Sumeragi (Japanese: スメラギ Sumeragi) was the former King of Hoshido in Fire Emblem Fates.
He met his end after being tricked by Garon. He met up with the Nohrian king and some of his army thinking he was there to form a peace treaty, but instead, he was brutally killed. His step-child, the Avatar, was then taken and raised in a secluded fortress in Nohr.

Sumeragi was once the king of Hoshido; however, he is killed by Garon prior to the game's events, and his step-child, the avatar, is taken. Sumeragi was revived by Anankos and used as a pawn.
Sumeragi took the avatar's sword Ganglari and used it to shatter Hoshido's protective barrier, killing Mikoto. Sumeragi is the boss of Chapter 5.
In the Birthright route, Sumeragi appears again very briefly in Chapter 11, appearing on the Avatar's ship, calling in reinforcements of Vallite soldiers to attack the army during a storm to hopefully sink the ship with the Avatar's army on. At the end of the chapter, everyone assumes that everything is fine, until Sumeragi appears once more trying to kill Takumi while he's unguarded. Zola jumps and takes the blow, although not dying from the attack, and tells Takumi to attack while Sumeragi has his guard let down. Blocking the attack, Sumeragi retreats from the boat, although the army believe Takumi killed the Vallite soldier, and then Sakura heals Zola's wounds, forgetting about Sumeragi's disappearance. Sumeragi is never seen again throughout the playthrough, nor is revealed to be Sumeragi.
Sumeragi is never shown at all throughout the playthrough if the Avatar chooses the Conquest route.
In the Revelation route, Sumeragi appears within Valla and fights the avatar's army as the boss of Chapter 25. He is defeated, and in his last moments, Anankos no longer has control over him. He tells his children how proud he is of them, and apologizes to the avatar that he could not protect him/her. He tells the avatar of how he and Mikoto met, and then dies once more.
