Sumeragi (Japanese: スメラギ Sumeragi) was the former King of Hoshido in Fire Emblem Fates.
He met his end after being tricked by Garon. He met up with the Nohrian king and some of his army thinking he was there to form a peace treaty, but instead, he was brutally killed. His step-child, Corrin, was then taken and raised in a secluded fortress in Nohr.

Role

Sumeragi was once the king of Hoshido; however, he is killed by Garon prior to the game's events, and his step-child, Corrin, is taken. Sumeragi was revived by Anankos and used as a pawn.
During the events of chapter 5 Sumeragi takes Corrin's sword Ganglari and used it to shatter Hoshido's protective barrier, killing Mikoto and several bystanders in the process. Sumeragi is the boss of chapter 5, though his identity is not revealed at this time due to wearing obscuring clothing.
Birthright
In the Birthright route, Sumeragi appears again very briefly in Chapter 11, still cloaked.
On Corrin's ship, he calls Vallite soldiers to attack during a storm, their goal to sink Corrin's ship. At the end of the chapter, everyone lets their guard down, thinking the threat is gone. Sumeragi appears once more trying to kill Takumi while he's vulnerable. Zola jumps and takes the blow, not dying from the attack, and tells Takumi to attack while Sumeragi is distracted. Blocking Takumi's counterattack, Sumeragi retreats from the boat, although the army believe him to be dead. Sumeragi is never seen again throughout the playthrough, his identity as Sumeragi is also never revealed in Birthright.
Conquest
Sumeragi makes no appearances in Conquest.
Revelation
In the Revelation route, Sumeragi appears within Valla and fights Corrin's army as the boss of Chapter 25. He is defeated, and in his last moments, is free of Anankos. He tells his children how proud he is of them, and apologizes to Corrin that he could not protect him/her. He tells Corrin of how he and Mikoto met, and then dies for the last time.
