Strategy

This section details unofficial strategies that may help with completion of the chapter. This may not work for everybody.

The first order of business is the cell in the upper left corner of the map where the Archanean knights are imprisoned. The enemy Mage can one-shot Dolph, Macellan, and Tomas, and two-round Midia and Boah. The two Archers can one-round Macellan and Tomas and two-round Midia and Boah. If they both get 9 Strength, then they two-round Dolph; otherwise, they one-round him as well. Fortunately, a Thief near your starting position is perfectly willing to donate a fresh Warp staff, so that shouldn't be too much of an issue. As far as the units themselves are concerned, Dolph outclasses Macellan in every way possible except for a moderate disadvantage in Luck and a small disadvantage in Strength. Both of them will be inferior to a trained Draug, never mind Wolf or Sedgar as a General. Tomas serves as an acceptable replacement for Gordin or Castor if they are untrained or dead, but if you've already got a trained bowman, he's not worth much. Midia gets clobbered by any decently trained Cavalier, but at least she recruits Astram. Finally, Boah has poor stats and growths, and is mainly useful for his base C staff rank, allowing him to use Warp and Physic right from the get-go.

On turn 1, Warp someone powerful like Caeda, Wolf, or Sedgar to one-round the Mage. Note that the nearby Knight will not aggro, so you can safely pick off the Mage. Leave a couple of bulky units behind to deal with the reinforcements, and push your way to the west. On turn 3, Heimler and his two men will aggro and start making their way towards you, while enemy reinforcements will start appearing. Bunker down and kill them all. Meanwhile, you can have a Thief start looting the treasure room. The General won't aggro, so feel free to help yourself. The Sniper near Volzhin, on the other hand, will gleefully shoot you in the face.

Once you've beaten back the initial wave, the biggest threat is the Sniper. The safest way to delete him is to first move a unit onto the chest containing the Dragonpike. The enemy Curate is too stupid to move out of the Sniper's way, so the Sniper will simply move one space right on the enemy phase. Then, open the door, have Caeda severely injure him with a Silver Lance double, and finish him with a strong ranged attack. Once he's dead, you can pick off the Curates at your leisure. The boss, Volzhin, has 16 Speed after accounting for his tome's weight. Have Caeda deal with him. Make sure to get the Boots in the bottom right corner of the map before seizing. There's also an armory there that sells swords. You shouldn't need to buy any Armorslayers since you got a free one from that Thief and swords are bad in this game. If you do end up needing some, they are available at least every other chapter up until Chapter 20.

If you have 15 or less units alive at the end of the chapter, you're heading to Chapter 12x.
