— Riev

Riev (Japanese: アーヴ Irv) is a character in Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones. He was once a bishop of Rausten, but Pontifex Mansel exiled him for worshiping the Demon King. Riev then traveled to Grado, where he quickly became one of the army's Imperial Generals. He appears as a boss twice near the end of the game, but can be recruited as a special character in the Creature Campaign mode.

Creature Campaign Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

While most of the post-game characters are generally superfluous relative to the main campaign army, Riev stands out as a fantastic unit that can make going through the Lagdou Ruins far more comfortable. While his base magic is low, Slayer combined with the fact that all enemies are monster units means he always hits for effective damage, essentially buffing his attack power to absurd levels. In addition, he also has outstanding bulk, surpassing that of all other possible Bishops in the player's army, which allows him to tank attacks in ways the others could only hope to. He starts with S Light, giving him S rank bonuses immediately, and A staves which allows him to use all but Latona, including Warp. Ivaldi is not recommended since its 2x multiplier overrides Slayer's 3x multiplier. His only true weakness is his middling constitution, which can make using the heavier Light tomes very difficult. Even then, he still has enough for plenty of dodging and following up, and more than a few enemies are very slow.

Quotes

Battle quotes

Heh heh heh... One Sacred Stone remains. Once it is destroyed, darkness will consume the world. What will you do? Will you cower in fear? Heh heh heh...
— In Chapter 19.
Grr... Your eyes annoy me... Why do you not despair? Why do you not surrender?
— In Chapter 20.
Heh heh heh. The young lady of Rausten... The more cruel and gruesome your death, the more that cur Mansel would weep, am I right? And that would make me so very, very happy.
— Against L'Arachel.

Death quotes

Heh heh heh... No! No! It's been so long. I got carried away. I'd best stop and withdraw for now. Follow me. Come to Darkling Woods... The Demon King awaits your pleasure...
— Retreat quote in Chapter 19.
Heh heh heh... Even if you defeat me, you're too late to stop it. The one true demon...will rise...
— Riev, in Chapter 20.

Trivia

File:Ss fe8 riev japanese stats ch 20.png
Screenshot of Riev's Chapter 20 appearance in the Japanese release of The Sacred Stones.
  • In the international versions of the game, Riev's stats do not change between Chapter 19 and Chapter 20 (with the exception of Difficult mode, where he gains 1 in Magic). In the Japanese version, however, Riev gains a massive boost in Chapter 20, reaching the stat caps for all but Luck and Defense, and has 65 HP (in comparison, playable units have an HP cap of 60).
  • In the Official Nintendo Power Guidebook for The Sacred Stones, Riev's base stats are mistakenly listed as those from the Japanese version of the game instead of the Western version.[1]
