Ultimate Power (Japanese: 究極最強の魔書 The Ultimate and Strongest Magic Book) is the twentieth paralogue chapter in Fire Emblem Fates. As a paralogue chapter, its events are not integral to the game's main storyline and can be done at the player's leisure. The chapter is unlocked after both clearing chapter 8 in Conquest or clearing chapter 17 in Revelation, and have Odin married.

In this chapter, Odin's daughter, Ophelia, has taken a trip out of her Deeprealm to an ancient city known for its rare tomes seeking for an ultimate tome whose name she read out of her father's book of weapon name ideas, and runs into her father who is also in town looking for rare tomes. Ruffians start to pillage the town during this time also looking for rare tomes, to which father and daughter along with the rest of Corrin's army must defend the town.

Plot

Main article: Ultimate Power/Script

We cut to an ancient city in Hoshido roughly east-northeast of Bottomless Canyon N., where Niles and Odin have gathered, to which Niles notes the town is known for its selection of great tomes (after first saying "tombs" by mistake); after Odin pokes fun at Niles's mistake, he states that he's in the area searching for books open to knowledge, laying on their spines, and flapping their wings like the greatest of dragons. Odin then gets a strange feeling, to which Niles guesses is a touch of gas; Odin then starts to go into theatrics, after which Niles apologizes for asking and then notes someone else in the area. We now see a girl named Ophelia who has also come to this town seeking power also going into theatrics, which doesn't escape Niles's notice; Odin then recognizes Ophelia, who then in turn recognizes Odin as her father. Odin asks Ophelia why she's in his world, to which Ophelia states she's searching for "The Super-Ultimate Tome"--listed in Odin's own book of ideas for weapon names, and stated to be the most forbidden book listed within it; Odin asks Ophelia if she really read out of that book and states that the book is private property of his, to which Ophelia states she couldn't help herself and now craves that forbidden book--and she won't stop until she has it. Odin begins to start explaining the meaning of the chosen book when a boy starts telling people to run for their lives, ruffians are pillaging the town; this prompts Ophelia to spring into action.

Cutting to another part of town, Ophelia declares that she is in the area to serve and the townspeople have nothing to fear, going into theatrics again and declares she will have saved "The Super-Ultimate Tome" by the time she's done; a nearby ruffian scoffs at the concept of one girl saving the town all by herself. Odin then arrives on the scene, to which the ruffian asks who he is; within the theatrics Odin goes into this time, he introduces himself with his Odin Dark persona and promises to deliver his most deadly move if the ruffian so much as lays a finger on Ophelia. With the ruffian already confused by Odin's theatrics, Ophelia herself goes theatrical again, including introducing herself with her Ophelia Dusk persona and telling Odin he can leave the area as she's got the area covered, then promising to deliver her own most deadly move; the ruffian tells Odin and Ophelia that they can't scam quality thugs like him and his crew, and calls them into action. Battle preparations take place at this point; the battle begins once preparations are complete.

Once the battle ends, Odin breaks a piece of bad news to Ophelia, revealing that Odin's book of weapon name ideas is just that, merely a book to scribble down impressive names for weapons; Ophelia then asks about "The Super-Ultimate Tome", to which Odin states doesn't actually exist, after which Ophelia expresses disappointment. Odin apologizes to Ophelia for disappointing her, then states he has something that might help make it up to her; Ophelia notes that the object is a tome, to which Odin reveals he bought it in town, dashing into a store between turns. Odin states that he has a habit of naming his weapons, but he hasn't named this tome yet and asks Ophelia to do so; after a brief burst of excitment over being able to actually name the tome, Ophelia decides to name it Missiletainn. Odin asks why Ophelia picked that name, to which Ophelia states she saw it scribbled in the margins of Odin's idea book--along with comments saying it was a pretty crummy weapon that slips out of the hand and dull as a butter knife; Ophelia states that she didn't care about those comments, she just loved the sound of the name. Odin reveals that Missiletainn is the only name in his idea book that he ever gave to a real weapon, then goes into detail about how he remembers the circumstances--a blade to which his hand was wed and his enemies fled, that they were quite a pair; Ophelia asks Odin if his hand is empty now and asks that they hold hands together and let foes flee their wrath, as they are now a threesome with Missiletainn in tow. Odin tries to sort through Ophelia's words, to which Ophelia states she wants to travel with Odin as they are both chosen ones; Odin agrees and asks Ophelia to go introduce herself to Corrin and his/her army. Niles asks Silas if he understood the combined theatrics of Odin and Ophelia, asking if the rest of the army is at risk of being upstaged; Silas asks what Niles means, then notes that their theatrics are harmless fun and that Ophelia seems pretty nice, all while Odin and Ophelia continue their theatrics.

Summary

Odin reunites with his daughter, Ophelia, while visiting a village that is well-known for quality tomes. Enemies suddenly attack, planning to steal a rare tome.

Note: The returning characters list only those recruited by the time this chapter can first be unlocked (after completing chapter 8 in Conquest or after completing chapter 17 in Revelation). In Conquest, Felicia is only a returning character if Corrin is male, while Jakob is only a returning character if Corrin is female; in Revelation, both Felicia and Jakob are available regardless of Corrin's gender. As a paralogue chapter, there is no set timeframe in which the chapter must be taken on; thus, it is possible to have recruited more characters than the above by the point the chapter is started.

Trivia

  • Given Ancient City's location in western Hoshido, it appears quite surprising that it is said to specialize in rare tomes, which are a Nohrian weapon type. On the flip side, Ancient City's location means the two scrolls obtained from villages actually make sense from a geographical standpoint.
