Unwelcome Change/Script
The night after the events of the previous chapter, the Shepherds make camp for the night inside a forest. Chrom and Lissa are awoken by a strange noise and leave to investigate. Suddenly, an earthquake occurs, setting the forest on fire. Chrom and Lissa flee, only to encounter a strange portal that deposits horrific humanoid creatures. The creatures attack, but the siblings are aided by a mysterious swordsman wearing a mask. Robin and Frederick arrive, and together the five slay the monsters. Afterwards, the masked swordsman introduces himself as "Marth", a name once born by the legendary Hero-King. Marth warns the group that calamity is coming and that what just transpired was nothing but a prelude.
Afterwards, the group finally arrives in Ylisstol, the capital of Ylisse. Exalt Emmeryn makes a public appearance, and Robin's companions explain that the first Exalt slew the fell dragon long ago and that Emmeryn is a symbol of the peace he fought so hard for. Chrom further explains that Emmeryn is the only thing keeping war from breaking out between Ylisse and Plegia. Lissa also reveals that Emmeryn is her and Chrom's older sister and that they are Ylissean royalty, much to Robin's shock. The four visit the palace and meet Emmeryn. Afterwards, Chrom, Frederick, Emmeryn, and Emmeryn's retainer Phila decide to hold a war council concerning the monsters, and Lissa takes her leave with Robin.
Summary

Strategy
This section details unofficial strategies that may help with completion of the chapter. This may not work for everybody. |
Start by having Frederick pair up with Chrom and Lissa pair up with Robin. Move Frederick to the north fort and move Robin out of danger. (He can have either the Silver Lance or Bronze Sword equipped; the Silver Lance is more reliable, but the Bronze Sword is cheaper to replace.) On the enemy phase, the Fighter will suicidally attack Frederick and the Mercenary will wound himself.
Enter Sully and Virion. Sully is a speedy Cavalier who is somewhat frail. Virion is an Archer with questionable bases but good potential if he gets his hands on a Longbow. On turn 2, bring Chrom in front and have him kill the Mercenary if he's still alive. Pair Virion up with Sully. If the last Mercenary has Luna+, have them flee to the north; if not, move Sully two spaces south to pick a fight with him. Keep Robin on the outskirts of the danger zone. On the enemy phase, the Fighters and Archer will attack Chrom, who can survive with a little luck thanks to Frederick and the terrain advantages. If Frederick gets a couple of Dual Strikes, so much the better.
At this point, the battle becomes too hectic for any given strategy to be 100% reliable. If Virion hits the Mercenary with a Dual Strike, he (or Sully, if the Mercenary lacks Vantage+) can actually pick him off. If Sully is injured but can't finish him, she should flee north to get healed by Lissa. At any rate, Chrom or Frederick should finish off the injured enemies. At this point, you can probably manage the boss. Note that he generally prefers attacking squishy units like Robin and Virion over the bulky Frederick, even if Frederick can't counterattack. Also, if you can trade Virion's Elixir over to Frederick, that would be really helpful for the next chapter.
Trivia
- This chapter is one of two in the vanilla Awakening game, and one of four in total, to include generic Risen that do not refer to the Risen as such in dialogue, the others being paralogue 16, EXPonential Growth, and Harvest Scramble. In the case of this chapter, this is due to the name "Risen" not being formally coined among the game's characters until the next chapter.
- There is an error present in the animated cutscene during this chapter. Right after Marth calls to Chrom for help, Falchion's hilt can be seen behind Chrom's left shoulder despite it currently being held in his right hand.
