Tap Battle

Tap Battle (Japanese: タップバトル Tap Battle) is a game mode in Fire Emblem Heroes first made available on February 9, 2018. A departure from the game's standard means of battle, Tap Battle plays as a rhythm game where players fight enemies by tapping a certain area of the screen in time with the music.
To date, there have been two variations of Tap Battle, "Illusory Dungeon" and "Delusory Dungeon"; these variations are typically denoted as supertitles to the names of each individual event.
Overview
Illusory Dungeon
During an "Illusory Dungeon" Tap Battle event, players take on 100-floor dungeons in groups of five floors called stages, with a boss at the end of every fourth stage (20 floors). On the first day of an event, only eight stages (40 floors) are available, with an additional four stages (20 floors) becoming available each of the next three days until all 100 floors are available on the fourth day of the event. Starting from the fourth Tap Battle event, Illusory Dungeon: Sanctuary of the Mages, extra stages start to become available after the regular stage selection finishes its initial availability, with one Extra Stage added per day until all associated with the event become available.
If a foe reaches a character, one heart's worth of health is lost; the stage is failed if all hearts are lost. The stage is cleared once the last foe leaves the stage with health still remaining. Ordinary adversaries are defeated with a single tap; bosses require multiple taps in order to drain their health meter, can jump between rows in between their attack attempts, and are defeated once their health meter is fully drained. Players earn a combo score based on how many enemies they defeat without missing, which is used to calculate their rank at the end of the stage (from C to S, with an S rank only being earned for achieving a perfect score).
Players start a run of a dungeon with three hearts worth of health. Each boss defeated in the regulation set of stages adds one additional heart worth of initial health to their own health meter, up to a maximum of eight hearts.
Delusory Dungeon
"Delusory Dungeon" Tap Battle events are similar to "Illusory Dungeon" in many respects, but the dungeons are far shorter (a single stage of five floors, no Extra Stages) with a boss at its end, and players start with the maximum eight hearts.
Gameplay modes
Both current variations of Tap Battle can be taken on in two difficulties, Normal and Hard, and two control modes, Casual and Expert, which can be mixed and matched; all rewards earned in this mode can be earned regardless of difficulty and control mode, meaning one player can play Normal Casual and another can player Hard Expert and both get the same rewards. In addition to the regular rewards available for simply clearing the stages, there are often additional quests available during the duration of a Tap Battle event that offer additional rewards that aren't specifically tied to a single stage.
Successfully tapping the designated area of the screen with an enemy positioned perfectly allows players to instantly defeat any foe that enters that area, and the more consecutive foes that are successfully tapped, the higher the player's combo grows. In Casual Mode, players tap a designated button on the bottom of the screen and the character on the row with the closest enemy will attack; in Expert Mode, players tap the individual lanes for the character on that row to attack.

"Delusory Dungeon" events distribute ×1000 for completing its stage.
In addition, anytime floors 96–100 of an "Illusory Dungeon" dungeon are beaten in the first four dungeons and again in the ninth dungeon onward, as well as in the one "Delusory Dungeon" dungeon held to date, the team sent into that battle will discover a hot spring and relax in it; the actual design of the hot spring is different in the eleventh, twelfth, and eighteenth dungeons due to a general change in the dungeon's backdrop for those events. The fifth through eighth "Illusory Dungeon" dungeons change this to a scene at a summer ocean.

Trivia
- Text found in the game assets from version 2.2.0 associated with the mode's music included names associated with every game in the main Fire Emblem series commercially available at the time as well as Warriors and Heroes itself; text for Three Houses and Tokyo Mirage Sessions ♯FE Encore was added in later versions. As of the nineteenth Tap Battle, fifteen of the nineteen games for which text has been allocated have been represented in Tap Battle music selections; Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light, Gaiden, Mystery of the Emblem, and Thracia 776 each have Tap Battle-related text, but have no songs attributed to them.
- "Fire Emblem: Three Houses Main Theme" is the only song with variable BPM—played at 89, 184, and 178 BPM in various stages—whereas all other songs use only one BPM setting; at the time of its introduction, this made it both the fastest and slowest song in Tap Battle, though "Winds of Askr" from Illusory Dungeon: Driven to Madness, at 225 BPM, has since become the fastest song.
- As the "Illusory Dungeon" variation was the mode's only variation for more than three years, some sources have mistaken "Illusory Dungeon" to be part of the name of the mode itself, rendering the name of the mode as "Tap Battle: Illusory Dungeon" in the process; the game itself has never supported that interpretation, using the terms "Tap Battle" and "Illusory Dungeon" apart in various places.
