— Lilina to Roy

The Blazing Blade (Japanese: 烈火の剣 The Sword of Flame) is the first extra chapter in Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade. In order to be able to fight Bern's dragons, Roy and his army try to take one of the Legendary Weapons - Durandal, the sword of flames.

In order to play this chapter, Lilina must have survived the previous chapter.

Plot

Main article: The Blazing Blade (chapter)/Script

Having rescued Lady Lilina and defeated Legance, the Lycian Army finds itself with almost no time before the mighty dragon knights of Bern arrive at Ostia. Without any other choice left, they hurry to the outskirts of Ostia, where one of the Legendary Weapons lies hidden.

Yet the cave has been taken over by a group of bandits, who have already noticed the army approaching the cave. One of them runs to inform his boss, Henning, who is quite confused at this change of events. He points out that the Lycian lords do surely have something better to worry about than bandits like them. Letting out a sigh, Henning suggests his men to bait the army to the spots where lava spurts and then finish them off.

Already on the entrance of the cave, Lilina beckons Roy to hurry, pointing where the Divine Weapon should be. But Roy is more worried about Lilina's feelings, and asks her whether she feels better now. Lilina admits she is not completely fine, but since she is the new leader of Ostia, the march and its inhabitants are her priority now. Roy warily nods and leaves, which prompts Lilina to whisper that she is fine because he is by her side. Roy immediately turns around and asks her if she said something. Lilina quickly denies it, and returns to the topic at hand: the Divine Weapons. She explains that the one hidden here is Durandal, the sword wielded by the hero Roland, the first king of Ostia.

Roy nods, although he seems not to remember the story very well. Lilina continues with the legend, which says that Roland was even able to bring back life to Ostia's barren soils with Durandal. Surprised, Roy comments on the sword's alleged faculties, and Lilina replies that if this sword can defeat dragons, it must have some kind of powers.

Suddenly, Roy remembers there is a group of bandits inside the cave, and worries about the sword's whereabouts. Lilina reassures him, noting that only Roland's successors can take it from its resting place. Relaxing a bit after hearing that, Roy once more commands his army, now to take the Divine Weapon.

After having defeated the bandits without too much trouble, Roy and Lilina find what they have been looking for: Durandal, the blazing blade. Just by looking at it, Roy can already deduce that not many of their soldiers will be able to wield it. However, Lilina tells him that Roland was a small man; she believes that the possible wielder's skill has more importance in this case. Hearing this, Roy asks if he will be able to use Durandal after training some more. Giggling, Lilina replies 'perhaps,' an answer that does not sit well with the young lord but propmts some more laugh from Ostia's marchioness.

However, all laugh dies when Merlinus arrives with the worst news: Bern's dragon lords have reached Ostia. Fearing for Lycia's future, Roy runs back to the city, only to find Narcian waiting for him. The general thanks him for having taken care of Legance, and now, the city will be going under his watch. Roy refuses, but Narcian reminds him that he has not enough power to defeat Bern's dragon knights.

Just when all hope seems lost, an unknown voice stops Narcian and his warriors. Out of nowhere, a full legion arrives, commanded by Perceval and Cecilia, two of the three Etrurian Generals. Addressing Narcian, Perceval explains that Ostia is now under their protection. Any further action from Bern will be taken as a direct aggression to Etruria. Of course, if Narcian wants to, they can fight right here, right now.

Narcian seems ready to fight back, and one of his soldiers tries to calm him; they are in a really dangerous position now. Narcian shouts he is aware of that and leaves, but not without threatening Cecilia before.

Once Bern's soldiers have left, Perceval turns to Roy, asking if he is the general of this army. Roy nervously nods, justifying that he is leading the army in Lord Hector's place. He then thanks them for their help. Perceval refuses, though, saying that all is due to Cecilia's intervention, who went as far as disobeying the king. Incredulous, Roy asks if this is true. An amused Perceval confirms it, and saying that it is not good for Etruria to have two of its three general somewhere else, he leaves Ostia.

Now that they are alone, Roy apologizes for all the trouble Cecilia went through for his sake, but the general stops him. She reveals there is no reason to thank them - in all honesty, they did it for Etruria's sake. When Roy asks what that means, Cecilia explains that they were also worried for Bern's aggressive actions, which were threatening the balance in Elibe. However, as long as they were not directly attacked, they could not declare war on Bern. Thus, when they received Ostia's request, they saw it as a good chance.

Roy replies he will not thank Etruria then, and invites his former teacher to meet the rest of his army. Watching him return to Castle Ostia, Cecilia comments on how much her student has changed since she last saw him, and gladly follows him.

Begining log

Roy vowed to protect Lilina. With Bern coming full force however, Roy's army is no equal. Therefore, he decides to try and obtain a legendary weapon. He thinks it best to obtain it before Bern manages to get their hands on it.

Lilina shows them to a cave on the outskirts of Ostia, where a legendary weapon is hidden. The cave, located at the foot of a volcano, will be no small obstacle for Roy...
