“ | I no longer have a home to return to. However... there is something that I must do. | ” | — Saias |
---|
Saias (Japanese: サイアス Cyas) is the illegitimate son of Arvis and his lieutenant Aida, the elder half-brother of Prince Julius and Princess Julia of Grannvale, an heir to House Velthomer, and a full-blooded descendent of the Crusader Fjalar[2]. Perceived as a threat to the Loptr Church and its plans after his birth, Aida was murdered by Manfroy of the Loptrians while trying to protect him, and he was raised in secrecy by his grandfather Cohen.
Saias grew up to be a master tactician and, his identity hidden, was eventually appointed Velthomer's court archbishop, a position theorised by Cohen to be able to protect him out of its high status. However, the rise of Julius and the resurgence of the Loptr Church cast this into doubt in spite of the trust and reputation he had among the Grannvale nobility. In time, he came to support and assist Leif's liberation army in the Munster District.

Analysis
This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Saias is one of the bosses in chapters 17A and 22 and is also the second to last unit to join your army in chapter 23 along with Ced, the player can choose to recruit Ced or Saias, but not both. Saias comes with good magic and skill, but poor stats in other areas and his growths are mostly irrelevant this late into to the game. Despite his A rank in light magic and poor magic stat of most enemies in Thracia 776, Saias is not a very good combat unit as he has fairly low speed and bulk making him an unreliable combat unit and Nihil is a largely useless skill because of the fact that Saias will not be seeing much combat. However, Saias' main selling point is not his combat, but his A rank in staves in combination with his high base magic and 3 Action and Authority stars. While 3 Action stars are too unreliable to be incorporated into strategies, 3 Authority stars give your units significant boosts in both hit and avoid. Also the A rank in staves cannot be understated as it allows him to use any staff in the game at base, which will be incredibly useful in the last few chapters of the game. Overall, Saias is an excellent lategame Gotoh-type unit that when used effectively makes the last few chapters of Thracia significantly easier.
In comparison to Ced
Between the two, Ced undoubtedly has better combat, has higher HP which makes it harder for him to get fatigued, and is quite a bit more durable than the other one as well. Another thing worth noting is how Saias' one extra point of magic and additional action star matter little as they both offer nearly exact utility. However the biggest advantage Saias holds are his three authority stars which significantly boost your units and the fact that Saias saves you a turn since it takes you one more turn to finish the chapter if the player desires to recruit Ced. Another aspect is that Ced's combat is largely overkill due the low quality of most enemies in Thracia and you also get Galzus soon who has equally godlike combat as Ced. Overall, Ced is easier to use, but Saias is preferred if the player desires to clear the game in the fewest turns possible.
Fire Emblem Awakening
Saias is playable as a SpotPass character, released in the Thracia 776 character set. He is also present as an enemy in the first and third installments of the Lost Bloodlines DLC series, as well as in all three installments of Rogues & Redeemers.
