough*
Rhajat: Get on with...what?
Hisame: Hoo boy. This is definitely not relaxing. My heart is thumping and my hands are shaking...
Rhajat: Are you ill? I'll get the leeches...
Hisame: No! That's not it. I...I... I like you!
Rhajat: Oh?
Hisame: I never thought I'd just blurt it out like that... But I had to tell you. Every time we had tea together, I was desperately trying to calm myself down...
Rhajat: So THAT'S what was going on. Bwahaha! That's so...
Hisame: So...what? Pathetic? Embarrassing? What? You've got to tell me!
Rhajat: I was going to say cute.
Hisame: Oh, thank you!
Rhajat: No, thank you! I've been so relaxed and happy since we started sharing tea. My curses have been stronger than ever, and my mind is as sharp as a katana. In short, I'm deadlier than ever, and I owe it all to you, Hisame. I want to be with you forever.
Hisame: Huh. Somehow I'm not any calmer than I was before you told me that...

Percy: Hmm...I dunno. If I had one wish, I'd wanna be strong like Pop!
Hisame: See? Now there's a wish that's specific. You've got to give your star instructions. Wishing for "everyone in the whole world to be happy" might be a little vague.
Percy: OK! I've got it. I wish for everyone to be... healthy and safe!
Hisame: Wow! Did you see that?! A bunch of shooting stars just shot across the sky!
Percy: Whoa! That was amazing! Now my wish HAS to come true.

Hisame: I just heard about a huge battle where everyone escaped without a scratch. Arrows were changing direction midflight! The enemies freaked out and ran away! One guy was...uh...attacked by a bear, but a...bunny rescued him just in time!
Percy: WOW! My wish really DID come true!
Hisame: Well, it's about time you shared some of your good luck with the rest of us. Now, we'll never have to worry again!

Velouria: I lost my yellow rock somewhere over here. You haven't seen it, have you?
Hisame: A yellow stone, huh? Not ringing a bell.
Velouria: Ooooo...I'd love to find a bell. All right. I'll keep looking... Oh! I found it!
Hisame: Well, that was quick. You must be so... relieved.
Velouria: Yes... Thank you very much, Hisame.
Hisame: Now, I have to ask... What's so special about that rock?
Velouria: Well...you probably noticed how beautiful this translucent, yellow color is...
Hisame: Uh...let's go with "yes."
Velouria: But it's not the stone that's special... It's what's trapped inside! It's amazing!
Hisame: Huh?!
Velouria: Inside this stone is a spider about THIS big! It's so pretty.
Hisame: EEEK! WHA?! What would a giant spider be doing in there?
Velouria: I didn't think you'd be this excited! Would you like to pet him?
Hisame: N-n-n-n-n-n-no thank you! (Get a grip, Hisame. I gotta stay cool.) *ahem* So what you're telling me is the stone you discovered is an amber fossil.
Velouria: This stone has a name...? Of course! Any stone this beautiful should have a proper name. Even though you named it, I'm afraid I can't give it to you, Hisame...
Hisame: N-no... Of course not! I would have to decline anyway. I prefer my spiders a little smaller.
Velouria: Yes...he is rather large. I'll give it to Daddy. He'll be so happy.
Hisame: W-will he? Well, as long as you think so, that's probably OK.
Velouria: Heehee...

Hisame: Velouria, do you have a minute? There's something I'd like to ask you.
Velouria: Sure...
Hisame: Where did you find that amber fossil—you know, the one with the... spider? *shiver*
Velouria: Oh...the yellow one? Did you want one too?
Hisame: Actually, yes—preferably without the spider! It turns out, amber is pretty valuable. Who knew?
Velouria: Hmm...is it? I guess you don't see many bugs stuck in rocks like that.
Hisame: Right. Except the bug isn't the valuable part, but...never mind. Anyway, I need to find one, so could you be a big help and tell me where to look?
Velouria: Sure...as long as I can keep the ones with the bugs inside.
Hisame: We have a deal!
Velouria: OK, then... Follow me...
(Velouria leaves)
Hisame: Wow. Finding amber is harder than I thought. We've looked everywhere.
Velouria: Yeah... It's rare to find such a magnificent spider. Last time was pure luck.
Hisame: Well, thanks for trying anyway.
Velouria: Don't feel bad. I don't mind... Maybe this will cheer you up... I bet right now an unlucky bug is about to get trapped... Next time we look, we'll find him stuck inside a yellow stone!
Hisame: Umm...you do realize—for that to happen, it would take many, MANY years... I don't want you to get your hopes up.

A Support

Velouria: Hisame, are you still depressed about the amber fossils?
Hisame: I don't think I'll ever find one. I've searched every inch of that path!
Velouria: If you get one, what are you going to do with it?
Hisame: Well, my father broke his lucky token the other day. It kept him safe in battle.
Velouria: Oh, no! It belonged to your daddy?!
Hisame: Yeah. I wanted to find him a replacement. That amber you found was the perfect size. But, no luck. I haven't seen another one since.
Velouria: Hisame, you can't stop searching now! We have to get back out there and look again!
Hisame: Huh? What's with the change of heart? I've never seen you this...intense.
Velouria: Your story... It spoke to me... I love my daddy, and I would do anything for him. I won't stop until I've helped your daddy too... Come on! Hurry up!
Hisame: Velouria! You're pulling my arm out of its socket! Hold up!
(Velouria leaves)
Velouria: Here you go...
Hisame: Whew! Thank you so much! I can't believe our good luck! After days of searching and coming up short—today, we find one immediately!
Velouria: I could smell it—the amber, I mean. Sometimes, when I'm feeling...emotional, my sense of smell gets stronger. All of that love for Daddy...and, um, your feelings...maybe they combined.
Hisame: Your nose is seriously amazing, Velouria.
Velouria: Still, it's too bad... There's no bug inside this one. Are you sure it'll be OK?
Hisame: I'm positive.
Velouria: The next one I find with a giant spider in it... I'll save it for you.
Hisame: W-wow. That is really not necessary. It's a sweet thought—thank you—but... You should keep it for yourself. Really. I'm sure my father will like this one just fine.
Velouria: OK...if you say so. I'm so glad that I could help.

Hisame: Uh, OK. What've you got?
Velouria: Since we have the same tastes in treasures, I thought you'd like to see a few of mine... Here is a rusty hair clip...and this is some lint I found in my boot...
Hisame: Uh... That's OK. I don't need to hold that...
Velouria: I don't mind...really. Also, this is a poisonous scorpion...
Hisame: AAACCCKK! That's enough! Seriously, Velouria. That's enough.
Velouria: But we're not even halfway through...
Hisame: I think we are. I appreciate everything you've shown me, but I stop at scorpions.
Velouria: Oh, OK...
Hisame: ...Did you know your face lights up when you talk about this stuff? It's pretty cute.
Velouria: If you keep talking like that, you're going to make me blush...
Hisame: You already are. But...it's true. Watching you search for that amber was kind of...adorable.
Velouria: Hisame... Are you saying that you'd like to go treasure hunting with me again? Heehee! People might think we were a couple. Would you be OK with that?
Hisame: Velouria, I never thought I'd say this, but... yes! I'd love to be your treasure-hunting boyfriend, but what about you? Would you be embarrassed to be my girlfriend?
Velouria: *shrug* No, Hisame. I love you, so that would be fine with me...

Ophelia: Is that Hisame over there? What in all the heavens is he doing?!
Hisame: Good day, Ophelia.
Ophelia: What IS that you're doting upon?!
Hisame: Doting? Er, would you mind taking a step back? You're...a little close.
Ophelia: Infinite apologies. I was drawn to the extraordinary aura of THAT.
Hisame: This? My bonsai tree?
Ophelia: From what miniature pocket of existence did you pluck this tiny tree? Is there a whole forest of likewise infinitesimally smaller trees there?
Hisame: I...I think you've gotten the wrong idea. It's a normal tree, trained to be miniature. It takes many years to grow a bonsai. This bonsai was a gift from a pickling master I buy all my pickled foods from.
Ophelia: Amazing! And what a gift. A tree so tiny, yet greater than the most giant of pines! This tree is a tree that all other trees must aspire to become!
Hisame: Er, yes. I suppose. I'm surprised that you like it so much. Not everyone likes bonsais.
Ophelia: It has a radiance bright as the stars. How could I resist its divine power?
Hisame: Divine—
Ophelia: Power, yes! The power to win eyes! And hearts!
Hisame: Then it's yours.
Ophelia: Mine? This smallified wonder?!
Hisame: I'm sure you'll take even better care of it than I would. Besides, you clearly look like you're more than a little interested in it.
Ophelia: I didn't mean to let it show. But if you're sure...?
Hisame: I'm sure. Here—all yours.
Ophelia: Thank you, Hisame. Ah! Just touching it makes my inner power well to overflowing! I must return to my chamber and commune with its miniature gigantitude!
(Ophelia leaves)
Hisame: I don't understand half of what that Ophelia says... But she liked the bonsai. That's all that really matters.

Ophelia: Hisame!
Hisame: Why so flustered, Ophelia?
Ophelia: That Spiral Drastique you gave me the other day is in grave danger!
Hisame: The what now? Do you mean the bonsai tree?
Ophelia: The Spiral Drastique, yes! Its branches spiral toward the heavens in the patters of death and rebirth. I gave it a more fitting name. What do you think of it?
Hisame: It's a bit too colorful for my tastes. But tell me—what's happened to the bonsai?
Ophelia: After I put it in my room, its branches began to grow in weird directions. I've never cared for a bonsai, so I didn't know what to do. That is, short of surrounding it with magical gemstones—but that didn't help!
Hisame: Shall I prune the bonsai for you? Then you'll see how.
Ophelia: Yes, please. I've brought it with me.
Hisame: Ah, I see. It is getting unruly, isn't it? You need to consider the balance of the left and right branches. Prune as little as you can, with an eye for preserving the balance. If maintained properly, a bonsai can ward off disease.
Ophelia: Wow! Really?
Hisame: The fellow who gave it to me said so.
Ophelia: It's already looking much better, Hisame. The Spiral Drastique is already regaining its power! Oh! And that's that? You did so little. But it made such a huge difference! Thank you! Thank you! A million times over—thank you!
Hisame: Please, just one thanks will do. And don't grab my hands!
Ophelia: Ah, what? Oh, sorry! You don't like that. I forgot. If I have further trouble with it, can I come back for more help?
Hisame: Uh, yes. Certainly.
Ophelia: Then I'll be off! My eyes will patrol the balance of my bonsai like twin hawks of vengeance! Never again will the Spiral Drastique fall out of whack—not on my watch!
(Ophelia leaves)
Hisame: That Ophelia's heart in the right place. But standing near her... It's like being in an earthquake.

Hisame: May I trouble you for a moment, Ophelia?
Ophelia: You're never any trouble, Hisame. What is it?
Hisame: I was concerned about the problems you had training your bonsai tree. So I got you this...
Ophelia: But this is—
Hisame: Yes, a book about how to care for bonsais.
Ophelia: So basically you're saying... This is a legendary tome that divulges the secrets of the Spiral Drastique!
Hisame: Er, yes?
Ophelia: Such a precious tome, Hisame!
Hisame: I'm glad you like it. I searched long and hard for that book. I know you'll put it to good use.
Ophelia: I vow to you that I will. You've given me two gifts now. I'm twice as delighted!
Hisame: It makes me happy to see you so happy, Ophelia. You're quite cute when you're in such high spirits.
Ophelia: Heh. Am I? Cute? I don't know about that, but I am infinitely grateful for what you've done here. Thank you for introducing me to the power of the Spiral Drastique.
Hisame: You're quite welcome.
Ophelia: Though I have this tome, would you still help me care for this miraculous tree? I sense that the Spiral Drastique's power grows when you're near it.
Hisame: Ha! Yes, of course.
Ophelia: I'll look forward to your visits, Hisame. And now...I must consume this tome!
(Ophelia leaves)
Hisame: With that book, she'll hardly need me to come around very often. Hmm. I suppose I'll just have to learn even more about bonsais then. How else could I spend time with someone as strangely enchanting as Ophelia?

S Support

Ophelia: Hisame! I've brought the Spiral Drastique. Isn't it doing wonderfully? I think I've achieved perfect balance among its branches.
Hisame: Yes...yes...I see... Yes! Your bonsai is beautiful from every direction. Well done, Ophelia.
Ophelia: I've also added some touches of my own. Note the starshine quartz in the soil! That has been absorbing power from the stars and giving it to my tree.
Hisame: Oh? That shiny stone. I see. Very pretty. Hmm? But what is that there? Is that... a miniature house?
Ophelia: I found it at the market. It's a bit of whimsy, I know. But I couldn't resist. Doesn't it seem like a little scene? Like a big house under a HUGE tree? I'd love to live somewhere like this, sitting in that room there... looking out the window, gazing up at the stars.
Hisame: ......
Ophelia: Why so quiet, Hisame?
Hisame: If you ever discover such a big house, under such a huge tree...?
Ophelia: Uh, yes?
Hisame: Could I live with you there?
Ophelia: What? But you're so...so...
Hisame: I know. I'm solitary. And I get anxious when I'm too near others. But to be out in the woods, in a solitary house, with you... I can think of nothing more wonderful than to be alone...with you.
Ophelia: Hisame...
Hisame: No need to say anything. I know someone as vivacious as you has no use for me.
Ophelia: But, Hisame, I'm so flattered that you'd think of me like that. I had no idea!
Hisame: Just speaking from the heart.
Ophelia: I'll do the same. Some say you're aloof, but they don't know you like I do! You thought nothing of giving me your tree and helping me with it. But when you gave me that legendary tome, I realized who you really were!
Hisame: I'm...I'm just Hisame. There's no secret side to me. No special name.
Ophelia: Leave the naming to me. Already I can see that you're not a Hisame. But your true name will take years to discover. Maybe decades! I think we will first need to find our house under the tree. And then we must live there for an eternity before I discover your magical name.
Hisame: That...that would be lovely.
Ophelia: Oh, I can already feel the sensitivity swirling in your soul, Hisame! Already I believe you're attuned to the balance of the heavens!
Hisame: If you mean that I will live for your happiness...then yes. That I am.
