Tharja (サーリャ, Sallya) is a dark mage from Plegia. Uninterested in wasting her life in the conflict between her nation and neighboring Ylisse[1], she instead allies with the Shepherds. She has a preoccupation with curses, often found chanting suspicious ones to herself when alone.
Fire Emblem Awakening
Role
She is among a group of Plegians in Chapter 9 defending the Castle's Courtyard during Emmeryn's execution. At the beginning of the chapter she notes she is not willing to fight for a cause she doesn't believe in, giving a hint to the player for her recruitment. She will talk to Chrom and be recruited if Chrom walks in melee range of her or if he talks to her personally.

Personality and character
Tharja has something of an obsession with Robin; this manifests even in her support conversations with other characters.[2] She explains this obsession started the moment they crossed eyes and that she knew Robin was different[3]. This happens regardless of Robin's gender. Tharja follows Robin around for the first week after she joined the Army, and takes note on every move he/she makes, including how many books he reads daily, what he eats and how much he moves while sleeping[4]. This kind of dedication is exclusive towards Robin, and she is usually very cold, sarcastic and even rude to others.
Tharja comes from a very long line of shamans and sorcerers, and has been learning the dark arts since a very young age. Her spells can have both positive and negative effects on the target. For example she can hex someone to either cure or cause a disease. She can communicate with the dead as well, using her body as a medium or divine someone's future with the use of a Manakete claw[5].
She has the nicest body in the army and the darkest thoughts.
Interestingly, there is some conflict to her back story about her family relations. In her support with Kellam she sends letters to her family and is familiar with them[6]. Yet when Tharja meets Robin, as described in the background site, she states that she has no family[7].

Endings
Tharja, Grim Stalker (single ending)
Tharja's jealous obsession with Robin never subsided, even after her return to Plegia. Anecdotal evidence suggests she devoted most of her effort to hexes and curses that might reunite them.
Robin, High Deliverer & Tharja, Grim Stalker
Many wrote of Robin's legendary exploits, but accounts of his origins and character varied. Scholars, poets, and bards agreed on one thing alone—he loved his wife, Tharja, above all else.
Frederick, Cold Lieutenant & Tharja, Grim Stalker
As Ylisse's new knight captain, Frederick took charge of keeping the peace and training new recruits. Tharja's rare appearances at the training yard sent terrified recruits screaming into the night.
Virion, Archest Archer & Tharja, Grim Stalker
Virion returned home to Rosanne, where he was labeled a traitor and a coward, or else ignored entirely. But a few well-placed hexes from his wife, Tharja, eventually brought the populace to their senses.
Stahl, Viridian Knight & Tharja, Grim Stalker
Stahl continued his service as an Ylissean knight and led crucial missions across the realm. His scatterbrained gaffes caused Tharja's eyes to roll, but the pair still made a happy life together.
Vaike, Zero to Hero & Tharja, Grim Stalker
Vaike returned to the streets that raised him and was welcomed as a hero and brother to all. Still, he was no match for Tharja, whose frequent curse slinging put her husband in an understandably foul mood.
Kellam, Oft Forgotten & Tharja, Grim Stalker
Even after her return to Plegia, Tharja kept an unhealthy obsession with Robin that led her to vanish for weeks or months at a time. Her husband's name has been lost to history.
Lon'qu, Gynophobe & Tharja, Grim Stalker
Lon'qu returned to Regna Ferox and served as Basilio's right-hand man. The cold Feroxi winters proved too much for Tharja, who left time and again in search of heat more in line with a Plegian desert.
Ricken, Upcoming Mage & Tharja, Grim Stalker
While continuing to study magic, Ricken realized how childish some of his actions had been. Tharja stayed with him and perfected her hexes, and the couple's magical talents soared.
Gaius, Candy Stealer & Tharja, Grim Stalker
Gaius never lost his sweet tooth, though he ultimately returned to less savory enterprises. Meanwhile, his wife, Tharja, set up shop and hexed people for a living. The pair were said to get many odd looks.
Gregor, Swell Sword & Tharja, Grim Stalker
After the war, Gregor briefly sank into a life of excess, but fear of his wife's hexes led him to resume work as a sellsword. Tharja secretly tagged along and used her talents to keep him safe.
Libra, Fetching Friar & Tharja, Grim Stalker
Many an unfortunate child found joy in the small orphanage Libra and his wife built after the war. The younger tykes were very fond of Tharja—who feigned annoyance, but secretly enjoyed the attention.
Henry, Twisted Mind & Tharja, Grim Stalker
Henry settled down with Tharja and turned out to be a surprisingly good father. Their newborn daughter's mood was said to shift violently, perhaps a side effect of having two dark mages for parents.
Donnel, Village Hero & Tharja, Grim Stalker
Donnel returned to his tiny village and built a happy life with his mother and his wife, Tharja. The latter never warmed to the villagers, but she was said to smile around her family.

Other appearances
Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS
A trophy of Tharja was intended to appear in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS. It was featured in screenshots released as part of the leak of footage sent to the ESRB for age rating decision, but is missing in the final release. It is currently unknown why the trophy was removed, but the fact it was removed from the game after it was reviewed by the ESRB suggests that they decided Tharja's design was too revealing for the game to maintain the E10+ rating it received. Later investigation of the game's files revealed that the trophy's files were removed entirely from the game.
Notable Merchandise
A statuette of Tharja was released in the Japanese market by Good Smile Company in March 2014, and was Good Smile's first Fire Emblem statuette. The product page for the Tharja statuette can be found on Good Smile's website. The MSRP of the figure was 10,286 yen. It features Tharja leaning on a stack of books in a seductive pose.
The statuette has a few display options. The cape is removable, and, somewhat notably, the statuette does not connect to the base an can be entirely displayed without it, being able to stand on its own. It also comes with a skull accessory to display with the statuette, but it does not have a specific place and can be put anywhere, promotional images place it at Tharja's feet.
