Rinea (Japanese: リネア Rinea) is a noblewoman of Rigel, and fiancée of the Rigelian prince, Berkut. She is a new character introduced in Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia, and did not appear in Gaiden.

Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia

Role

Rinea is the fiancée of Berkut. She dearly loves Berkut, and is the one person he trusts unfailingly. She appears a few times throughout the game, always accompanying Berkut.

Before the events of the game, as recounted in a memory prism, the two met at a Rigellian ball. Rinea, having retreated to a courtyard away from the main event, is discovered by Berkut and invited by him to dance. Berkut, noticing Rinea's shyness in dancing around the other nobles, agrees to dancing at their current location away from the festivities.

Rinea first appears with Berkut at Zofia castle, during Act 1, having a dance in the ballroom. Afterwards, Desaix invites Berkut to watch his forces slaughter the Deliverance's forces, but Rinea objects, refusing to make a spectacle of war; Berkut reassures her he was only joking when he said he was considering it. After meeting with Fernand, Berkut reaffirms to Rinea that they will become the Emperor and Empress of Valentia, and Rinea simply states she has no words to express her feelings on the matter. They then depart from Zofia castle, entrusting its defense to Desaix and his gifted Dracoshield.

Rinea continues to accompany Berkut and tries to comfort him while he is still licking his wounds from losing to Alm twice as of Act 4. After Berkut discovers Alm's true identity as heir to the throne of Rigel, his mental state begins to deteriorate. Rinea attempts to comfort him but he belligerently takes her reassurances that Alm will be kind as an implication that she thinks Berkut is weak, and is laughing at him behind his back. When Rudolf rides out to fight Alm ,Berkut, Rinea following, enters Duma Temple and makes a pact with Duma in order to gain enough power to defeat the Deliverance and kill Alm. However, the cost of this pact is Rinea, and she is sacrificed to Duma, being reborn as a Witch and forced to fight Alm's party. Both she and Berkut are defeated and killed in the ensuing battle.

Stats

Uncommonly for boss characters, Rinea has a bond support with Berkut. This grants her +25 to Avoid and Dodge while Berkut is within three tiles of her.

Personality and character

While Rinea is typically fairly soft-spoken, if has an opportunity to talk about something she likes, she will become much more animated and verbose, a trait she is rather ashamed of. She does, however, love to dance, and also enjoys nature and being outdoors.[1] When Nuibaba visited Berkut, she expressed horror at the information that Jedah sacrificed two of his daughters to Duma for power.[2] Her limited appearances in the game do not divulge much else of her personality aside from her love of Berkut and dancing.
