Ambush in the Arena (Japanese: 地下闘技場の激戦 Fierce Battle of the Underground Arena) is the main battle map of the second chapter in the Fire Emblem: Three Houses expansion Cindered Shadows. In this map, Yuri and the Ashen Wolves lure the enemy into an ambush at an underground arena.

Abyss is under attack by mercenaries. To defend it, Yuri and the others lure the invaders into the ruins of an underground arena. You join in the ambush.

Strategy

This section details unofficial strategies that may help with completion of the chapter. This may not work for everybody.

This is a much larger map than the previous one, so reclass Edelgard and Dimitri to Warrior and Paladin so they can get around. The Ashen Wolves all start out with C supports with each other. On Hard difficulty, Yuri comes one point of damage shy of being able to one-round the enemy Holy Knights he starts off nearby, so make sure to forge him a Steel Sword+. He and Balthus can pick off the Holy Knights. Meanwhile, Byleth and co. should make their way out of the southeast corner and regroup with the Wolves. Ashe's Kingdom Archers battalion can use the Retribution gambit to give everyone Counterattack if you need it to safely engage the Sniper. Once you've regrouped and taken care of the first wave, the second will come in. The battle consists of four waves of enemies, so take them on as they come and keep everyone healed with Linhardt and Yuri (plus Balthus, if you're truly desperate). During the fourth and final wave, everyone's favorite bloodthirsty psychopath the Death Knight shows up because of course he has nothing better to do than wander underground and pick fights with people. You don't have to fight him if you don't want to, but that Crescent Sickle is a fine weapon for Dimitri. Byleth is capable of avoiding getting doubled by him and Dimitri can paste him with Knightkneeler. All in all, this map isn't too complicated.

Trivia

  • This is the only mission in the game where enemy Valkyries can be fought.
