Excellent reasoning, milord/milady. You've found me out. Though I suppose there is no further need for honorifics, Corrin. I don't have to feign respect for you any longer. Hmm... You have no idea how difficult it is to accurately answer that question. The simple answer is...the whole time. One way or another.
— Gunter

The Vallite King (Japanese: 我が名は透魔王 My Name is the Invisible King) is the twenty-sixth chapter of the Revelation campaign of Fire Emblem Fates. In this chapter, Corrin reaches the throne of Valla and faces one last obstacle in the way of Anankos.

Plot

Main article: The Vallite King/Script

Corrin and his/her army arrive at the door to Gyges' throne room. Before entering, Corrin tells the group that he/she will enter first, though not without some resistance. Corrin insists, reasoning that the Seal of Flames would be critical in damaging Anankos, let alone defeating him. The group enters the throne room, only to find it completely empty. Before they can collect their thoughts, everyone bar Corrin and Azura are bombarded by a sudden magical attack. The group begins to suspect Corrin and Azura as Vallite spys, with Gunter pushing this view further. He states that the two had planned to gather the Hoshidan and Nohrian royal families to Valla to make it easy to kill them all. Corrin denies this, and recalls what happened when they first entered Valla, when Scarlet pinned the flower to her armor, and how Gunter was the only other one to know of this flower. He/She uses these events to deduce that Gunter is both Scarlet's killer and the Vallite traitor within their group. Gunter cackles and takes a seat on the Vallite throne.

When Corrin asks how long Gunter has been lying to him/her, he replies that it must have been the entire time they were together. Gunter mocks Corrin's trust in others, saying how he wanted to rip every bit of innocence from him/her. Corrin reaffirms his/her faith in the others, as well as his/her faith that Gunter can still be saved, believing him to merely be acting out of Anankos's manipulation. Gunter scoffs at this, claiming himself to be Anankos himself. Corrin still refuses to back down, and mounts an attack on Gunter.

When Gunter shows resistance even after being defeated, Azura begins to sing, loosening Anankos's hold on him. Corrin urges him to continue fighting back, to remember all the time they've shared together. Gunter struggles and appears to prepare an attack, which he quickly directs the sword into himself, breaking free from Anankos' control. Corrin asks why Gunter stabbed himself, he states that he will atone for his betrayal with his life. Sakura and Elise are able to heal him before he is gone, and he regains consciousness. He then tells Corrin that, when he rejected Garon's gift of dragon blood long ago, Garon punished him by killing his wife and child, as well as everyone else from his town. He expresses that this event made him deeply distrust royalty as a whole, and that he planned on using Corrin to enact revenge on Garon. Corrin forgives Gunter, saying that he still helped him/her regardless of his intentions, and that he will always be his/her friend. He/She reiterates that Gunter's murder of Scarlet was due to Anankos and not his own will, and urges him to continue living for hers and his late family's sake.

Summary

Overcoming the returned spirit of Sumeragi, Corrin leads the army into the hall of Anankos. No one is prepared for what will happen beyond these walls.

Strategy

This section details unofficial strategies that may help with completion of the chapter. This may not work for everybody.

This section has been marked as a stub. Please help improve the page by adding information.

Note that both Corrin and Azura (if the latter is deployed) are surrounded by a 3x3 aura that provides excellent evasive and healing bonuses to your units. Enemy units gain no benefit, so feel free to abuse this to your heart's content.

Trivia

  • Similarity to the Birthright chapter, Pleasure Palace and the Conquest chapter, Bitter Intrigue, this chapter cannot allow you to use a specific character, in this case, Gunter, because he has to be fought.
