|“||Oh, I'm just a b-bit nervous I'm afraid. Gh-ghastly times, these!||”|
The Hierarch (Japanese: 神官 Priest) is a minor NPC appearing in Fire Emblem Awakening. He accompanies Chrom's Shepherds and Emmeryn during their retreat to the eastern palace in Ylisse to keep Emmeryn out of Plegia's hands.
The Hierarch appears in the opening scenes of Chapter 7: Incursion.
When Emmeryn was young he assisted her in becoming the leader of Ylisse after the death of the previous king. Upon entering Breakneck Pass, the Hierarch becomes nervous, constantly glancing at the nearby peaks. Robin voices their concern about the Hierarch, but admits that they cannot figure out exactly what the problem is.
Shortly later, a pack of Plegian brigands and wyvern riders appear; the Hierarch steps forward and speaks to the leader of the Plegian troop, Vasto, saying that Gangrel should have told them to take him under Plegian protection. Vasto says that he received such an order, but he also says he does not see such a man present, only a traitorous pig. One of Vasto's subordinates steps forward and delivers a fatal blow to the Hierarch.
He is never mentioned again after his introduction and subsequent death in chapter 7.
