Lists of names on the American version of the Fire Emblem Heroes poll that differ from the wiki's usual name practices. Actual moves to these names have been judged to be premature (one reason due to a number of contradictions involving official English names; there are six four listings below that contradict pre-existing official English names--four two from The Binding Blade, one from Thracia 776, and one from Genealogy of the Holy War), but in most cases the names on the poll should be, at the minimum, redirects due to being valid search terms. Only the games that have not been represented in international releases have been listed; games that have been represented in international releases have been observed to have no contradictions.

Additional note: The character from The Binding Blade previously listed as "Thite" both on this wiki and in the poll has been called Thea in Heroes proper, thanks to a quote from Shanna. This means that other characters whose names held between NoJ romanization (or the most recent fan translations in the cases of characters without official romanizations) and the poll could end up getting a different official localized name upon showing up or getting mentioned in Heroes proper much like Thite/Thea did. This characteristic is another reason why this wiki chose not to jump the gun and assume all the names on the Heroes poll would hold in the game proper, unlike some other sources.
Update by someone else: We now use CYL names, but do not hold them to nearly the same standard as names that appear in the games, and only use them for relevance. PikaSamus (talk) 03:47, 28 January 2021 (UTC)

Gaiden

All names below have officially held as of Echoes: Shadows of Valentia, either via pre-release material or the game proper.
  • Dyute: Listed as Delthea.
  • Dozer: Listed as Desaix.
  • Fols: Listed as Forsyth.
  • Jenny: Listed as Genny.
  • Geyse: Listed as Grieth.
  • Jesey: Listed as Jesse. Poll listing is in line with the fan translation as opposed to the NoJ romanization.
  • Qulyf: Listed as Kliff.
  • Leo: Listed as Leon. If this were to stick, this character and Fates's Leo would swap names between languages.
  • Luka: Listed as Lukas.
  • Machilda: Listed as Mathilda.
  • Paison: Listed as Python. Another one in line with the fan translation as opposed to the NoJ romanization.
  • Rudlf: Listed as Rudolf. Another one in line with the fan translation as opposed to the NoJ romanization.
  • Savor: Listed as Saber. Yet another one in line with the fan translation as opposed to the NoJ romanization.
  • Silk: Listed as Silque. Sounds like something gringe would do...
  • Teeta: Listed as Tatiana. To be fair, Teeta does sound like it could be used too suggestively (much like "Dieck")...
  • Robin: Listed as Tobin. Likely to avert confusion with the default name of Awakening's Avatar character.
  • Zeak: Listed as Zeke. Of course, since it's an alias anyway...

Mystery of the Emblem/New Mystery of the Emblem

  • Ellerean: Listed as Arlen.
  • Kleine: Listed as Clarisse. ...Sorry, while I get that they may want to avert confusion with Klein from The Binding Blade, but unless there's some dirt on her real name (much like Katarina is to "Eine"), I say gringe was the one on the right track, as "Clarisse" would kill the Mozart reference... (Postrelease note: The The Binding Blade Klein has officially held.)
    • Has officially held as of Heroes proper. ...Then again, "Eine" didn't hold in localization either (come on, "Reese"?), meaning this holding became less surprising since neither half of the Mozart reference held in localization...
  • Yubello: Listed as Jubelo.
  • Ruke: Listed as Luke. Of course, since most of the fandom sees "Ruke" as an error anyway...
    • Has officially held as of Heroes proper. To the surprise of absolutely nobody...
  • Malliesia: Listed as Marisha. ...Yeah, much more wieldy...
  • Feena: Listed as Phina.
    • Has officially held as of Heroes proper. Doesn't really change the sound, far from the worst that could have happened...
  • Leiden: Listed as Reiden. Given the whole R/L deal (maybe that's how "Ruke" came into being), who's surprised?
  • Rody: Listed as Roderick.
    • Has officially held as of Heroes proper. ...Certainly far from the worst that could have been done...
  • Raian: Listed as Ryan. Of course, since most of the fandom sees "Raian" as an error anyway...
    • Has officially held as of Heroes proper.
  • Samto: Listed as Samuel.
  • Sheema: Listed as Sheena.
    • Has officially held as of Heroes proper. Probably not likely to be seen as the worst foul-up on either end, given Japanese names have had far worse corruptions (some of which a number of elitists still won't let go of), and one could easily see a minor corruption on the Japanese end of this case (honestly, an M/N case isn't that difficult to comprehend)...
  • Yumina: Listed as Yuliya. ...This would have likely caused heartaches across parts of the fandom had Awakening not given Julia as an official name for a Genealogy of the Holy War character...

Genealogy of the Holy War

  • Andorey: Listed as Andrey.
  • Mahnya: Listed as Annand.
    • Has officially held as of Heroes proper.
  • Areone: Listed as Arion. Consistent with Project Naga rather than the NoJ romanization.
    • Has officially held as of Heroes proper.
  • Azel: Listed as Azelle. ...OK, did whoever came up with these names somehow see Azel as female?
    • Has officially held as of Heroes proper.
  • Burian: Listed as Brian. Another one consistent with Project Naga...
  • Briggid: Listed as Brigid.
    • Has officially held as of Heroes proper.
  • Deet'var: Listed as Díthorba.
  • Vylon: Listed as Byron. Another one consistent with Project Naga...
  • Sharlow: Listed as Charlot. At least somebody official gives a damn about the substitutes...
  • Holyn: Listed as Chulainn.
  • Kinbois: Listed as Cimbaeth.
  • Corpul: Listed as Coirpre. ..One letter off and it would have been consistent with Project Naga...
  • Radney: Listed as Creidne.
  • Roddlevan: Listed as Dalvin.
  • Danan: Listed as Danann. List writer had the same ideas as Project Naga, but they put the extra N in a different spot...
  • Dimna: Listed as Deimne.
  • Delmud: Listed as Diarmuid.
  • Adean: Listed as Edain.
    • Has officially held as of Heroes proper.
  • Ferry: Listed as Erinys. And to think some people mocked Project Naga over "Erin"...
    • Has officially held as of Heroes proper.
  • Faval: Listed as Febail.
  • Femina: Listed as Hermina.
  • Johan: Listed as Iuchar. (Not "Luchar" as some sources would want people to think...)(The struck complaint has since been rectified.)
  • Johalva: Listed as Iucharba. (Not "Lucharba" as some sources would want people to think...)(The struck complaint has since been rectified.)
  • Janne: Listed as Jeanne. Consistent with Project Naga, but this does make it come across as more French and less Scandanavian...
  • Ctuzof: Listed as Kutuzov. Not that that's any more wieldy...
  • Raquesis: Listed as Lachesis. This is one of the alarm bells that called off page moves on our end, as this listing contradicts an existing official NoA English name (assigned via Awakening).
    • Has officially held as of Heroes proper. ...Given the name origin, this one holding isn't the worst thing that could have happened.
    • Outside commentary: Lachesis is used in Heroes itself; pretty sure precedent says we go with the most recent official name if the game hasn't been localised, so I'll probably be running a text replace on this later. --Moydow (Support) 11:48, 27 February 2017 (UTC)
  • Leen: Listed as Lene ...Another one hitting Project Naga's mark...
    • Has officially held as of Heroes proper.
  • Langobalt: Listed as Lombard.
  • Midayle: Listed as Midir. ...And another Project Naga bullseye...
  • Mana: Listed as Muirne. Out of left field given Lana wasn't really touched...
  • Gandolf: Listed as Munnir. Maybe they're trying to avert confusion with both a Zelda villain and a Lord of the Rings character with this one?
  • Noish: Listed as Naoise.
  • Scopio: Listed as Scipio. ...OK, what the? If you're looking to de-corrupt, at least spell it Scorpio...
  • Shanan: Listed as Shannan.
    • Has officially held as of Heroes proper.
  • Sylvia: Listed as Silvia.
    • Has officially held as of Heroes proper. Not the worst that could have happened, as we're simply talking variant spellings...
  • Tailto: Listed as Tailtiu. ...OK, this looks like the ugly stepchild of the official NoJ romanization and the old fan translations...
    • Has officially held as of Heroes proper. ...Guess that perception's what happens when the people who did the old fan translations weren't too keen on looking up their origins...
  • Teeny: Listed as Tine.

Thracia 776

  • Asvel: Listed as Asbel. ...Apparently the B/V trend apparently isn't as popularly known as the L/R trend...
    • Has officially held as of Heroes proper.
  • Kain: Listed as Cain. Uh, Archanea called, they want their biblical spelling back...
  • Conomool: Listed as Conomor.
  • Dean: Listed as Deen. Uh, Valentia called, Geyse/Grieth/whoever's underling wants his name back...
    • ...Then again, is Fire Emblem Cipher trying to tell us something? The usage of (ディーン(ユグドラル) Dean (Jugdral)) on his Cipher cards to differentiate him from the aformentioned Valentian Deen?
  • Delmud: Listed as Diarmuid. At least those that appear in both the Genealogy of the Holy War list and this one are consistent...
  • Dorias: Listed as Dryas.
  • Felgus: Listed as Fergus. ```Surprise, surprise...```
  • Eyrios: Listed as Ilios.
  • Orsin: Listed as Osian. Alarm bells ringing--this listing contradicts an existing official NoA English name (assigned via Orsin's Hatchet in Awakening). Then again, maybe they realized people were mistaking either this character for Orson from The Sacred Stones, and/or the hatchet as being a reference to the latter character instead of this one? (Of course, since Orson doesn't have axe access...)
    • Has officially held as of Heroes proper.
  • Pirn: Listed as Perne.
  • Selfina: Listed as Selphina.
  • Shanam: Listed as Shannam.
  • Trewd: Listed as Troude.

The Binding Blade

  • Astore: Listed as Astolfo.
  • Bath: Listed as Barthe. ...OK, not even the old fan translation got this fancy...
  • Deke: Listed as Dieck. Alarm bells ringing--this listing contradicts an exising official NoA English name (assigned via Super Smash Bros. Brawl). Who compiled this part of the poll listing, an extreme elitist of the second-worst kind? I could certainly pull the "official romanization goofed" card on this name like with Raian/Ryan and Ruke/Luke. Trust me, the poll listing for this one had better not hold--otherwise those offensive jokes will never stop! Pretty much anything is better than "Dieck"--Deke, Dirk, Duke, Vergil, I could go on and on!
    • Has officially held as of Heroes proper.
  • Ekhidna: Listed as Echidna.
    • Has officially held as of Heroes proper.
  • Elphin: Listed as Elffin.
    • Has officially held as of Heroes proper. ...Of course, it came via Lost Lore, so we still have yet to have a playable performing Bard in Heroes...
  • Idenn: Listed as Idunn.
    • Has officially held as of Heroes proper.
  • Lalum: Listed as Larum.
    • Has officially held as of Heroes proper.
  • Murdock: Listed as Marduk. Alarm bells ringing--this listing contradicts an existing official NoA English name (assigned via his Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade role). What, did whoever was compiling the list forget Murdock appeared in Fire Emblem, or somehow mistake The Binding Blade Murdock as a separate character from Fire Emblem Murdock?(Site has since corrected this error.)
  • Milady: Listed as Melady. ...Look, if you're going to ruin the endearing term, at least call her "Melody"...
    • Has officially held as of Heroes proper.
  • Niime: Listed as Nimue. Alarm bells ringing--this listing contradicts an existing official NoA English name (assigned via her son's Fire Emblem support conversations). Geez, this part of the poll listing's setting off more alarms than chili made with Carolina Reapers...(Site has since corrected this error.)
  • Rutoga: Listed as Rutger. Alarm bells ringing--this listing contradicts an existing official NoA English name (assgned via Super Smash Bros. Brawl). Who compiled this part of the poll listing, an extreme elitist of the third-worst kind?
    • Has officially held as of Heroes proper. ...At least it's the lesser of the two evils as far as these Brawl stickers are concerned, given "Rutger" is at least an actual given name and at least had some business holding (unlike a certain Mercenary)...
  • Jodel: Listed as Yoder. Consistent with gringe as opposed to the NoJ romanization...
  • Wade: Listed as Ward in Round 5, but Wade in earlier rounds.
  • Zelots: Listed as Zelot
