Eirika begins her travel south using Seth's planned route. Moulder find their plan sensible, though he hopes for quick travels and no run-ins with Grado's troops. Vanessa volunteers to scout ahead on her Pegasus. Eirika has no objections to this.
Eirika begins to travel south using Seth's planned route; Vanessa volunteers to scout ahead on her pegasus. Ahead of Eirika's group, bandits plan to attack the local villages, Grado's invasion having left them vulnerable. Ross alerts his father, Garcia, that bandits are approaching the village; the two escape during the attack, though Ross suffers an injury. Vanessa, having witnessed the attack, flies back to Eirika to alert her to the situation. Eirika, wishing to aid the villagers, forms a plan: Vanessa will bring the boy to their side of the mountain range and Moulder will heal him with his staff. If Easy Mode is being played, this will occur through tutorials; in any other mode, it is up to the player's discretion to follow Eirika's plan.

Ahead of Eirika's group, two bandits, Bazba and Bone, are planning to attack the local villages, Grado's invasion having left them vulnerable. Ross alerts his father, Garcia, that bandits are approaching the village. Garcia tells Ross that they must leave immediately. The two escape during the attack, though Ross has suffered an injury. Garcia calls out for someone to help his son, though the only person that seems to have witnessed this is Vanessa, whom flys back to Eirika to alert her to the situation.

Eirika immediately wishes to help the villagers in need, as well as the villages that have yet to be attacked. Eirika forms a plan; Vanessa will bring the boy to their side of the mountain range and Moulder will aid the injured boy with his heal staff. If easy mode is being played, this will occur through tutorials, in any other mode it is up to the player's discretion to actually follow through with Eirika's plan.

After routing the bandits Seth approaches Garcia, if Garcia and Ross survived the battle, recognizing Garcia from Renais' military. Seth mentions that Garcia, known as "The Great Garcia", served Renais ten years prior. Before the conversation can proceed Garcia quickly mentions that he is retired, and that he made a promise to his deceased wife that he would protect Ross at all costs. For a moment no one objects to this, until Ross speaks up, claiming that he is no longer a child that needs to be protected and that Garcia can never be happy living in peace when being a warrior is part of who he is. Garcia, feeling his son can handle himself now, joins Eirika's forces to serve Renais once again.
During the battle, Ross can talk to Eirika; Ross asks Eirika for help, but insists he fight with them to save his father. Ross can also talk to Garcia; Garcia urges Ross to get out of danger, but Ross refuses and continues to fight with his father.

Shortly before departing, a villager approaches Eirika and offers her group food and beds to sleep in for the night. Eirika, though thankful, rejects the offer, saying she is in a hurry and her group must continue their travels. The villager notices Eirika's bracelet and warns her not to wear valuable items so openly, as groups like Bazba's Bandits will make her a target.

Later that night, having left Ide, Eirika reminisces on her first round of sparring with her brother Ephraim three years prior. Having distracted herself, a man bumps into her, apologizes, and runs off. Eirika is confused for a moment, then she realizes her bracelet is missing. Eirika is willing to let the valuable trinket go, but Seth is incredibly worried about the bracelet and chases after the man.

Beginning log
Eirika is willing to let the valuable trinket go, but Seth is incredibly worried about the bracelet and chases after the man.
King Hayden apologizes for being unable to spare soldiers. However, he does provide Eirika with a small but trusted party of vassals. Eirika is grateful for the king’s aid. Chasing rumors of her brother, she sets out for Grado. The group's first stop is the remote village of Ide, which was, until very recently, a part of Renais. Here, Eirika sees the devastation of Renais with her own eyes.

Ross is the first trainee unit you recruit, making him the quickest to raise. He may seem weak at first, but after his promotions he has the potential to become one of the best axe users in the game. Keep him safe while he's still feeble, but remember that raising him is well worth it.

The Protected (Japanese: 守るべきもの Something to Protect) is the second chapter of Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones. Eirika and company begin their journey toward Grado to meet with her brother, Ephraim. As they pass through the village of Ide, they encounter a group of bandits harassing the villagers, and agree to put a stop to them.

This chapter features tutorials about rescuing units to move them out of harm's way, as well as a tutorial on healing units.

Plot

Main article: The Protected/Script

During the battle, Ross can talk to Eirika; Ross asks Eirika for help, but insists he fight with them to save his father. Ross can also talk to Garcia; Garcia urges Ross to get out of danger, but Ross refuses and continues to fight with his father.

After routing the bandits, Seth approaches Garcia, if Garcia and Ross survived the battle, recognizing Garcia from Renais's military. Seth mentions that Garcia, known as "the great Garcia", served Renais ten years prior, and requests that he again fight for Renais. Garcia refuses, stating that he is retired, and that he made a promise to his deceased wife that he would protect Ross at all costs. Ross then speaks up, stating that he is no longer a child in need of protection, and that Garcia can never be happy living in peace when being a warrior is part of who he is. Garcia, feeling his son can handle himself now, joins Eirika's forces to serve Renais once again.

Before departing, a villager approaches Eirika and offers her group food and beds to sleep in for the night. Eirika thanks him but rejects the offer, saying her group must continue their travels. The villager notices Eirika's bracelet and warns her not to wear valuable items so openly, as groups like Bazba's Bandits will make her a target.

Later that night, having left Ide, Eirika reminisces on her first round of sparring with her brother Ephraim three years prior. Having distracted herself, Colm bumps into her, apologizes, and runs off. Eirika is confused for a moment, then she realizes her bracelet is missing. Eirika is willing to let the valuable trinket go, but Seth is incredibly worried about the bracelet and chases after the man.

Strategy

This section details unofficial strategies that may help with completion of the chapter. This may not work for everybody.

You'll need to keep Ross and Garcia safe if you want to recruit them. A good way of doing this is to rescue Ross with Vanessa and then fly back left towards the rest of your units. Then, you can have another unit take and drop Ross down so that Eirika can talk to and recruit him. This process can be repeated with Garcia, with the difference being than you must talk to him with Ross and not Eirika in order to recruit him.

Besides that, the chapter itself is very straight forward - just kill all the units on the map. Feel free to visit all the villages and obtain some free items.

Ross is the first trainee unit you recruit, making him the quickest to raise. He may seem weak at first, but after his promotions he has the potential to become one of the best axe users in the game. Keep him safe while he's still feeble, but remember that raising him is well worth it.
