Raffin is the first pre-promoted unit the player has access to in Tear Ring Saga, aside from Lee. He acts as the most traditionally styled of the many Jagen type characters in the game, as he starts as a Bronze Paladin with stats above the other cavaliers. Immediately, he has strong movement, physical attacking ability, and high weapon level to use his Killer Lance, even while dismounted. Additionally, he starts with Canto for more flexible repositioning. Notably, despite his status as an earlygame crutch unit, Raffin has surprisingly high growths all around, particularly in HP, Skill, and weapon level, making his level ups just as if not more fruitful than his contemporaries. Raffin will easily be one of the player's strongest units Pre-Route Split.

If Raffin is sent on Runan Split 1, at the end of chapter 10 should he have spoken to Sharon in the map, Raffin will promote to Wyvern Knight, giving him astronomical utility as a flier with superior physical stats. As he levels up, he will learn both Vantage and Continue which compliment his high speed.

If Raffin is sent on Holmes Split 1 for whatever reason, he will be unable to promote to his advanced class, but he has a unique conversation with Reshe in chapter 21. This is not recommended.

Raffin is among the best units in Tear Ring Saga, and one that should always be present on the player's active roster.
