Analysis
This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Arkis is a cavalier who joins in the first chapter alongside fellow cavalier Kreiss. In comparison to Kreiss, Arkis has a noticeable advantage in base speed, but has lower base strength and weapon level. Arkis’ growths focus on speed and luck, so he will have no trouble doubling most enemies, but he has low growths in strength and defense, so dealing damage and taking hits is always a concern for him. Additionally, while his weapon level growth is decent, his horrible base ensures he will be stuck using weak weapons for a while until he has gained several levels, which can be difficult due to his lower damage output. Importantly, he cannot use the javelin with his base weapon level. This leads to him being outclassed by other cavaliers such as Kreiss and Raffin due to their higher damage outputs and durability.
Additionally, Arkis promotes to the statistically weakest Paladin class, the Bronze Paladin, which has unimpressive promotion gains. While it does have the unique niche of being one of only mounted classes to be able to use lances while dismounted, as well as being the only mounted class to have absolutely no stat penalties for dismounting, which can give Arkis a niche as an indoor lance fighter, there are other units who can fulfill this role much better such as Lionel.
In terms of skills, Strong Wind can occasionally instantly kill low-defense enemies to make up for his shaky offense. Continue is a mediocre skill to learn as late as level 25, but it should trigger often enough. Canto comes far too late to ever be practical.
Should the player visit chapter 26b, they will face a conundrum involving Arkis. He will become an enemy unit and attempt to attack into the player's units, and if left untrained can easily die doing this. Training Arkis in the early game to get him the stats to not die instanty from counterattacks can make chapter 26b much easier, as they will no longer have to be worried about disarming or neutralizing him, although it's perfectly possible even with an Arkis who has gained no experience to keep him alive. Alternatively, the player can simply kill Arkis.
Ultimately, Arkis is a fairly weak unit whose role is better filled by others. His supports with Runan, Kreiss, and Estelle are the best reason to use him.
