The Soldier (Japanese: ソルジャー Soldier) is a basic lance-wielding infantry class which debuted in Fire Emblem Gaiden, and is present in all Fire Emblem series games except Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light, Genealogy of the Holy War, and Fates. In the majority of games Soldiers are an enemy- or NPC-only class, and the class is playable only in Gaiden, Path of Radiance, Radiant Dawn, and Echoes: Shadows of Valentia.

When not a playable class, Soldiers are usually characterized as lowly and generic soldiers with no notable abilities, and so enemy Soldiers are typically weak and incompetent compared to other enemy units. They possess lower than average stats in every respect and, while easy to defeat, derive much of their strength from the sheer number of them often deployed. When a playable class, however, Soldiers are competent units on par with their infantry counterpart classes, the Myrmidon and Fighter, and tend toward possessing higher defensive stats in exchange for speed.

In Gaiden and Shadows of Valentia, the Soldier promotes to the Knight, which in turn promotes to Baron. In Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn, the Soldier gains a new promoted form, the Halberdier, which in turn promotes to Sentinel in Radiant Dawn.

In Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem, Soldiers tended to replace enemy Cavaliers, and Paladins from in Mystery's version of indoor chapters from the original Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light.

In Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War, the Soldier is an unused class, which also has four variants alongside it, which are also unused: Sword Soldier, Spear Soldier, Axe Soldier, and Archer.

In Fire Emblem Fates, the Spear Fighter and Lancer classes appear to draw inspiration from Soldiers.
