Appearance(s)

Engage

The Somniel (pronounced /ˈsɑmniˌɛl/[key], Japanese: ソラネル Solanel) is an island floating above Lythos, and Alear's main base of operations, in Fire Emblem Engage. After every chapter, from Chapter 3 onward, with few exceptions, the player can return to the Somniel, where they can interact with their allies and ready themselves for the next chapter, after which they can return to the World Map at any time. The Somniel is unavailable during Chapter 11 and Chapter 22.

The Somniel is an out-of-battle management feature that combines elements from prior out-of-battle options such as My Castle in Fates and the Garreg Mach Monastery from Three Houses. While on the Somniel, the player can freely roam around in a 3D environment where they can interact with the current members of their army, who will be standing around in various positions, and manning a few of the activities found there.

Story

Main Story

The Somniel shrouded in darkness after Sombron opens the portal to other worlds

After the Prologue, Alear awakens on the Somniel after having slept for 1,000 years. They are met by their stewards, Clanne, Framme, and Vander, and promptly makes their way toward Lythos Castle.

Later on Alear gains the ability to teleport themself, and their allies, to and from the Somniel.

The Somniel is unavailable during Chapter 11 and Chapter 22 due to Alear being engaged in battle. The final chapter must be accessed from the balcony of the Somniel instead of being a location on the world map.

Fell Xenologue

Before the events of the Fell Xenologue, the Somniel fell into the sea near southern Lythos, as the death of the parallel Alear weakened the magic keeping it afloat. Before the parallel Alear's passing, they sealed away the Bracelet of the Three Houses on the Somniel, behind an unbreakable barrier to prevent Sombron's forces from using it. During Chapter 6 of the Fell Xenologue, Rafal forces Alear to open the barrier for him, before transforming into a Fell Dragon, and the final battle of the Xenologue commences. In order to free Rafal from his quest, Nel kills herself. This causes Rafal to spend 1,000 years pouring his energy into Nel in order to revive her as atonement for his crimes. After 1,000 years pass, Rafal and the newly revived Nel join Alear and their allies on the regular Somniel.

Gameplay

Time

The Somniel can be set to four different times of day: Is ns02 morning.pngmorning, Is ns02 day.pngafternoon, Is ns02 evening.pngevening, and Is ns02 night.pngnight. After a battle or resting in My Room, the time of day will advance to the next state. The Fortune-Teller will only be open during the night, different fish can be caught at different times of day, and time passing will move the player's allies to different locations on the Somniel.

Resources

This section has been marked as a stub. Please help improve the page by adding information.

Resources are various items that can be collected within the Somniel and the free-roaming sections after each battle. They have a fixed chance of spawning at specific locations. Resources range from food, which can be used when cooking and when interacting with Sommie, and metal ingots, which can be used to forge weapons or purchase outfits.

The Somniel also uses Bond Fragments as a currency. They can be used to increase the bond between an Emblem and a unit in the arena, create Bond Rings, or engrave weapons at the smithy.

My Room

My room is located on the second story of the Somniel, and is available as soon as you gain access to the Somniel after Chapter 3. In My Room the player will have access to a bed where they can rest. While resting, time will pass to the next stage on the Somniel, and, once per battle, a wake-up event will occur. For a wake-up event to occur, Alear needs to have earned a support rank with the unit waking them up. There are 2 wake-up events per unit for each level of support they have with Alear. At the bed, the player is also able to lower the difficulty of their game, re-watch any story cut-scene, Support Conversations, Bond Conversations, or Wake-up Events, as well as listen to any music they have already unlocked during that playthrough.

Next to the bed is a dresser where a memento from whoever Alear chooses to give the Pact Ring can be found. This serves no in-game function.

In My Room the player will also find a piano where they will be able to re-watch the credits once they have beaten Chapter 26.

Ring Chamber

The Ring Chamber is unlocked after Chapter 4. It allows the player to check their Emblem Rings, inherit skills, create Bond Rings, polish their rings, and augment their engage weapons. The Ring Chamber has 12 pedestals, where the main game Emblem Rings are stored, as well as 7 altars for the DLC bracelets.

To inherit a skill from an Emblem, the unit must have the required amount of skill points, and at least a lv.5 bond with the Emblem.

The player can also create Bond Rings for 100 Bond Fragments per ring, with the ability to create 10 at once for 1,000. Bond Rings will increase the stats of the unit who equipped it, as well as occasionally give the wielder unique skills. Bond Rings come in 4 different tiers: C, B, A, and S. The higher the tier, the more stats the ring will increase. If the player has two identical rings of rank C, they can meld them together into a singular B rank ring. This process requires three identical B rank rings to make an A rank, and four A rank rings to make an S rank. This will cost 100 Bond Fragments from C to B, 1,000 from B to A, and 10,000 from A to S. Wearing a Bond Ring allows the unit to earn SP just like wearing an Emblem Ring.

The player can also improve the stats of their engage weapons by expending crystals. To augment a weapon, the weapon needs available slots. The amount of weapon slots available for the player to augment is initially set at 0, and will increase by 1 for each level 10 bond support the weapon's Emblem has with the player's units. The possible augmentations are: +Might, +Hit, +Avoid, +Crit, +Dodge, +Dex, +Spd, +Def, +Res, and +Effective Damage. The more an emblem weapon is augmented, the more crystals the augmentation will cost, differing dependent on the weapon.

The player can also polish their Emblem Rings and Bracelets, which will increase the bond between the Emblem and the unit polishing.

Armory

Main article: Armory

The Armory is run by Durthon and is unlocked after completing Chapter 4. The armory allows the player to buy weapons or sell unwanted items as they please.

The stock in the Armory is cumulative, which means that more items are added rather than the stock being set to a specific amount. For example, if the player has purchased the Javelin before beating Chapter 8, the armory will now have 2 Javelins in stock, rather than the 3 the table indicates.

In update 1.3.0, if Durthon is spoken to past Chapter 6, he will send the player to the Ancient Well, where they will receive the weapons Représailles and Revanche. This will also unlock the well.

Item Shop

Main article: Item shop

Like the Armory, the Item Shop is unlocked after beating Chapter 4. It is run by Anisse. The Item Shop allows the player to buy consumables, staves, and class change items, or lets them sell unwanted items.

The stock in the Item Shop is cumulative, like in the Armory, which means that more items are added rather than the stock being set to a certain amount. For example, if the player has purchased the Antitoxin before beating Chapter 8, the armory will now have 2 Antitoxins in stock, rather than the 3 the table indicates.

The Smithy is unlocked upon completing Chapter 5, after which the player can forge their weapons in exchange for gold, as well as iron, steel, and silver ingots. The Smithy is run by Calney.

The Smithy can also engrave weapons with which improve the stats of the engraved weapon. Each engrave can only be applied to one weapon at a time. Engraving costs Bond Fragments.

The Boutique is unlocked after completing Chapter 5 and is run by Pinet. Here the player can buy and change outfits and accessories for their units to wear while in the Somniel. Outfits and accessories provide no gameplay bonuses and are purely cosmetic. They can be bought for gold, as well as iron, steel, and silver ingots.

Arena

Main article: Arena

This section has been marked as a stub. Please help improve the page by adding information.

An arena battle between Céline and Diamant.

The arena becomes available upon completing Chapter 5. In the arena, the player can have a unit battle a random member of their army up to 3 times per chapter to gain experience. The units who battle each other will also gain support with each other. Unlike in some other games in the franchise, units who lose in the arena will not die.

The player can also spend Bond Fragments in order to increase the bond between their Emblems and allies. The price for increasing their bonds are detailed in the table below:

Bond Level Cost per Level Total Cost
1 100 --
2 100
3 200

As of the 1.3.0 update, it is also possible to inherit skills at the arena.

Sommie Shrine

This section has been marked as a stub. Please help improve the page by adding information.

At the Sommie Shrine, the player will find Sommie after completing Chapter 4. Sommie can be interacted with, which will grant the player Bond Fragments. When pet and fed, the bond between Sommie and Alear will increase. When Sommie's bond is high enough, it will follow the player around the Somniel and help them in minigames. Winning the minigames will also increase their bond level, but failing will lower it.

When feeding Sommie, the player will gain different amount of bond depending on if Sommie likes the specific food.

As Sommie's bond increases, more items will spawn on the Somniel. One Spirit Gem at bond rank 30+, another at bond rank 60+, and a rare vegatable, fruit, or fish, at rank 80+.

The first time the player interacts with Sommie, they will be asked to name it. They are also able to dress it up, which will increase their bond slightly.

Bulletin Board

Main articles: Achievements and Donation

At the Bulletin Board the player can donate to the nations of Elyos, in order to gain items, equipment, resources, and outfits, and they can collect Bond Fragments for completing Achievements.

Music Box

At the Music Box, the player can change the music that plays on the Somniel. 5 Tracks are available, which are unlocked during the story.

Café Terrace

This section has been marked as a stub. Please help improve the page by adding information.

Artwork of Café Terrace created for the game's soundtrack album.

At Café Terrace, the player can have one of their units cook for them and two other units of their choosing. The unit cooking is chosen at random. Cooking a meal will grant the player's entire army a stat boost, as well as a random boost based on the unit cooking's proficiencies. Depending on the unit cooking, the dish may achieve a unique title, which will vary from G tier to SS tier. Unique titles are the only way to raise a meal's quality above D tier. The amount of extra ingredients used, along with the proficiency of the unit cooking, will increase the chances of getting a unique title, as illustrated by the tables below. Adding a special ingredient does not affect the quality of the meal.

Dish Grade Base Chance
Unique Title (SS-G) 55%
Ordinary (D) 35%
Failure (E-G) 10%

Every unit has 5 dishes they specialize in: 1 expert, 1 skilled, 2 capable, and 1 eager. A unit being proficient in a specific dish is represented by sparkles next to the dish in the cooking menu.

Proficiency Chance for Unique Titles

Skilled +15% −10% −5%
Capable +3% +2% −5%

2 +6% −3% −3%
1 +3% −1% −2%

Every unit has 3 different unique titles they can obtain through cooking. The stat bonuses obtained through unique titles are added to the bonuses granted by the base meal. This makes it possible for the dish to grant a negative stat boost. Some stat-bonuses granted by unique titles may only apply to characters of a specific gender, age, or nationality. Adult characters are counted as those aged 20 or above, while children are aged 19 or under.

The two units the player chooses to dine with will gain support with the player and with each each other, if the quality of the dish is at least D. If a special ingredient is added, the units eating will gain more support with each other. If the unit dining likes the food, or is neutral towards it, they will also gain more support points. A unit disliking a meal will not penalize the stat boost they gain, only affecting support.

If the unit cooking achieves a C rank or higher, the player will receive a packed meal, which serves as a consumable that can be eaten for 20 HP. If a new meal is cooked before the old one is eaten, the old one will be discarded.

The stat bonuses granted by Café Terrace last for one map. The player can only cook once per map.

Stable

After completing Chapter 4, the stable will become available. At the stable, the player can keep up to 5 animals that they have adopted during the free roaming sections after battles. These animals will provide the player with resources depending on the type of animal in the stables.

Some animals can give the player multiple different items. There is an equal chance of getting each item and only one can be received at a time.

Some animals require the player to reach donation level 2 with their respective country in order to adopt. These animals will only appear in their respective countries, except in Divine Paralogues and the Fell Xenologue. The donation level of the Paralogues and Xenologue is regarded as the average donation level of the four Elyosian countries rounded down.

Flea Market

This section has been marked as a stub. Please help improve the page by adding information.

At the flea market the player can buy gifts for their allies, materials for smithing, or new fishing rods for the fishing minigame. More items will become available as the story progresses.

Fortune-Teller

The Fortune-Teller opens after Chapter 15 and is run by Seadall only at night. Here, the player can have the fortune of any of their units read. Doing this will randomly pick one of 24 tarot card outcomes for the unit chosen and one of the unit's current worries along with who the unit is currently thinking of. The outcome of the Fortune-Teller is entirely random. Like the Hubba Tester in Awakening and Fates, it has no effect on gameplay, and only provides randomly generated flavor text.

Tower of Trials

This section has been marked as a stub. Please help improve the page by adding information.

The Tower of Trials is unlocked after beating Chapter 6. There the player can participate in Tempest Trials, Relay Trials and Outrealm Trials to gain in-game rewards.

Tempest Trials

The Tempest Trials are a series of maps that must be completed in a row. This mode becomes available after Chapter 11 with additional maps unlocking after Chapter 13 and Chapter 23.

The rewards for beating a Tempest Trial are Crystals and very rarely Banes used to augment engage weapons, as well as the rare Novice and Adept Books. While experience can be earned on Normal and Hard difficulty, no experience is earned for completing Tempest Trials on Maddening.

Relay Trials

The Relay Trials are maps that the player plays in co-operation with other players, switching control of the army every few turns. To access this mode, you must have an active membership to Nintendo Online, as well as a Relay Ticket. 1 Relay Ticket can be obtained every 24 real time hours, as well as when scanning a Fire Emblem series amiibo that has previously been scanned on a different day.

The rewards for beating a Relay Trial are Crystals, effective weaponry, Master and Second Seals, resources, Presents, and very rarely permanent stat-boosters. The player can also gain Novice, Adept, and Expert Books after beating the main campaign.

Outrealm Trials

Outrealm Trials is a 1v1 PvE multiplayer mode where the player faces up against other players' teams, controlled by a CPU opponent. Two options are available to the player; Quick Battle and Custom Battle. In Quick Battle, the two armies will fight on a randomly chosen preset map, while in Custom Battle the player is able to build their own custom map, where they will face up against the opponents' army on their own custom map.

The rewards for beating an Outrealm Trial are Bond Fragments, Tonics, and Presents. The player can also gain Novice, Adept, and Expert Books after beating the main campaign.

To access Relay Trials and Outrealm Trials the player must have an active membership to Nintendo Online.

Records Hall

The Records Hall unlocks after Chapter 6. Here the player can view and edit their profile card, as well as see the cards of other players the player has faced in the Tower of Trials. Stamps are unlocked as the player proceeds through the story, the Fell Xenologue and the DLC paralogues.

amiibo Gazebo

The amiibo Gazebo returns from Fire Emblem: Three Houses, where it once again allows the player to utilize their amiibo. Scanning any Fire Emblem character amiibo will give the player a Fashion Ticket and a Music Ticket, which can be used to unlock a unique outfit based on the 12 main Emblems, and a music track from each of the 12 original Emblems' games. The unique outfits can only be worn by Alear, Nel, Rafal, and the eight Elyosian royals, and can only be worn by their respective gender.

If a non-Fire Emblem amiibo is scanned, the player will receive a random item instead. Up to five amiibo can be scanned per day.

Ancient Well

The Ancient Well is a feature added in update 1.3.0 and is unlocked after beating Chapter 6. To unlock it, the player needs to first talk to Durthon at the Armory, then head to the well where they will receive Représailles as well as Revanche. The Ancient Well allows the player to exchange up to five pieces of unwanted equipment in exchange for a random selection of new items. There are five levels of items that can be obtained depending on the purchasing price of the offered items, as portrayed by the table below:

Level Buying price of items offered
1 Star 0G–999G
2 Star 1,000G–4,999G

4 Star 10,000G–19,999G
5 Star 20,000G+

1 Star 2 Star 3 Star 4 Star 5 Star

The Well also allows the player to access the Fell Xenologue as well as lower its difficulty. Lowering the difficulty at the Well will not affect the difficulty of the main game.

Stable, Orchard & Pool (support)

The Stable, Orchard and Pool were added with update 1.2.0 and serves as places where the player's units can gain support with each other between battles. Each location can only be used once per battle. The location are functionally the same, and only differ visually.

Minigames

The Somniel also has minigames that can be played for in-game rewards.

Strength Training

Strength Training is hosted by Alfred and manned by any Firenese royal or retainer. Strength training allows Alear's stats to temporarily increase for one battle, along with a few Bond Fragments, if completed successfully. Higher difficulties grant bigger stat bonuses. There are three different categories of training:

Push-Ups: Grants increased strength. The player will have to time a button-press to a rhythm. The amount of times the button has to be pressed increases with difficulty. If the player misses three button inputs, they fail the minigame.

Sit-Ups: Grants increased maximum HP. The player will have to mash the A button in order to fill a gauge. The amount of times the gauge has to be filled increases with difficulty. The player cannot miss even once, otherwise they will fail.

Squats: Grants increased dexterity. The player will have to point the control sticks in the directions indicated by the arrows on screen. The amount of inputs increase with difficulty. The player has 3 strikes before failing.

If assisted by Sommie, the player is allowed to have more misses before failing.

Fishing

This section has been marked as a stub. Please help improve the page by adding information.

Fishing is hosted by Diamant and manned by any Brodian royal or retainer. Fishing allows the player to fish, which will reward them with fish and Bond Fragments. Dependant on the time of day, different fish will be available to catch. The available fish will also vary based on the rod used, and where in the pond the line is cast. Once a fish is hooked, the player must mash the A button in order to reel it in, while pulling back the left thumbstick. If the fish stays near the top edge for too long, it will escape. The player can fish a maximum of 3 times between battles.

If assisted by Sommie, the fish's stamina will start cut in half.

Wyvern Ride

This section has been marked as a stub. Please help improve the page by adding information.

Wyvern Ride is hosted by Ivy and manned by any Elyosian royal or retainer. Wyvern Ride sees the player in an on-rails shooter-like game where they must shoot floating targets to get a high-score. Increasing the difficulty of the minigame will change the layout of the course. Beating the minigame will reward the player with Bond Fragments as well as consumable items.

If assisted by Sommie, it will help shoot targets.
