Shards and Crystals are two related types of items appearing exclusively in Fire Emblem Heroes. Shards and crystals are used to raise the level of characters, with shards being used at lower levels and crystals being used at higher levels. Shards and crystals are primarily won by clearing a stratum of the Training Tower, and any yields of crystals (but not shards) won can be boosted by the Live for Bounty skill.

Shards and crystals each come in five colors (Scarlet, Azure, Verdant, Transparent, Universal). Each color aside from Universal works on wielders of a specific color of weapon skills (i.e. an Azure Crystal can be used on a lance, blue tome, or blue breath wielder), while the Universal varieties work on any character regardless of their weapon skill color.
