Sakura (Japanese: 白夜王女サクラ White Night Princess Sakura) is the twenty-second chapter of the Conquest campaign in Fire Emblem Fates. In this chapter, Corrin and his/her army arrive at Fort Jinya, a strategic location, in order to claim it in the name of Nohr, in the process having to deal with having to face off against Sakura, Corrin's (apparent) younger birth sister.
Plot
- Main article: Sakura (chapter)/Script
At the top of a hill facing Fort Jinya, we cut to Corrin, Azura, Xander, Camilla, Leo, and Elise arriving; Azura reveals that they're at Fort Jinya, a location that's essentially the front line of Hoshido rumored to be impregnable, its seizure tantamount to conquering Hoshido, vowing that they must not fail. Corrin states that the task naturally isn't easy, to which Azura states that they may have to face off against people they know; Corrin states that he/she is ready, having made it this far in order to bring peace to these war-torn lands no matter who gets lost or hurt, to which Azura states that they shouldn't regret what's to come even if it means facing off whom she grew up knowing as her siblings and vows to follow Corrin to the end. Corrin states that Azura's support gives him/her strength, and that there's no reason to postpone things any longer; Corrin states that the soldiers inside have probably already realized they've arrived, and that they should get the first strike.
Cutting to inside Fort Jinya, Yukimura asks Sakura to escape, to which Sakura notices Yukimura out of breath; Yukimura demands Sakura stop healing the soldiers and retreat and reveals Corrin's army's arrival, to which Sakura states that she'll join the fight. Yukimura continues to attempt to persuade Sakura into retreating, but Sakura states that she's no longer a powerless princess and will fight for her kingdom, refusing to leave the soldiers behind to die for her sake; Yukimura states that he'll allow Sakura what she wants against his better judgement and Ryoma's wishes, but only if he arranges for her protection so they can fight together, to which Sakura accepts. Battle preparations take place at this point; the battle begins once preparations are finished.
Once the battle ends, Xander addresses the Hoshidan army and reveals that Fort Jinya now belongs to Nohr and that fighting back is futile, and that throwing down their weapons and surrendering will assure their survival; Yukimura tells Sakura that the remaining forces are in no shape to resist and thus surrendering is their best option, to which Sakura starts breaking down and crying, prompting Yukimura to state that she fought bravely and that he's proud of what she, Hana, and Subaki did in the battle. As Hana and Subaki cry over their failure, Yukimura reveals that their cause will survive along with them and that it's time to surrender and end the bloodshed; Xander repeats his earlier address to the Hoshidans, to which Yukimura states that they heard him the first time, to which Xander states they should have responded sooner lest their silence be mistaken for cowardice or that they wish to fight the inevitable. Yukimura states that the Hoshidans do indeed wish to surrender on the condition that Sakura is spared, to which Xander tells Yukimura that he made the right choice and that Mikoto would have been proud; Xander states that he promises Sakura and the soldiers will all be spared and orders his soldiers to bind the prisoners but not harm them. As the soldiers prepare to perform that task, Corrin asks Sakura and Yukimura to forgive him/her, that what he/she is doing may seem cruel but it's the only way to end the war once and for all and that some day they'll understand; a weapon strike is heard in the distance followed by a Hoshidan soldier crying out, prompting Corrin to wonder what he/she heard.
We cut over to Hans in the task of killing the unarmed Hoshidan soldiers, with Hans thinking the lack of Hoshidan resistance to be pathetic, to which Corrin asks Hans what he's doing in the area; Yukimura asks Hans what's going on and reveals that they were promised that everyone's lives would be spared upon surrender, while Sakura states that she needs to heal those Hans injured lest they die and asks that her hands be untied, promising not to escape, prompting Iago to come onto the scene and stating he can't do that. Corrin acts surprised at Iago's presence, to which Iago states that Garon will shower him/her with praise for the grand triumph of seizing Fort Jinya; Corrin states that he/she does not care about praise and asks him what the meaning of what Hans is doing, to which Iago states that he and Hans were worried about him/her and came to help, and to leave the messy part to them, stating that Hans is all too eager to put the Hoshidan soldiers out of their misery. Corrin, calling Iago a monster, states that the soldiers already surrendered and that the battle was won, and that he/she will not allow Iago or Hans to take the lives of unarmed soldiers and asks them to stand down at that point, to which Iago deflects talk of the subject while Hans continues killing the Hoshidan soldiers, prompting Sakura to beg Hans to stop and begins crying herself; Corrin and Xander both asks Iago to stop his madness, with Xander stating that he's willing to kill Iago unless Iago stops having the Hoshidan soldiers killed, to which Iago begins protesting. Xander states that he is not known to make light of serious matters, but also refuses to harbor a cruel and spineless general in a proud Nohrian army, and won't hesitate to strike down Iago for Nohr's honor, but a surprise arrival tells Xander not to do so and to stand down; Garon is revealed to have arrived on the scene and states that he won't allow anyone, even Xander, to disobey him, prompting Corrin to attempt to reason but Garon stops him/her and states that his orders have been given and that anyone who disobeys dies. Corrin and Xander stand down, to which Garon states should be the end of their disobedience; Yukimura curses out the Nohrians while Sakura curses out what happened and the cruelty of the situaton, to which Garon states that Hoshido is as good as conquered and that he's proud of his children, prompting silence from Corrin.
Summary
Corrin's group nears the Hoshidan capital, but they must first conquer Fort Jinya. The real challenge will not come in the form of a battle, however.
