Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

Sakura is the first Shrine Maiden you obtain in both Birthright and Revelations. In Birthright she's available from chapter 5, but in Revelations she'll be unavailable from chapter 6 to the end of chapter 8. She's a typical earlygame healer, with low bulk, but valuble staff utility. She cannot face combat, but can provide useful healing to the rest of the army in the first few chapters as she is the only staff user you have at the start, besides Jakob and Felicia. Sakura start out with two skills Quiet Strength and Miracle. Quiet Strength is a great utility skill as it makes all of the players units significantly bulkier. Miracle is an overly situational skill and will rarely see use as Sakura isn't a frontline unit.

Sakura has high growths in magic, skill, speed and luck, but low or mediocre ones in everything else. As a Shrine Maiden she'll get access to Rally Luck, which is often considered the worst rally as it provides far worse utility than the other rallies. She has the option to either promote to a Onmyoji or a Priestess. Promoting her to a Priestess leaves her relatively the same, though she does exchange some Skill for more HP growths. Sakura gains the ability to wield Yumis on top of her existing ability to heal, though because of her low strength and access to only E rank bows at the start means that she won't be dealing much damage. As such it's recommended to give Sakura two Arms Scrolls in order to give her the ability to wield the Shining Bow. While in the Priestess class she gets access to the skills Renewal and Countermagic. Renewal is mostly useless as Sakura shouldn't be facing combat unless she can dispatch an enemy safely and she won't heal much as she has low HP, Countermagic is equally useless as Sakura has decent resistance and as such won't be dealing much damage back to the magic wielding enemies. Promoting her to Onmyoji gives her extra magic at the cost of some luck and access to scrolls. Because of her great speed and magic Sakura may seem like an offensive powerhouse, but because of the high enemy densitiy in both Birthright and Revelation in combination with her low bulk means that she won't be a very potent combat unit, but will instead deal chip damage to enemies that can't retaliate. While in the Onmyoji class she gets access to Rally Magic and Tomefaire, Rally Magic is an excellent utility skill especially on a unit like Sakura, but tomefaire comes a bit late and at that point you're likely to have other frontline magic users who don't have the durability issues of Sakura

On the subject of reclassing, Sakura has access to the Sky Knight classline, but because of her low strenth and inability to use staves this is considered a suboptimal class for her, as well as the Kinshi Knight class. Luckely Falcon Knights can use staves and as such Falcon Knight is a great class for Sakura as it combines both staff and flying utility. Also while in the Falcon Knight classline Sakura gets access to Rally Speed further improving her utility.

Sakura is put in an unfortunate position in Birthright. Because of her low bulk and high enemy density she can reraly heal without being put into risk, not to mention that because of the low enemy quality most teams don't benefit from healers too much. Another thing worth noting is how Jakob, Felicia and later Azama are all often considered better than her thanks to their higher staff rank and bases. Also notably Sakura joins with E rank staves in Birthright which greately lowers her potential staff utility at base.

Luckely in Revelations Sakura joins at level 4 with D rank in staffs and in Revelations the enemy density is lower, but quality is higher which makes her much useful through the early chapters. Another benefit is that Revelations maps often encourage the use of Dragon Veins which makes Royal characters like Sakura useful on said chapters. Sadly Sakura will still face competition against the many healers of Revelations and can easily fall off compared to them and many useful units like Ryoma or Xander can also use dragon veins anyway.

Overall,Sakura is unusual for a royal character as she manages to rarely find an efficient role and is often considered inferior to units that can do similar things as her with lower investment. As such Sakura breaks the trend of royal characters in Fates being good, by being painfully mediocre overall.

Fire Emblem Heroes

Role

There are three different variations of Sakura available to Heroes, all of which are tied to her storyline appearance in Fates. The normal variation of Sakura is one of the characters available to be summoned by players from the game's initial launch. A Halloween variation of Sakura was made available between the period of October 30, 2017 through November 28, 2017 as part of the summoning event surrounding the launch of the Trick or Defeat! update. A hot spring-themed variation of Sakura was made available between the period of January 23, 2019 through February 23, 2019 as part of the summoning event surrounding the launch of the Hostile Springs update.

The Halloween variation of Sakura is notably the first character in Heroes to have inherent access to three three-tier passive skill trees; previous characters with inherent access to all three passive type slots have had a one-tier skill in their type-B slot.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Sakura makes an appearance in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as an eqiuppable spirit. Her spirit possesses fake versions of Corrin and Isabelle in the World of Light story mode. While equipped to these fighters during that battle, Sakura heals them over time. When equipped to an ally, Sakura grants them immunity to poison.

Trait: Poison Immunity
Grants immunity to poison.

Trivia

  • Sakura's favorite fruit is cherries.
  • In Chapter 22 of Conquest, Sakura knows the skill Voice of Peace. This skill is impossible for Sakura to learn legitimately when under the player's control, as she has no access to the Songstress class.
  • In her her eponymous chapter on Normal difficulty, Sakura is one of only two bow-wielding bosses in the franchise who can neither move nor fight at one range, the other being her nephew Kiragi as the boss of Heirs of Fate IV: Light's Sacrifice.
  • Sakura is the only character to share her name in a chapter where she is not the primary boss of her chapter. (in this case, Yukimura serves as the primary boss of the chapter named for Sakura).
