Shops are a special kind of terrain, specifically buildings, found on both the world map and battle maps, that when walked on, allow units to buy or sell items such as Vulnerary and weapons such as Iron Sword.

Shops appear in 15 of the 17 games of the Fire Emblem series, the exceptions being Gaiden and its remake; Echoes: Shadows of Valentia, where only forges appear inside certains villages.

From Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light to The Sacred Stones as well as Shadow Dragon and New Mystery of the Emblem, shops are found on the maps of certain chapters, selling various items. In The Binding Blade, The Blazing Blade, The Sacred Stones, Shadow Dragon, and New Mystery of the Emblem, shops with a restricted amount of items are accessible through the preparations menu. Access to the regular shops during preparations phase is also present in Three Houses without any restrictions toward the purchasable items present. In The Sacred Stones and Awakening, shops can also be accessed on the world map.

Armory

Armories are shops specialized in selling physical weapons, like swords or lances. Although, in Path of Radiance, Radiant Dawn, and Fates, armories also sell tomes; in Awakening, armories also sell items generally found in vendors shops like staves or elixir.

Vendor

Main article: Vendor

Vendors are shops specialized in selling ordinary items (mostly healing items and keys) and magical artefacts such as magic tomes and staves. They are the counterpart to the physical weapon-selling armories.

Secret shop

Main article: Secret shop

Secret shops are a rare type of shop which specialize in selling rare and expensive weapons and items, appearing in 8 of the 17 games of the Fire Emblem series. Secret shops are typically the only place in a game where the player will find rare items like stat-boosters or class change items being freely sold, and are the only alternative to relying on receiving them from villages or treasure chests.

Forge

Main article: Forge

The forge is a shop service introduced in Path of Radiance, which allows to customize and improve weapons. Although they are often very expensive, forging a weapon provides it with substantial increases to its stats. Forged weapons can be given a unique name by the player.

Bargains

Main article: Bargains

The bargains service is a special shopping option present in Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn. It is one of the three categories of item sold at Aimee's shop in the base, where she sells rare items which the player cannot otherwise buy at that point in the game, similar to the secret shops of earlier games.

Online shop

The online shop is a feature of the two Nintendo DS installments of the Fire Emblem series, Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and Fire Emblem: New Mystery of the Emblem, which made use of the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection online service. Functionally an armory and thus run by an Armorer, the online shop offered a wide assortment of items, including several not typically available in the in-game shops.

Merchant

The merchant is a type of bonus shop which appears in Fire Emblem Awakening. Merchants take on two forms that work in similar ways, both appearing on various locations on the world map. Both provide the temporary ability to purchase rare items which otherwise are not available at that location's armory.

Genealogy of the Holy War

In Genealogy of the Holy War, shopping is accessed through the castle town. The castle contains four differents shops: the Weapon repair, the Pawn shop, the Item storage and the Vendor. The vendor also act as both the armory and vendor of other games and has only one of each item in stock and further instances cannot be bought from that shop, unless they explicitly list a multiple instance of a given item as available.

Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn

In Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn, shops are part of the merchant caravan and are accessed through the base. Radiant Dawn adds the bargains section to Aimee's shop. The stock available vary depending of the current chapter being played with more items becoming available as the player progresses through the game. Unlike in other games, the player can't directly sell items through the armory or the vendor and instead, it is handled through Jorge's antiques service.

Fates

Main article: My Castle

In Fire Emblem Fates, shops are constructed and accessed in My Castle. There are four types of shops: the Hoshidan Dawn Armory, the Nohrian Dusk Armory, the Hoshidan Rod Shop, and the Nohrian Staff Store. Their availability depends on the campaign being played, with the Dawn Armory and Rod Shop only being available in the Birthright and Revelation campaigns while the Dusk Armory and Staff Shop are only being available in Conquest and Revelation. Players are also able to visit other players' My Castles and buy from their armories, including the one they do not have.

The Dawn Armory sells Hoshidan weapons like katana or shurikens while the Dusk Armory sells Nohrian weapons like swords and daggers. In contrast, the Rod Shop sells Hoshidan rods, the Staff Store sells Nohrian staves, and both also sell common items and stones. Once they have been constructed, they can each be upgraded to allow them to sell more powerful weapons or items to the player in greater quantities. Certain weapons and items are sold in strictly limited quantities per level.

Three Houses

In Fire Emblem: Three Houses, shops are accessed through either the Day-Off preparations menu through the Market, inside the Garreg Mach Monastery or during preparations.
