The Secret Seller is the second paralogue chapter in Fire Emblem Awakening. As a paralogue chapter, its events are not integral to the game's main storyline and can be done at the player's leisure. In this chapter, the Shepherds help a merchant caravan unable to reach their destination due to a group of bandits...with the assistance of a secret seller.
Plot
- Main article: The Secret Seller/Script
A male merchant and a soldier are seen conversing in a forested Feroxi location, and the merchant believes all hope is lost, but still asks the soldier to hold on and he'll treat his wounds. The soldier says it's too late. Chrom arrives at the scene and asks what happened in the area. The merchant reveals that there's nothing but death ahead, and asks that the Shepherds turn around before it's too late; any business the group has here will have to wait. Chrom asks the merchant to tell him exactly what happened. The merchant reveals that bandits have blocked the road ahead, that they're demanding a king's ransom in illicit tolls for all who wish to pass. Chrom is aghast at the fact that the bandits seek to profiteer on refugees, calling it a despicable act. The merchant states that his caravan's livelihood is at stake, and they'll do no business in Ferox now. Frederick reveals that the flow of goods must be secured, or the locals are likely to starve; Chrom agrees and states that they will do exactly that. Chrom tells the merchant and his caravan to wait, and he'll tell them when it's safe. Preparations take place at this point. What happens right after battle preparations finish depends on whether or not the player has already completed paralogue 4.
If the player has not yet completed paralogue 4, a pair of twin brothers named Victor and Vincent notice the presence of a village in the area--the village is a thriving little hamlet, and it'll make for a fine bit of pillaging. Victor states that it is his turn to do the honors, to which Vincent agrees; Vincent asks that Victor not kill everybody this time, as such an action tends to cut into profits. Once Vincent leaves, Victor runs into a woman named Anna, who's guarding the village; Anna reveals that the village is closed. Victor, noticing Anna's appearance but unfazed by her words, reveals that she'll fetch good coin; the gold Anna would net from the slavers would build Vincent a fine home. Anna reveals that traders like her are known to make deep cuts.
If the player has already completed paralogue 4, the action cuts straight to Victor meeting up with Anna (Vincent having already died by this point in time in this situation). Anna reveals that the village is closed; Victor reveals that he and Anna have business, and he aims to settle the debt, that Vincent will be avenged today. Anna asks Victor if the two have met; Victor tells Anna that playing dumb won't save her, and that the gold she nets from the slavers will build Vincent the finest grave in the land. Anna reveals that traders like her are known to make deep cuts.
As the battle begins, Frederick notices the village is in danger; someone will have to ride ahead and warn them of what's coming.
During the chapter, Chrom has the option of talking to Anna, and the conversation differs depending on whether or not the player has already completed paralogue 4. If the player has not yet completed paralogue 4, Chrom will ask Anna if she's hurt and begins to offer assistance, but cuts himself off upon seeing Anna is fine and states that it was silly for him to be worried; Anna states that it was sweet all the same. Chrom tells Anna she seems to have things well in hand, but asks her if she won't mind a little company, at least until the rouges get sorted out. Anna, noticing that Chrom is indeed worried and finding it adorable, says she welcomes the assitance. If the player has already completed paralogue 4, Chrom will ask Anna what she's doing there; Anna thanks Chrom but refers to him as a stranger, saying it's nice to see a friendly face for once. Chrom, confused at Anna's "stranger" comment, then begins to ask a question before cutting himself off, saying that the important thing is that Anna's safe; Chrom tells Anna she seems to have things well in hand, and the rest of the conversation plays out in the same fashion as the other situation.
Once the battle ends, the chapter's ending depends on whether or not the player has already completed paralogue 4. If the player has not yet completed paralogue 4, the male merchant thanks Chrom for his help, having feared his goods would spoil before reaching market but now certain the townsfolk will be happier for the fresh food. Anna notices Chrom having done a kind thing for a fellow merchant, and introduces herself, also revealing that some folks like to call her the Secret Seller; Anna tells Chrom that the next time they meet, she'll cut him an extra-special deal. The concept of the Secret Seller appears to sound familiar to Chrom; Anna says she'd tell him more, but doing so would defeat the purpose of it being a secret before wishing Chrom good luck and happy shopping. If the player has already completed paralogue 4, Anna reveals that Chrom must have met one of her sisters; Chrom is puzzled as to how they look identical. Anna states that there is a strong family resembelance, and that they're all traveling merchants; Chrom asks if they all have the same name, which Anna confirms. Chrom wonders how holiday feasts must be confusing, and ask how the Annas tell each other apart; Anna states it's part of the secret, then wishes Chrom good luck and happy shopping.

Character data
Note: The returning characters list only those recruited by the time this chapter is unlocked. As a paralogue chapter, there is no set timeframe in which the chapter must be taken on; thus, it is possible to have recruited more characters than the above by the point the chapter is started. The returning characters list also does not include any characters recruitable in other paralogues, as the player may not have taken on any other available paralogue chapters yet. The list also does not include any bonus units, as they are recruitable at the player's discretion.
