Appearance(s)

Wolf (Japanese: ウルフ Wolf) is a horseman of Aurelis who served as the leader of Prince Hardin's band of knights in their resistance against the Macedonian occupation of the country. After the War of Shadows, he founded and led the Wolfguard, an elite Aurelian order in the service of Hardin, now the Archanean Emperor. He was fiercely loyal to Hardin even in his descent into tyranny, and as such led the Wolfguard to obstruct Marth's path to Pales near the climax of the War of Heroes.

Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light

Role

Wolf was a member of Hardin's four-strong squad of knights in the resistance against Macedon, forced into a mountain fortress after the castle had been claimed by Macedonian forces. Upon the arrival of Marth in Aurelis, Wolf, Hardin and the other Aurelis knights rode to accompany them in the battle to reclaim the Aurelis castle, and from there fought in their forces for the rest of the War of Shadows.

Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

In original Fire Emblem, the only Horsemen available for the player are Wolf and Sedgar. In original game, Castor does not promote and thus remains a foot-locked unit with Level 20 cap.

While Wolf doesn't promote and his "just okay-ish" stats don't compare to Jeorge's (or even Castor's), his mobility can offer the tactical advantage player may desire from a mounted bow-user like him. While not amazing per se, Wolf can be one of the more useful bow-users in the original Fire Emblem.

Role

Late in the War of Heroes, Wolf and the Wolfguard were travelling south to Pales to bolster Emperor Hardin's forces against the approaching Altean army led by Prince Marth. Their path took them through the central mountains, where they crossed paths with the Altean army and ambushed it. Wolf fiercely rebuked Roshea for daring to question the legitimacy of Hardin's claims against Marth shortly before the battle began. He is either killed in the ensuing conflict or, should the player visit the village, he stands down along with the rest of the Aurelian forces upon the command of the King of Aurelis.

Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

Wolf is a very unique unit. He is pre-promoted with terrible base stats and ludicrously high growths. He has slow EXP gain, and the Horseman class is also ill-suited for gaining EXP, so it will take some work to turn him into a strong unit. Reclassing him into a General raises his durability to an acceptable amount so he can start fighting and gaining EXP with little risk. Over time, his incredible growths will kick in, and he will become nearly unkillable even if he is surrounded by enemies. Once he has grown out of his poor bases, he can be reclassed into a more functional class like Hero or Warrior. As a result of this reclassing, his weapon levels will be quite low throughout the game, but he can make up for this with high stats.

Wolf and Sedgar are largely interchangeable, with Wolf having higher Luck and slightly higher Strength, but slightly lower Defense. Wolf's superior Luck can prevent him from facing low-percentage critical rates that Sedgar is vulnerable to.

Fire Emblem: New Mystery of the Emblem

Role

As in Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem, late in the War of Heroes, Wolf and the Wolfguard were travelling south to Pales to bolster Emperor Hardin's forces against the approaching Altean army led by Prince Marth. Their path took them through the central mountains, where they crossed paths with the Altean army and ambushed it. Wolf fiercely rebuked Roshea for daring to question the legitimacy of Hardin's claims against Marth shortly before the battle began. If commanded to stand down by the King of Aurelis, Wolf's forces retreat, but return as reinforcements for Archanea during the battle of Pales; from here, Wolf can be convinced by Sedgar to defect from Archanea and ally with Marth's forces.

Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

Wolf is one of the many characters in New Mystery that is usable in lower difficulties, but becomes terrible on Lunatic and Lunatic Reverse. For a unit that joins extremely late, his bases cannot compete with the nearly capped enemies of New Mystery endgame and he will at most be able to contribute chip damage. Wolf does luckily posses a good bow rank and he can wield the Parthia as he is reclassed to sniper, but at this point you are likely to have better snipers with an A rank in bows. Wolf also does possess very good growths, but most units in New Mystery do as well and those that do are not likely have better bases or availability to make up for it. As if all that were not enough, Wolf is also one of the hardest characters to recruit in the game due to needing to recruit 3 other characters, all of which will likely get one rounded by both the enemies and even the player's units as 2 of them appear as enemies. Overall, Wolf is not worth the effort it takes to recruit him and even when recruited his performance is quite poor.

Personality and character

This section has been marked as a stub. Please help improve the page by adding information.

In Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light, Wolf's characterization is minimal, as he has no dialogue. In Mystery of the Emblem, his personality is expanded on, as he is shown to be completely loyal to Hardin, rebuking Roshea for questioning their orders and completely rejecting the idea that Hardin lied to them.
