The Bishop's Teachings (Japanese: 司祭の教え The Bishop's Teachings) is Chapter 17B of Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade. In order to play this chapter (and the rest of the Sacae route for Chapters 18, 19, 20, and 20x), the combined experience of Sue and Sin must be higher than the combined experience of Shanna and Thea by the end of Chapter 16 or 16x. Otherwise, Ocean's Parting and the Ilia route will be played instead.
Plot
- Main article: The Bishop's Teachings/Script
After Roy captures Aquileia, the revolutionary forces, including their leaders Roartz and Arcardo, are chased out of Etruria. They join with Bern's army and flee to Sacae. Roartz and Murdock meet with the Wyvern General Brunnya, who puts Arcardo in charge of Castle Talas at the Etrurian border, and orders Roartz to head for Bulgar to put down the remaining rebels in the city. Though the soldier accompanying her expects Roartz and Arcardo to die, Brunnya says that they are cowards for betraying their homeland and should be grateful to receive any support from Bern at all.
Meanwhile, the Lycian Army has joined with the Etrurian forces. Roy remains in charge, but he renames the joined force to the Etrurian Army to appease the new Etrurian soldiers who might otherwise oppose fighting under Lycia's banner. Now stronger than ever, the Etrurian Army marches on Sacae for a full offensive against Bern. Shortly before they reach Castle Talas, Yoder talks to Roy. He asks Roy to report to him if Roy discovers new information about Bern's dragons, and Roy promises to do so. After warning Roy to be careful, Yoder bids farewell to the Etrurian Army.
As predicted, Arcardo falls in battle against Roy. Merlinus pities Arcardo's death, and then notices Roy carrying the Fire Emblem. Roy says Princess Guinivere entrusted it to him with the hope to end the war through diplomacy. At that, Merlinus muses that she must have some faith in her brother, despite the rumors that Zephiel killed his own father. This is shocking news to Roy, and he ponders asking Guinivere for more information.

Strategy
This section details unofficial strategies that may help with completion of the chapter. This may not work for everybody.
|
This is another fog of war map. Make sure to equip your characters with torches.
For the lower path, use mounted or armored units. For the upper path, use foot soldiers with high evasion; they will move faster in the forest tiles than mounted and armored units can. Take advantage of the additional evasion boost provided by the forests.
Some things to remember:
- Watch out for the Sage near the Ballista; he wields a powerful Bolting spell.
- Ensure that several of your units carry Vulneraries. There may be times when your healers are out of reach.
- Never place flying units within 10 tiles of a Ballista.
- Visit the town in the upper region before turn 6 to prevent it from being destroyed by an enemy Thief.
Consider acquiring the Eclipse magic on this map. It can do significant damage to walls. This will be handy in upcoming chapters, allowing you to progress faster. However, refrain from using Eclipse against enemies; it tends to miss.
As for the boss, magic attacks are more effective than axes. But be cautious: he can counterattack with his Javelin during the enemy phase.
