For more information on the Virtual Console, please see here.
The Virtual Console (バーチャルコンソール Virtual Console) is a brand name used by Nintendo's online eShop under which old games from Nintendo's earlier consoles and those of other former console manufacturers are sold. The service is aimed to provide an alternative to video game emulation by opening up the vast back catalogues of Nintendo and its partners in the service for legal purchase in the modern market. Games sold through Virtual Console are released through digital downloads directly in the console in question itself, which are emulated by the system and thus play near-identically to their original release. The service is currently available for the Wii, Wii U and Nintendo 3DS consoles.
Six of the thirteen Fire Emblem series games have been released through Virtual Console so far, five of which remain exclusively available in Japan.
