Hm. I suppose it is time for you to take charge of one of our three houses of students. I must note that I am personally against entrusting someone as lacking in trackable history as yourself with such a task, but it is as the archbishop desires.

Three Houses is the first chapter of Fire Emblem: Three Houses.
Plot
- Main article: Three Houses/Script
On Thursday 4/24/1180, the group arrives at Garreg Mach Monastery, where Archbishop Rhea thanks Byleth for rescuing the students. She convinces a reluctant Jeralt to rejoin the Knights of Seiros as an adviser to the aging captain and hires Byleth as a professor at the academy. After introducing themselves to their colleagues Manuela and Hanneman, Byleth interviews the twenty-four students and chooses one of the three houses to lead: the Black Eagles, the Blue Lions, or the Golden Deer; unbeknownst to them all, this choice will shape the history of Fódlan for generations to come. Afterwards, Byleth formally introduces themselves to their new students.
The following Saturday, Hanneman explains the history of the Crests. He tests Byleth and discovers that they have a mysterious Crest he does not recognize. On the 30th, the three houses engage in a mock battle, and Byleth's students emerge victorious. Rhea praises Byleth's progress with their students. Her retainer Seteth orders Byleth to continue to train in preparation for the Battle of the Eagle and Lion that is to take place in half a year. Rhea explains that next month's mission will be to rout some bandits. Elsewhere, a mysterious masked individual berates Kostas for his failure in his objectives.

Strategy
This section details unofficial strategies that may help with completion of the chapter. This may not work for everybody.
|
At this point, you are allowed to explore Garreg Mach Monastery and must make a selection as to which house you want to lead. This choice will affect very little for the first half of the game, but will determine which path you take at the end of Chapter 12 (or 11, if you join the Black Eagles). After Hanneman's lecture about the Crests, you gain access to the market and can arm your students. The Iron Sword you got from Informal Introductions should go to your main lord, as they need a little expertise in swordsmanship in order to reach the Lord class later on. On New Game+, you may also spend Renown to reclaim your old Professor Levels, support ranks, weapon levels, and class mastery skills, and gain special Crest items that allow your units to gain appropriate Crests. Do not buy Professor Levels until you have eaten your meal with the students, as a single visit to the dining hall gets you straight to E+ and you're just wasting 500 perfectly good Renown. At this point, you are made to wander the monastery. Make sure to complete all three quests, and definitely get into the habit of gardening whenever possible. When taking students to the dining hall, you should prioritize the ones who like the food, need to increase their motivation, and can support with each other whenever possible. Ferdinand's birthday is on the 30th, and you can pay 200G to gain some support points with him. (This can occur no matter which house you pick.) You should do so whenever the opportunity arises, as money is generally very easy to come by in this game.
For the monthly battle, you will be facing the two houses you didn't choose. Even on Classic mode, units lost in this battle will return since this is a practice battle and nobody would want people getting murdered. You are on the south side of the map; the Golden Deer are on the northwest side, the Blue Lions are on the northeast, and the Black Eagles replace whichever one is under your control. Manuela and Hanneman are also here, to the west and east respectively. Byleth and your lord are forced to be deployed. You should also bring a tank (Ferdinand/Dedue/Raphael), a healer (Linhardt/Mercedes/Marianne), and a ranged unit, if you can. Start by moving Byleth into the nearby forest to pull Lorenz/Ferdinand. This will also provoke Ignatz/Hubert and Ashe/Hubert. Knock all three of them silly. This will cause all three of the northeast students to engage. Take them out before the northwest group can reinforce them. Note that Dedue has monstrous defense but buckles quickly to mages. Once they're down, it's time to deal with the northwestern group. Once they're down, all that's left is Hanneman, who shouldn't be too much trouble. Don't be afraid to retreat if you need to, as your enemies are all very strong.
