Appearance(s)

But, Xavier, you are just as guilty as I am. You are hated by your people as a dirty traitor. They won't welcome you even if you tried to rejoin them.
— Gustaf to Xavier in Chapter 18: The Liberation of Leonster

Xavier (Japanese: ゼーベイア Xavier) is a playable general in Fire Emblem: Thracia 776. He was forced to work for the Empire under Gustaf after the fall of Leonster.

Fire Emblem: Thracia 776

Role

Ten years before the events of Thracia 776, when Leonster fell to the Empire, Xavier joined the Empire and began working under Gustaf in Leonster castle.

Xavier is first mentioned in Chapter 17B; when Leif, August, and Dorias discuss retaking Leonster castle, Leif's advisors are concerned that Xavier and his knights will be trouble. Dorias condemns Xavier for being a traitor though a local tells Dorias that Xavier only turned coat to be able to protect the Leonster natives from the Empire's tyranny.[1]

Xavier is fought as an enemy in Chapter 18, he is accompanied by his eight knights. They have all been forced to work for Gustaf and prevented from rebelling due to their families being taken hostage. During the battle Leif frees the hostages and they meet up with their respective knight, destroying the hold Gustaf has over Xavier. Once Leif speaks with Xavier he happily joins the Leonster liberation army and is glad to be reunited with the heir to Leonster. Dorias tells Xavier that Leif needs a man like him at his side and appears to have discarded his initial misgivings with Xavier being a traitor.

Xavier accompanies Leif's liberation army until at least the liberation of Manster. His involvement, if any, with the war after Leif's forces merged with Seliph's is unknown, as he does not appear in Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War.

Personality and character

Since becoming a servant of the Empire he appears to have grown despondent. When Leif invaded Leonster castle he expressed no joy and seemed content for his life to end there at the hands of the liberation army. While Gustaf constantly reminded him that he is hated by all of Leonster due to being a traitor, this appears to have at least been a partial fabrication; knowledge of Xavier joining the Empire to protect Leonster's locals appears to have been common, at least with the locals themselves.[1] Xavier appears to be a man able to garner the loyalty of his knights, as he was not alone in his ten years of service to the Empire; under him were eight knights also dedicated to the protection of Leonster under the control of the Empire.

Even if he isn't freed by Leif his dying words are still an apology and a wish for Leonster to return to glory.

Endings

Xavier, Loyal Old General
Xavier worked alongside Leif to build the New Kingdom of Thracia. His rich experience and vast knowledge served to be extremely valuable in making important decisions, and the youths in the New Thracia’s government often looked to him for advice.

Trivia

  • Xavier has the exact same growth rates as Olwen, Eyrios, and Galzus.
  • Xavier wields an axe in his artwork from the Fire Emblem Trading Card Game, which is the weapon he has the highest proficiency with in Thracia 776. This is in contrast to his actual artwork from Thracia 776, where he is depicted with a lance, the weapon he is the least proficient with.

Elder: Count Dorias! That's not true!
Dorias: Elder? What are you talking about? Are you defending a traitor!
Elder: No. General Xavier joined the Empire against his will to protect us. After Leonster fell, we commoners were left abandoned in the hands of the enemy. General Xavier felt sorry and sacrificed his honor to rescue us. If it weren't for him, we wouldn't be alive now.
