Villager

From Fire Emblem Wiki, your source on Fire Emblem information. By fans, for fans.

The Villager (Japanese: 村人 Villager) is a weak class present in Fire Emblem Gaiden, Awakening, and Fates, and was the first "trainee" class in the Fire Emblem series. Characterised as young and/or inexperienced village folk entering the field of battle for the first time, the class traditionally has low stats and growths in and of itself, but in Gaiden and again in its remake, Echoes: Shadows of Valentia, it possesses the ability to promote to a wide variety of basic classes which can again promote into advanced tiers, allowing for greater potential to increase their stats to higher degrees than a normal unit.

  • Civilian (Engage)

In Awakening, the class has no standard class change options in and of itself, instead relying on reclassing for its sole playable member—Donnel—to leave the class. It acts as a special class with a level cap of 30, though with lower stats on par with a base class compared to other special classes.

In Fates, the class is upgraded into a basic class, and can promote to either the Master of Arms or Merchant classes. The class also becomes available to female units for the first time.

In Engage, the Villager is an NPC-exclusive class similar to the Civilian of earlier titles.

Trivia

  • Enemy villager units in Fates are unable to be captured through sheer scarcity and nation of origin; there are no enemy villagers to be found on the Birthright and Revelation routes, and the ones found in the Conquest route are all Vallites who cannot be captured at all.
  • The Gaiden incarnation of the Villager is one of only two classes in the series capable of completely losing access to their weapon type upon promotion, the other being the Pupil. Faye in particular will always lose her ability to wield swords upon her first promotion.
