Personality and character

Vanessa is sincere, serious girl. She does her best when fighting, but according to Syrene she is too serious. She is slightly shy, and has a crush on Prince Innes. She envies her older sister Syrene, because she thinks that Syrene is better all around, showing that Vanessa seems to have little self-confidence. However, according to Syrene, she has a great deal of "inner fortitude". Although she acts serious, when talking, she seems to relax and be able to act less nervous. According to Forde, her "energy" is warm and refreshing.

Not much is known about her life. She was the first to act when her father fell ill. When her mother and Syrene didn't know what to do, Vanessa gathered nuts, sold them in the market, and bought medicine, saving her father. She and Syrene's parents are most likely still alive, since Syrene received the war gold Fale's amulet from her father right before Vanessa left, and her mother was present as well. Vanessa seems to be rather high in the ranks of Frelia, since she attended King Hayden's birthday ceremony and saw Innes's archery. Also, Innes still remembers that when Vanessa just joined the pegasus knights, she was only a girl, according to Innes.

Endings

Vanessa, Dutiful Rider
She remained on active duty as an airborne knight in Frelia's army. Her beauty and determination became the standard to which her fellow knights aspired.

Innes and Vanessa
At Innes's request, Vanessa moved into Castle Frelia where she continued her duties as a knight of the realm. Thereafter, they had a child and lived happily with the blessing of all around them.

Forde and Vanessa
Forde's love for Vanessa grew after the war, and although she loved him as well, she placed her duty to Frelia first. Undeterred, Forde moved to Frelia himself. Over time, the two were wed.

Syrene and Vanessa
Sisters Syrene and Vanessa returned to Frelia after the war for a long-overdue talk. They talked of love and war, of friends now gone. Together, they renewed their bond as siblings and vowed never to let that bond fail.

Etymology

The name Vanessa was invented by Jonathan Swift for his student, Esther Vanhomrigh. The name was created by combining the "Van" of Vanhomrigh and "Essa", a pet name for Esther. [1]
