Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

Kreiss is a cavalier who joins in chapter 1 alongside fellow cavalier Arkis. As a cavalier, Kreiss has good mobility and access to both swords and lances. Compared to Arkis, Kreiss has higher base strength and weapon level, allowing him to hit harder and use better weapons, but he cannot double as reliably due to his lower speed. Kreiss is more immediately useful than Arkis, as he can one-round what he can double whereas Arkis struggles to one-round even if he does double.

Kreiss has decent growths in most areas, which would allow him to maintain decent combat potential throughout the game, if not for his biggest issue, which is his low speed. His speed base is mediocre and his growth is rather low, so Kreiss will increasingly struggle to reliably double enemies, especially when considering the fairly restrictive doubling threshold. This makes him fall off in the mid to late game as enemies catch up in speed, but his decent strength and good weapon selection can make him still usable later on against low Attack Speed enemies that populate the lategame, should his growths cooperate long-term.

Kreiss also promotes to the statistically weakest Paladin class, the Bronze Paladin, which fortunately has no dismount penalties but unfortunately does not remedy his speed situation. However, it can use lances indoors such as the Javelin and Pilum, one of the few classes that can.

In terms of route splits, Kreiss should be sent alongside Arkis on Runan Split 1 to make the most of their mutual support which increases after chapter 9. Should the player be interested in the Leteena Event, both cavaliers should be sent on Holmes Split 1, and Kreiss should be trained and promoted before Runan Split 2. If doing so, he will reap the rewards for the player's patience of a lucrative mutual 15% support with Leteena. While Kreiss is much more suited for Runan's maps, a Kreiss promoted early on with the Chapter 3 Knight Proof can use ranged lances in the many indoor maps that make up Holmes Split 1. Even if the promotion item is not used, Kreiss can still perform serviceably indoors using swords only against the weak enemies that make up Holmes Split 1.

Kreiss has a somewhat unfortunate skillset, only learning Luna as an offensive skill at level 25, and learning Vantage at level 19. While this can be useful against enemies with heavy weapons, his mediocre speed means it won't come up much. Nihil is learned at too high of a level to ever be practical.

Ultimately Kreiss can be a decent unit in the early to midgame, but with a modest amount of investment can be a reliable, high movement combat unit who can use a variety of weapons leftover from outfitting your more potent units. Should Kreiss get some lucky level ups early on to beat the odds of his average growths, he can grow into a competent, if standard cavalry unit. His perfect availability and strong early game make him reliable, although he is dramatically worse of a unit if Narron is selected, as he is the far superior option for the first Knight Proof in terms of experience accumulation, promotion gains, and overall ability.
