Wendell can be recruited in chapter 5 as the first playable member of the bishop class. He distinguishes himself early on as one of the strongest units and stays so for the duration of the game. His class allows him to use both tomes and staves, and his weapon level is high enough to use them all. He can offer huge utility with strong healing with physic, use of the warp staff, and powerful tomes that take advantage of the low resistance of most enemies. He also has a high speed of 14 which allows him to double all but the fastest of enemies. He can also attack at 1-2 range with his tomes, allowing him to avoid damage and counterattack most enemies on enemy phase. His low strength and skill barely affect him since those don't factor into magic damage or magic accuracy. His defense isn't great but it is decent with a base of 8, and since he usually doesn't get doubled he can survive getting attacked as long as he isn't used to take on multiple strong units. Thankfully, if he is standing close to Marth enemies won't prioritize him which can be used to his advantage to avoid damage on enemy phase. The only thing holding him back is his somewhat disappointing 6 movement, but that is somewhat mitigated by his ability to heal anywhere on the map and his ability to attack at 2-range. Overall, his tremendous utility and excellent advantages make him one of the best units in the game and he is well worth deploying. | Wendell can be recruited in chapter 5 as the first playable member of the [[bishop]] class. Analysis
This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Wendell is a pre-promoted Sage with respectable weapon levels and outstanding base Speed. His ability to double attack most enemies, combined with the low Resistance of enemies in Shadow Dragon, allows Wendell to deal very high, consistent damage without being counterattacked. His B rank in tomes allows him to wield Excalibur, giving him obscene damage output on any enemy, even the few that he fails to double. In addition, his D rank in staves lets him use Heal, Mend, and Barrier when he's not attacking. Reclassing Wendell into a Bishop and having use staves 8 more times will raise his staff rank to C, enabling him to use Warp and Physic, in exchange for lowering his tome rank to C and removing his ability to use Excalibur. As a promoted unit, he can even use the very powerful Dracoknight class with some success. Overall, Wendell is one of the best units in Shadow Dragon due to his great versatility, early join time, and requiring very few resources to be useful.
