— Chrom noticing Marth's sword
|
Two Falchions is the fourth chapter in Fire Emblem Awakening. In this chapter, the Shepherds have been tasked with winning a tournament at an arena with the ruling power of all of Ferox on the line; their opponent just happens to be a familiar masked enigma. Completing this chapter will unlock the Barracks as well as the Outrealm Gate.
Plot
- Main article: Two Falchions/Script
The Shepherds are escorted to the Feroxi capital, where they meet the East-Khan of Ferox, Flavia. She confirms that bandits raiding the Feroxi border are Plegians posing as Ylisseans, but also states she cannot supply troops to Ylisse due to lacking the authority—the khans of east and west hold a tournament every few years, with the victor acquiring total sovereignty of both Feroxi kingdoms, and the West-Khan won the last tournament. Flavia proposes that Chrom and the Shepherds serve as her champions in the upcoming tournament, granting her total authority to instate the alliance, which Chrom accepts. Flavia wishes Chrom luck in the tournament before warning him of the equally able swordsman championing the West-Khan.
Once at the arena, Lissa points out the West-Khan's champion as "Marth", who remains silent in the face of Chrom's questions. Marth draws his sword, an exact duplicate of Chrom's Falchion, and engages Chrom in a brief duel before the East and West Khan's forces begin fighting in earnest.
Once the Shepherds win the battle, Flavia congratulates them, affirming to Chrom that she will uphold Ferox's alliance with Ylisse as well as provide military support, then inviting the group to celebrate their victory. The West-Khan, Basilio, arrives as Flavia leaves, lamenting his defeat. Chrom asks Basilio about his champion, Marth, whom Basilio remarks to be a "sellsword with delusions of grandeur" that suddenly arrived and bested his old champion, also noting Marth left once the tournament ended. Frederick suggests the Shepherds return to Emmeryn to inform her of the new alliance immediately, but before they leave, Basilio supplies the shepherds with his old chamion, Lon'qu, stating he should be considered West Ferox's contribution to the Ylissean cause.
The Shepherds return to Ylisstol, where Emmeryn has received the news about Ferox supporting Ylisse. Soon after, Phila enters the room and reveals that Plegian soldiers have attacked a village in Themis and abducted their duke's daughter, Maribelle. Phila states that the king of Plegia, Gangrel, claims Maribelle invaded Plegia, and Gangrel is demanding that Ylisse pay reparations for this "insult". Chrom expresses his frustration with Gangrel, but Emmeryn tells Chrom that Ylisse will lose if they give Gangrel the war he wants; their last conflict nearly ruined Ylisse, leaving their people homeless and starving. Emmeryn decides to offer parley with Gangrel rather than risk sparking a war. Phila requests Emmeryn allow the pegasus knights to accompany her and Chrom states his intention to accompany Emmeryn as well, both of which Emmeryn accepts.
Chrom informs the Shepherds they'll be marching to the Ylisse-Plegia border. A mage, Ricken, asks Chrom when they leave, but Chrom responds that he's too young for this mission, stating his magic would be better served in Ylisstol protecting the garrison, before leaving. As the Shepherds leave, Ricken soliloquizes that he'll show Chrom "just how good he can be".
Summary
To secure Ferox's aid, Chrom must defeat Marth in combat and win East-Khan Flavia the throne. Meanwhile, the kingdom of Plegia kidnaps Lissa's friend Maribelle.
