The Royal Shield (Japanese: 王家の盾 Royal Family's Shield) is an accessory item in the shield category of equipment that debuted in Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia. It is the target of the sub-quest "A Royal Requiem", where it must be retrieved from powerful Terrors in the Deliverance Hideout, after which point the player can keep it. The Royal Shield offers protection to both defensive stats, and also teaches its wielder the useful Earth's Kiss combat art, allowing the to take even less damage against magical strikes.

History

The Royal Shield was kept in the underground Zofian cemetery south of the castle, along with the remains of former Zofian kings. At some point after the Deliverance adopted the catacombs as their hideout in their war against Desaix, the catacombs were violated and a seal was broken which led to Terrors appearing and taking over. One of them, a Guardian, stole the Royal Shield.

After this happened, an Eerie Hermit appeared in Zofia Castle, claiming to be a man who has always watched over Zofia and its rulers. He requested the assistance of Alm/Celica in defeating the Guardian to allow the Zofian kings to peacefully rest.[1] After Alm/Celica did so, the Eerie Hermit claimed that this was a test of strength that proved them to be worthy of inheriting Zofia, and allowed them to keep and use the Royal Shield as proof of this, then disappeared.[2]

They've broken the seal, and now a massive fiend has made its home there. It sullies the site with its foul presence, barring the fallen kings from slumber. I ask this of you, warrior—rid their holy tomb of this blight!" — The Eerie Hermit, Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia
