Iago

You were able to exploit some of my deepest fears and flaws, but that's over. My brothers and sisters need me, and I won't let them down! I'm a proud prince of Hoshido, and from now on I will live up to the title!
— Takumi

Traitor Revealed (Japanese: 蝙蝠の正体 Traitor's True Nature) is twenty-fifth chapter of the Birthright campaign in Fire Emblem Fates. In this chapter, Corrin comes ever closer to confronting Garon, but is held up by Iago's trickery, and his reveal of a traitor in their midst.

Plot

The below plot corresponds to the use of a female Corrin. If you refresh this page, it is possible to get an alternate reading using a male variation instead.

Elise leads Corrin and her group to a stairway that leads to the throne room. Before they can climb it, Iago appears and teleports near them. Iago mocks Corrin for still being alive, but Corrin is sick of Iago's games and tells him to fight. However, Iago tells Elise to come to his side, to which she refuses on grounds of making Xander and Leo fight Corrin. As Corrin threatens him, Iago reveals one last trick—Takumi, who begins to restrain Azura. Iago explains that Takumi has been on Nohr's side all along, as thanks to him, he knew of their whereabouts. Corrin refuses to believe Takumi would willingly betray her, reasoning that he must still be possessed. Iago further explains that the possession continued to work because of Takumi's feelings of inferiority to the rest his family and forces Corrin to kill Takumi or let him kill Azura. Corrin pleads for Takumi to stop, saying that she still believes in him. Takumi's possession lapses for just long enough for Azura to sing and dispel it completely. Takumi attacks Iago, and declares that he will live up to his title as prince. Iago is shocked and angered that his plans failed yet again, as Corrin then declares that peace is coming and threatens to kill Iago once and for all, and she and her army begin their assault.

Once they have him cornered, Iago attempts to escape punishment by falsely claiming that he was under a spell as well, though Corrin doesn't believe him for a second. Leo arrives moments afterwards. Iago thinks Leo is here to save him, but Leo is disgusted with him for attempting to escape his fate and calls him out for disgracing Nohr. Iago continues to plead for his life, but Leo shuts him up and executes Iago with his Brynhildr, killing him and ending his schemes for good. Leo clarifies that he will not join Corrin in fighting Garon, though he will not stop her either. Corrin tells him that she still sees him as a brother, and then informs him that his collar is once again inside out. To Leo's surprise, Elise follows Corrin up the stairs, saying that she intends to talk Xander and Garon out of fighting Corrin. Leo attempts to talk her out of it, but Elise just presses on further. Before they leave, Leo warns Corrin that Xander and Garon are far stronger than she can fathom, though Corrin is confident that she can defeat them both. Corrin and her group then take their leave. Once they leave, Leo notices Odin and Niles hiding, eavesdropping on their conversation. Leo reveals to them that he went to the Bottomless Canyon with a strange crystal, and that it had shown him something regarding his father's true state.

Summary

Lilith gives her life so that the group can defeat Hans. Shaken but still determined, they climb the tower, seeking King Garon. Ahead of them waits another trial.
