It has been proposed that this page be split into Shaman and Light Priestess. Please discuss this change on the talk page or on Discord.

Reason: "[Genealogy Shaman has] the same Japanese name and the class more closely fits the description of the Radiant Dawn incarnation. I [ArthurThomas (TalkContributions)] feel like both of the classes that use light magic and staves would be more appropriate sharing a page since they're all the same Japanese name."

The Shaman (Japanese: シャーマン Shaman) is a magical class which was introduced in Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War. In their original appearance, Shamans are a female-exclusive class which wields light magic and staves. While they are very frail, they possess the high magic and resistance of traditional healers, giving them good healing proficiency as well as the ability to defend themselves, particularly with Nosferatu. Aside from Deirdre, who is unable to promote, Shamans promote to the Sage class. While Shamans do not technically exist in the following game, Fire Emblem: Thracia 776, that game has the virtually identical Cleric class.

The shaman reappears in the Game Boy Advance games, where it is an offensive magical class available to any gender which only wields dark magic. These Shamans are a precursor to the modern Dark Mage class and, like Dark Mages, are a stark contrast to the nimble Mages: they have fearsome magical offense further enhanced by the raw power of dark tomes, but in exchange they have low base speed and are weighed down even more by their heavy tomes. Their defenses are also slightly better than those of ordinary Mages, but are still mediocre which, combined with how easy it is to double-attack Shamans, leaves them better equipped to attack at range from behind the front lines. Shamans promote to the Druid class, and in The Sacred Stones, they also have the option to promote to Summoner instead.
