Appearance(s)

I can only use bows. An archer can't even defend himself at close range. I won't be able to protect Lord Roy if something happens...
— Wolt to Marcus in a support conversation.

Wolt (Japanese: ウォルト Wolt) is a playable character in Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade. He first appears in Chapter 1.

He is an archer from Pherae and the son of Rebecca. His father's identity is unknown, but possible options are Wil the archer, Lowen the cavalier, or Sain the cavalier, given their shared endings with Rebecca in Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade. He is milk brothers with Roy, so the two grew up extremely close to each other.

In Fire Emblem Awakening, Wolt returns as an SpotPass playable character, and he also makes an appearance in some of the DLC chapters.

Biography

Wolt was born and raised in Pherae. Since his mother Rebecca was Roy's wetnurse, the two grew up like brothers. Sometime later, Wolt officially entered the Pheraen knights, thus becoming the youngest of Roy's retainers. He accompanied Roy to his studies in Ostia alongside Marcus and Alen.

He is first seen escorting Roy back to Pherae. When word from the bandits' attack reach them and Roy expresses his worry about Lilina, Wolt admonishes him to leave his regrets behind and to fight.

After saving Castle Pherae, Wolt stays by Roy's side, first as part of Pherae's army, then in the Lycian League's army, and finally, as a member of the Etrurian Army during the final stages of war.

Once Bern is defeated and the war is over, he goes back to Pherae and helps Roy rebuild Lycia.

Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

Wolt is the first archer that joins you in The Binding Blade. His bases, even when taking his early join time into account, are pretty terrible, and his good growths don't help him as much because of his inability to retaliate at 1-range. The high quality of the enemies means he'll have a hard time gaining EXP and one rounding anything other than generic soldiers. Luckily, due to weapons in The Binding Blade having bad 1-2 range besides magic, Wolt has a valuable niche in the earlygame by dealing chip damage that is often necessary to secure kills. Sadly, this niche doesn't last long, as the player quickly gets access to other bow users like Sin and Sue, who also have the benefit of a mount, not to mention prepromoted snipers like Klein and Igrene, making Wolt's main use after the first few chapters benchwarming.

If Wolt is used consistently, he will build weapon rank the fastest because of his perfect availability. Even with lacking stats, this enables him the earliest access to powerful weapons such as the Killer Bow or the Silver Bow. Even with Sue on the team, he also has high value in Chapter 7, due to that chapter's many powerful wyvern rider enemies, though he already faces competition for deployment with Dorothy. If a player wishes to, he remains perfectly usable for the entire game, though he is by no means the first choice for an archer.

Fire Emblem Awakening

Role

Wolt is playable as a SpotPass character, released in the The Binding Blade character set. He is also present as an enemy in the second and third installments of the Smash Brethren DLC series, as well as an ally in Smash Brethren 1.

As with several other legacy characters in Awakening, there is a unique weapon named for Wolt available through the Barracks or event tiles: Wolt's Bow.

Personality

Wolt is a loyal servant of House Pherae. He and Roy grew up as brothers, since Rebecca was Roy's wet nurse, but Wolt is very aware of their different positions in society. This is a cause of conflict between them; while Roy wants him to be his brother and friend, Wolt only sees himself as a simple servant, a notion that Roy disagrees with.[1] Yet this does not mean that Wolt does not care about him. He swears to always be by Roy's side and help him.[2]

Wolt always strives to improve himself. In his conversations with his fellow knights, he is amazed at Alen's physical prowess[3] and Lance's deep knowledge. Both knights take him under their wing and train him.[4] He also often imitates others to better himself to varying degrees of success, such as copying Alen's pushups[5] or trying to read Lance's books on tactics.[6] However, their intense passion for these skills seems to intimidate him.[7] His relationship with Marcus is a bit different; Wolt shows his lack of confidence and feelings of inadequacy, and even has problems believing the older knight's words of reassurance.[8] Over the course of their conversations though, Marcus manages to convince him that even if his peers have superior fighting skills, he is still an invaluable asset to Roy by giving him moral support as a loyal friend.[9]

Wolt cares for all members of the army, as seen in his interactions with Sue. He shows a friendly side to her, caring for her welfare and trying her suggestions,[10] such as shooting arrows from horseback. This also shows that he is willing to attempt new things if it means he can be a more effective fighter, though he ultimately decides to continue fighting on land.[11]

Fire Emblem Characters: The Binding Blade and The Blazing Blade

Wolt's artwork from The Binding Blade is featured in a file in the Fire Emblem Characters book, alongside details regarding himself and his role in the game's story. He is the fifth character listed in this book.

Fire Emblem Character File 005: Wolt
FEFT Wolt.png Gender: Male Estimated Age: Teens Title: Righteous Archer Origin: Lycia
Status: Pherae Retainer Weapon: Bow

Trains every day to become a top class archer

An archer who serves Pherae. His mother, Rebecca, was Roy's wet nurse, and so the two share a sibling-like relationship. As expected, he cares for Roy deeply, and has the distinction of being the only vassal to share such a close connection to Roy. He continues to look up to his superiors Alan, Lance, and Marcus, striving with all his strength to be a great vassal.

Among Roy's amassed army of various veterans, there is no doubt that Wolt lacks experience and still has far to go. Aware of this, Marcus, Alan, and Lance give him advice. Despite that, he is still Roy's milk brother. His closeness to Roy is a position not many other people share. As Roy's emotional support, he has a role that none of the other vassals can do. This is the state of his servitude.

Wolt is an archer who serves House Pherae of the Lycean League. Not only is he a member of the Knights of Pherae, but he's very close to Roy as well—they're just like brothers! During the war with Bern, Wolt was there to support Roy every step of the way. Now, he's helping the Order of Heroes! Those trunks really suit Wolt's brisk and carefree style! Ah, that mischievous grin… Still, I wonder why he decided to join the Order of Heroes in a swimsuit? With that basket full of seafood perched on his back, Wolt looks happy as a clam. I hope he brought enough to share with everyone for dinner tonight!

Wolt

As of Fire Emblem Awakening; see the Japanese name.

Japanese

ウォルト

Romanized as Wolt in the Fire Emblem Museum website (archived by the Wayback Machine). Wolt seems to be a variant of the German name Walt, the shortform of Walther. It is derived from the Old High German waltan, meaning "to rule" or "ruler", and heri, meaning "army".[12] Walter is also the name of a legendary king of the visigoths.
