Good programs to rip sprites from screenshots

I'm kinda curious, I use a mac for reference. Also do you wanna finish transparenting this? [1] Emperor Hardin (talk) 07:58, 27 January 2018 (UTC)

A good program is GNU Image Manipulation Program. PikaSamus (talk) 16:22, 27 January 2018 (UTC)

Japanese name for the World of Radiance and it's chapters

Just stopping by to ask if these can be added to the World of Radiance page before I do anything else. Let me know if you have any opinions.

  • Main Chapter - (Japanese:蒼炎の世界 World of the Blue Flame)
    • Part 1: Radiant Mercenaries - (Japanese:蒼炎の傭兵団 ???) ← Not to sure about this one
    • Part 2: A Mercenary's Pride - (Japanese:誇り高き副長 ???) ← Not to sure about this one
    • Part 3: The Imperial Prince - (Japanese:帝国の皇子 Prince of the Empire)
    • Part 4: The Last Line of Defense - (Japanese:最後の砦 The Final Fort)
    • Part 5: Radiant Hero - (Japanese:蒼炎の勇者 Heroes of the Blue Flame) Master Snake (talk) 02:28, 2 February 2018 (UTC)
Part 2 is "Mercenaries of the Blue Flame". Part 3 is "Proud Commander". Last one should be singular, Ike's title is "Hero of the Blue Flame" in Japanese. PikaSamus (talk) 02:34, 2 February 2018 (UTC)

Ok, thanks. Master Snake (talk) 02:40, 2 February 2018 (UTC)

Fates Enemy-only Classes

Hi, I see you have reverted my edits adding information to enemy-only classes from Fates (for example, Stoneborn) and would like to ask why you have done so. I wasn't just adding numbers pulled out of thin air; I looked into the game files and those classes truly do all have 0% growths in every stat. Geodude (talk) 18:47, 7 February 2018 (UTC)

It just doesn't add up. If all growth rates were zero, then enemies of that class would all have the same stats regardless of level. PikaSamus (talk) 18:49, 7 February 2018 (UTC)
The game has a different set of growth rates for enemies vs playable characters of a particular class. Enemy Stoneborn have growths of 100/70/0/40/25/0/75/30, but if you cheated and made a playable character a member of the Stoneborn class, they would have no growths beyond what they have personally. Geodude (talk) 19:04, 7 February 2018 (UTC)
I know there are different ones, both are supposed to be added. PikaSamus (talk) 19:08, 7 February 2018 (UTC)

About the banners I 've taken from FE Heroes Gamepedia

I came here to apologize for the textless banners I have recently uploaded, because unfortunately I don't how to directly rip these myself. Master Snake (talk) 17:06, 10 February 2018 (UTC)

There's nothing to apologize for, Gamepedia just uploaded the versions that are in the game files. I added the text to the Michalis one by taking a screenshot and overlaying the text over the one you uploaded. PikaSamus (talk) 17:13, 10 February 2018 (UTC)

I didn't notice that, but ok. Master Snake (talk) 17:14, 10 February 2018 (UTC)

Revisions to Marth's gallery (and general gallery guidelines)

Hi, PikaSamus. I have noticed your revisions and notes on the edits I made to Marth's gallery. I apologize for making so many edits without fully familiarizing myself with what standards should be followed on Fire Emblem Wiki. While I have accounts on several game wikis - such as Mario Wiki and Zelda Wiki - I'm still new here, and I know that each wiki operates independently of one another and have their own guidelines. However, in the interim, I would like to respond.

Firstly, I noticed you removed group artwork that featured Marth from the gallery page.

Just curious: why is group artwork inappropriate for the gallery? Is Marth's presence in the artwork not enough? Is there some sort of cutoff? One of the illustrations you removed only features three characters.

With regards to your comments: "(a) the sprite gallery is on a lot of pages, b) that fe13 description... where does it come from? not the game for sure; c) listing artists seems superfluous)"

  • (a) I am aware that the sprite gallery is on a lot of other pages, but I would still argue it is in-congruent with the rest of the gallery. imho, it looks weird and out of place with how the other images are presented on the page. Some of the same portrait sprites in the sprite drop-down gallery are displayed again under the official artwork. Why have this redundancy and inconsistency?
  • (b) The description for Awakening came from Serenes Forest. Based on other character lists, I assumed the description was directly from FE13, but I admittedly couldn't double check. My copy of Awakening is not on me at the moment. That was presumptuous of me...
  • (c)This was personal preference. I would argue there is value to knowing who provided the artwork, or that it is at least interesting, but I agree it is not "essential" and the same info is conveyed on other pages.

Last thing, is there some sort of guideline page for how galleries should be arranged? I can't seem to find one.

Sorry for the wall of text. - Nintendo101 (talk) 19:07, 8 March 2018 (UTC)

Most of those group artworks were accidentally left out when I was going through it. However, the Heroes group artwork, I found redundant, since we already have the solo Marth image. Portraits usually aren't included in the gallery, I'm not exactly sure why some characters do. I agree that it seems redundant, except in the case of characters from games which cannot be included in a sprite gallery due to not having sprites used in battle (i.e. Path of Radiance, Radiant Dawn, Awakening, Fates, and Shadows of Valentia). We do not have a set policy on galleries, and we should probably make one. Perhaps bring it up on Project:Ostia Square or something. PikaSamus (talk) 20:00, 8 March 2018 (UTC)

Ballista engines

Thanks for the info on the direct translation. Still looking at the sprites, descriptions and such, it does appear FE1/FE11 Shooters were meant to have have engines. Besides the sounds likely being an onomatopoeia for an engine, Grigas squad being called the Wooden Horse/Cavalry, implies the vehicles are able to move. I'm very sure Beck meant the fruit was used for Fuel rather then to grease the wheels, Fan translation script link. A Japanese fansite says oil according to google translate. As Another thing to consider is in Tearring Saga, there's a class called "Wood Shooter", virtually the same name as Shooter/Ballistican and is definitely shown to use an engine. Family matters in Genealogy of the Holy War

Then there are at least step- and -in-law-relations… It's either by blood or by marriage. Complicated stuff! --Breakin' Benny (talk) 01:10, 15 May 2018 (UTC)

Dude, why is this so important to you that they are listed on each other's family sections? It's just for a brief overview of important relations, and not every single possible relation whatsoever. Infoboxes aren't for extremely detailed information but simply the basics. PikaSamus (talk) 01:16, 15 May 2018 (UTC)

Fates Game Over

Hey, so I see that you are replacing all the Fates defeat conditions to include a hover for Casual and Phoenix modes. While I think it's great that you're doing this, there's two issues I wish to point out:

  • Unlike Awakening, you are not required to deploy Corrin on any DLC map, meaning the Player's team is routed would still apply if you are playing Classic without Corrin deployed.
  • It's actually near impossible to get a normal Game Over on Phoenix mode even if the team is routed. (Trust me, I tested it.) So unless the map has an unusual objective (Escape in X turns), Phoenix mode basically has no Game Over.

I hope you're ok fixing these. If not, I'm willing to do it myself later. :) Fastesthe1 (talk) 01:24, 24 July 2018 (UTC)

OK; I'll remove the Phoenix mode thing (the DLC chapter edits were undone already). To be really honest, I never actually played Phoenix mode. PikaSamus (talk) 01:25, 24 July 2018 (UTC)
Completely understandable. I don't use it during normal gameplay but I have messed around with it to see how it works. Thanks for fixing. Fastesthe1 (talk) 01:32, 24 July 2018 (UTC)

Spirits in Ultimate

Hello! I saw your sandboxed Spirit pages and I was wondering if you're alright if I help out documenting them. I feel I might be farther ahead in the game based on what you have, but I didn't want to suddenly step in without your permission. Fastesthe1 (talk) 07:12, 14 December 2018 (UTC)

That would be nice, thanks. PikaSamus (talk) 14:55, 14 December 2018 (UTC)
About the Anna and Ryoma spirits, they actually fall under a fourth category known as "Master Spirits". You unlock them in the World of Light, but instead of using them in battle you unlock their facilities, a shop and dojo respectively. Since there is only two of them, I think we could just use the Fighter Spirit template and have "they run a shop/dojo" in the article itself. What do you think? Fastesthe1 (talk) 02:26, 27 December 2018 (UTC)
Sounds good to me.PikaSamus (talk) 04:50, 27 December 2018 (UTC)

Sprite transparency

Bs fe04 enemy emperor staff.png

Could you transparent this sprite. Also is there a way I can view categories at the bottom of the page as it way in the past? I'm not into this new format where I have to look on the side of a page to find the category. Emperor Hardin (talk) 20:54, 22 January 2019 (UTC)

To change back, go into your preferences and change skin to FireEmblem. PikaSamus (talk) 00:41, 23 January 2019 (UTC)
Thanks. I'll probably get the pirate sprite and finish the Emperor sprites. Do you want to transparent the other Genealogy and Mystery artwork or are you good? I'll try to learn Gimp myself to do it eventually as well. Emperor Hardin (talk) 01:17, 23 January 2019 (UTC)
Another way to get the categories at the bottom of the page again and keep the new skin, if you prefer, is to use CSS; something like this should do it:
@media (min-width: 1100px) {
    #catlinks:not(.catlinks-allhidden) {
        display: block;
        border: 1px solid #aaa;
        padding: 5px;
        margin-bottom: 10px;
        background: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.75);
    }

    #catlinks-sidebar {
        display: none;
    }
}

Put that in your timeless.css page, and it should look like it does on the old skin. --Moydow (Support) 01:50, 23 January 2019 (UTC)

Good Afternoon, Pikasamus. I am contacting you because you seem to be the only administrator active in this site. I noticed that the User Login Page still uses the logo from before 2019. It is just a minor aesthetic thing, but I think it could be fixed. Thank you! -TheParagonArcher

I'm in trouble

When I tried to add my e-mail address in my preferences, I was not able to get my password back. I tried all the combinaisons I've used so far but none of them worked. Tacopill recommended me to ask any one on the staff of the site to see if they can reset my password. Is this possible?Kristak (Kristak) 16:50, 25 March 2020 (UTC)

I can't but I think Moydow might be able to. PikaSamus (talk) 15:28, 25 March 2020 (UTC)

Fire Emblem Three Houses Class Images

i noticed that for some fire emblem three houses classes they lack an image for the class. could you tell what sort of image you wish for them. by this i mean do you want it to be as generic as possible or would an image of say byleth as a brawler on a battlefield work for the sort of image you would like. also what sort of dimensions are preferable for for the image, the pages have it sized to 200px but that does not define aspect ratios.Cooldud555 (talk) 15:30, 15 April 2020 (UTC)

Preferably take a picture of a generic enemy, though it doesn't really matter whom you take a picture of. As for dimensions, just crop the image and upload it. PikaSamus (talk) 19:03, 15 April 2020 (UTC)

Is this an good idea for an article?

So there's this article I'm trying to right at the moment and I wanted to ask a mod if the subject is worthy of inclusion, and if it is, what advice do you have for my writing of the article going forward? This is my first article so I don't want to mess it up is all. Here it is. TimothyPrice (talk) 06:49, 18 April 2020 (UTC)

It should be fine; I suppose my only pointer would be to look at other pages and use them as a base for your new page. PikaSamus (talk) 19:30, 19 April 2020 (UTC)
Hey I finished the page here's the link in case you haven't seen it. TimothyPrice (talk) 20:48, 11 July 2020 (UTC)

Gifts in Fire Emblem Three Houses

i was looking through the list of quests page and i noticed there was a lot of red words for the gifts you get as rewards as i thought i could design a page which could be use for it. This page and i would like to know what you think of it. i do not know how to do templates so for the item data i had to leave the uses part blank and would prfer if could change it to say rarity instead.Cooldud555 (talk) 19:00, 12 May 2020 (UTC)

Looks like a kristak uploaded a page a few hours ago Cooldud555 (talk) 19:04, 12 May 2020 (UTC)
Personally I think we should have them all on one page instead of making pages for every single one of them. PikaSamus (talk) 20:04, 12 May 2020 (UTC)
By that do you mean like this https://fireemblem.fandom.com/wiki/List_of_items_in_Fire_Emblem%3A_Three_Houses. Cooldud555 (talk) 06:31, 13 May 2020 (UTC)
I mean like Accessory (My Castle) and Materials. PikaSamus (talk) 16:39, 13 May 2020 (UTC)

New file size limits?

I've been trying to submit new images to the site and I noticed it doesn't seem to allow them if they go beyond 1MB (otherwise I get the "413 Request Entity Too Large" error). Was this something added intentionally with the new site update? If so, should I resize all of the images I wanna submit for the future? User:Blackress (talk) 18:51, 5 December 2020 (UTC)

That is a mistake. It should be 64 MB. The correct people have been notified of this issue. —PikaSamus (talk) 19:51, 5 December 2020 (UTC)

Mystery of the Emblem portraits

Whilst I'm going to contest it, I think the transparent portraits look way better then the ones with the blue background, similar to how transparent battle sprites look better then zoomed in images of battle sprites on a backdrop. Emperor Hardin (talk) 09:21, 18 January 2021 (UTC)

I added the background colors to the portraits because certain portraits have different backgrounds. The way FE3 works is that the portraits have background colors, like fe1. Item sprites have the menu color as a background color instead of transparency, too, but they are all the same so it doesn't matter for those. PikaSamus (talk) 16:06, 18 January 2021 (UTC)

talk page for byleth

Some info that might be worth noting for Vestaria Saga

I've been busy alot and haven't had alot of time to work on wikis, but it might be worth noting in Vestaria Saga that several of the things are similar to Berwick Saga or past Fire Emblem games. Like the, Knight movement is from Berwick Saga and mainly applied to dismounted units in Berwick. In Vestaria, the Guardian class is the only playable class to have Knight movement and it promotes to Grand Guard. Grand Guard has armor movement and has the same name as Armored Knight in the Japanese text.

Guardian is also a class from Berwick Saga, where it was very similar to armored units, whilst technically not being part of the class line. You could consider the Vestaria Saga version of Guardian a successor to Fire Emblem Gaiden Soldier.

Chief Thief is directly from Berwick Saga as well and the Lance using Sentinel Knight could be considered a spiritual successor to the Axe wielding Gigas Knight. Emperor Hardin (talk) 06:21, 7 June 2021 (UTC)
