“ | I know... I was a fool. I was blinded by tradition and family reputation. By the time I realized my error, my wife and children had left me. Since then... I've been living alone in my great mansion, surrounded by countless medals and memories... Alone...for years... | ” | — Tauroneo, to Rolf. |

Tauroneo (Japanese: タウロニオ Tauroneo) is a seasoned general of the Daein army with a big heart. He was once a member of the Great Riders, but defected from his home country during the Mad King's War. In the aftermath of the war, he returned to help rebuild Daein to its former glory.

Analysis
This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Tauroneo is a prepromoted general that joins Ike's group. As a general, he has extremely low mobility and struggles to keep up with mounts, especially with terrain. Due to his high weight, not many units can shove him to compensate for his mobility, but he can in turn shove many other unmounted beorc units. He has good bases in health, strength, and defense; for a physical unit, he also has a respectable resistance base. Defensively he has no significant weaknesses, armor-effective weapons not doing much due to double weapon effectiveness. His base speed is extremely low for his join time and level, so he will not double much nor have much avoid. He has excellent weapon ranks, with access to all swords and lances besides the Vague Katti; most notably, he can use silver forges which let him hit extremely hard despite not doubling. He can also use all 1-2 range lances, so he can have a productive enemy phase.
Tauroneo has excellent growths in strength, skill, and defense, and a decent resistance growth, ensuring he will be a hard-hitting tank. His speed growth is low, and while it can be boosted with the Knight Ward, it is not enough to salvage his low base speed. He is also extremely high-leveled, so despite his other good growths, he will not have much room to take advantage of them.
Resolve makes Tauroneo stand out from many other units, as he is the only character in the game who can use Resolve before the last two chapters of the game. He has the durability and health to safely go under half health, though it can be difficult because it is so high. His speed will also receive a substantial boost, allowing him to double more enemy units, but not most due to his bad base speed. With Resolve, Tauroneo effectively gets a +3 speed boost from a speedwing, which helps a lot, though other characters still make better use of speedwings. Luna is another powerful skill, though it requires removing Resolve from him, so it is not recommended. Tauroneo has a good skill base so Adept helps compensate for his bad speed.
Tauroneo has a thunder affinity which gives him a defense and avoid boost, both useful albeit mostly overkill for him. His only support partners are Rolf and Largo, both with less useful wind affinities. Tauroneo should prioritize supporting Largo as they have similar move and can play similar roles as infantry units, though ultimately Tauroneo's options are very limited.

Analysis
This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Tauroneo is a tier 2 general that is available on Micaiah's team on both parts of chapter 1-6, rejoins in 3-12 and 3-13, then is fully available in part 4 and endgame. His base stats are all around excellent for chapter 1-6, able to double most enemy units and deal heavy damage, and take almost no damage in return besides a single hammer knight. He has excellent weapon ranks, able to use all lances and axes available to him until endgame and having solid 1-2 range options. Path of Radiance Tauroneo cannot cap any stats without stat boosters, so Radiant Dawn Tauroneo would not benefit much outside of support bonuses. When he is next available in part 3, other units on the team will have caught up and he will stand out less. He still will have solid offense and excellent durability. While his mobility is low due to his class, his part 3 chapters are primarily defensive chapters so it does not hurt him much. In particular, he can hold the 3-12 chokepoint alone.
In part 4, Tauroneo will be far underlevelled due to being on Micaiah's team and having extremely low availability. He will need bonus experience and/or an early master crown to keep up. He has good growths in skill, speed, and resistance, and enough strength and defense growth to keep up. Part 4 is where his low mobility hurts the most, because he is forced onto Tibarn's team which has several forests and a swamp chapter. Tauroneo generally performs poorly on endgame, having an extremely low speed cap and resistance cap and low mobility.
Tauroneo has innate Resolve which is an excellent skill, but generally overkill in part 1. Due to his availability, it is recommended to remove Resolve from him and give it to another Dawn Brigade unit that is present for the rest of part 1. It is not recommended to give Tauroneo any skills until part 3, again due to availability. Come part 3 and 4, skills like Adept take advantage of his decent speed for midgame and help him offensively.
Tauroneo has a thunder affinity which gives a defense and avoid boost. This is mostly overkill for him until part 4, and his availability makes it difficult to find a partner for him even in Micaiah's team. Other Part 1 units that appreciate the defense boost and have affinities with their own defense/avoid boost are ideal, including Jill, Nolan, and Zihark, though these units all have better options. Tauroneo is generally best left without a partner until part 4.

“ | ...In my father’s time, there was a man who was one of the Four Steadfast Riders. That man grew old and useless, and retired from the front lines. How does his story end, you ask? Come, let us write it together. Oh, my king... In all of Daein’s history, perhaps no other ruler has used the talents at his command to the degree you have... But all the same, no other king has chosen a path so incredibly stupid. [...] ...Now that I’ve confronted you and traded words with you, I have come to a decision. Throughout Daein, I, Tauroneo, will be known as the king killer. Come! Let me earn my name! | ” | — Tauroneo, when fighting Ashnard in the endgame of Path of Radiance. |
---|
“ | General Ike, of the apostle’s army! I challenge you to a duel! [...] I see so much of him in you... your stance, your spirit, the expression on your face... You remind me so much of Gawain. Let’s see if your swordsmanship matches your father’s! | ” | — Tauroneo, when fighting Ike in part 3 endgame of Radiant Dawn. |
---|
“ | Rolf? Is that you? How you’ve grown. Kids always grow up so fast. [...] You’re right, Rolf. Daein can’t win. In most ways, we’ve already lost everything. But I must fight on. Show me what you’ve learned in the last three years. | ” | — Tauroneo, when fighting Rolf in part 3 endgame of Radiant Dawn. |

“ | Is that you, Calill? You look well! I heard you married Largo and opened a pub. How is Largo these days? [...] Oh! Well, uh, I’m sorry to hear that. [...] Indeed. I’m glad you two are happy. [...] Wh-what do you mean– [...] You have an interesting way of making your point. | ” | — Tauroneo, when fighting Calill in part 3 endgame of Radiant Dawn. |
---|
“ | Taking a break on the battlefield? Things don’t seem to rattle you, Ilyana. [...] I should’ve known. Let’s get this over with so you can get back and have something to eat. [...] I hope so as well, Ilyana. We’ll have to see what happens. | ” | — Tauroneo, when fighting Ilyana in part 3 endgame of Radiant Dawn. |
---|
“ | What a strange twist of fate that we would end up facing off against one another. [...] Daein owes you, Zihark. Your efforts liberated our country. For that, you will always have our thanks. However, Daein cannot retreat from this war. We may face old friends as our enemies, but we cannot stop. [...] I will not apologize for this war, and I cannot explain it to you. You should do what you must. We are two soldiers now, facing off against each other on the battlefield. | ” | — Tauroneo, when fighting Zihark in part 3 endgame of Radiant Dawn. |
---|
“ | Jill... [...] How tragic that we meet again as enemies. It was hard enough for me the first time. [...] Raise your head. Stand tall. [...] If you haven’t done anything to disgrace your family’s name, do not cast your eyes away from anyone. [...] I know Jill. I’m envious of you. But this is the only way it can end. | ” | — Tauroneo, when fighting Jill in part 3 endgame of Radiant Dawn. |
---|
“ | Ah, so we meet again. I won’t have mercy on you! | ” | — Tauroneo, when fighting any other character that appeared in Path of Radiance in part 3 endgame of Radiant Dawn. |
