Rhys is the first healer available. His high base magic and excellent growth mean he can support the team immediately and continue to remain a strong staff user. Most notably, his range with the Physic and Rescue staves will be very high. He also has an excellent resistance base and growth, making him a useful magic tank. However, his base health, speed, and defense are all very low, making him extremely frail and prone to getting doubled. After promotion, Rhys becomes the only player unit that can use light magic. Unfortunately light | After promotion, Rhys becomes the only player unit that can use light magic. Unfortunately light tomes have low might, so he will often not deal much damage despite his excellent magic. He will almost never double, due to his poor base speed, lack of a good speed growth to compensate, and he will be weighed down by all light tomes due to bad strength; this can be slightly circumvented if he is given Energy Drops and Speedwings, but even then, he would have to be very lucky to find an enemy that is slow enough for him to double (such as armored units or units who are weighed down by heavy weapons). At best, light magic can be useful as magic chip damage if Rhys has nothing better to do. | ||
When compared to Mist, Rhys joins earlier with stronger base magic, so he is better in the early game. Past promotion, Mist gains a mount, giving her extra mobility and Canto from healing, so she is much more versatile through midgame and late-game than Rhys. Rhys also starts with D rank staves while Mist starts with E, which limits Mist a bit more. | When compared to Mist, Rhys joins earlier with stronger base magic, so he is better in the early game. Rhys also starts with D rank staves while Mist starts with E, which limits Mist a bit more. In terms of weaponry, Rhys can use easily accessible Light magic tomes, whereas Mist would need to use magic swords (only two can be acquired) to make meaningful offensive contributions. | ||
Rhys starts with the Serenity skill, which does not have much impact on him. If the player does not have any other skills to add, it is recommended to keep it to ensure his avoid does not lower too much at bad biorhythm. Rhys is one of two healers that Ike's group starts within | Rhys is one of two healers that Ike's group starts within Part III (the other being Mist). He has very high base magic and resistance, and excellent growths in both, making him a solid staff bot and magic tank. However, his speed base and growth are low, so he will very rarely double attack unless given significant speed investment. Offensively, this relegates him to 1-2 range magic chip (admittedly powerful and accurate). He also has very low bases and growths in physical durability. To his credit, he starts 2 points away from capping magic (capped with Path of Radiance transfers) and 6 from resistance, so if he caps both quickly, BEXP can help patch his weaker stats to help double, though it is recommended to keep him as a staff bot. His role as a healer is also less valuable due to the abundance of strong healing items (better Vulneraries, Concoctions, and Elixirs) compared to Path of Radiance. | ||
Rhys starts with A rank staves so he can use just about any staff immediately beside the legendary healing ones (Fortify and Matrona). The only other units before endgame with the same starting staff rank as Rhys are Elincia and Oliver, neither of whom are available for much of the game. Due to Rhys's excellent base magic and growth, his range with the Rescue, Physic, and Silence staves will start and remain consistently high. His only weakness as a staff bot is his lack of a mount. | Rhys starts with A rank staves so he can use just about any staff immediately beside the legendary healing ones (Fortify and Matrona). Rhys does not start with any skills. Since he works best as a staff bot, Shade helps him avoid attacks, and Miracle can also help due to his excellent luck base and growth, though neither are reliable skills and the player should always keep him out of danger. | If well trained before the conclusion of Part III, Rhys can work well with any of the three teams in Part IV. However, if he's sufficiently trained to be combat viable in Part IV, then he would work best on Micaiah's team, since as a magic unit, he is not affected by the desert terrain. This significantly reduces the chances of him getting mobbed by the enemy infantry units due to their reduced movement, though he must still watch out for the enemy Dragonmasters, who are not affected by the desert. | ||

Rhys was first added to the game in a special summer variation as part of the Summer Passing update, and was made available to players in the twenty-ninth edition of the Tempest Trials+, "Summer Two-Piece", which initially ran from June 19, 2020 through June 29, 2020. The aforementioned summer variation of Rhys is the only one currently available in Heroes, and is based on his Radiant Dawn incarnation. | |||

“ | I was sick all the time, and constantly getting bumps and scrapes... [My parents] only agreed to let me follow you because you were a strong mercenary group! They figured I would be safe. | ” | — Rhys, to Titania |
---|
Rhys (Japanese: キルロイ Kilroy) is the Greil Mercenaries' primary healer. He is a frail and weak man, yet cares deeply for others.
Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance
Role
For the majority of his life, Rhys lived with his parents. He had been unable to find work for himself due to his fragile constitution. Before the events of Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, Rhys joined the Greil Mercenaries after finding and healing a gravely wounded Titania in the forest. In the game, he first appears in Chapter 2. He is the only playable unit in the game to be capable of wielding Light magic.
Starting stats and growth rates
- Stats with two figures separated by a ~ are presented as a range, representing stats that vary due to random growths. The figures to the left and right of the ~ are the stat's minimum and maximum possible values respectively. Rhys's in-game stats are determined based on his internal stats and three automatically generated level ups using the generic Priest growths.

Analysis
This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Due to weak HP and defense growth rates, he will continue to stay physically frail.
After promotion, Rhys becomes the only player unit that can use light magic.
Rhys learns Flare from an Occult, but due to his weak weapon type and low speed, he is one of the worst magic units to learn Flare. Rhys can benefit from Shade to help protect him. His high luck means he also can benefit from Miracle, in case he is exposed.
Rhys has a fire affinity which gives attack and accuracy. However, this alone does not benefit him because he works best as a support unit. Mia is another infantry unit with a fire affinity, so pairing her will give both units a massive +3 attack boost at cap support (very beneficial for Mia). Similarly, Ulki has a water affinity, so he can also get a +3 attack boost when paired with Rhys while giving some defense to both units.

- Note: The above stats are Rhys's default stats. If a Radiant Dawn game was started via a data transfer from Path of Radiance and Rhys managed to reach level 20 in his highest possible class in the Path of Radiance save file, any stat Rhys capped in Path of Radiance will result in a boost to his base in the stat in question in Radiant Dawn. The boost is a +5 for max HP, and +2 for strength, magic, skill, speed, luck, defense or resistance. In addition, Rhys's weapon level at the end of a transferred Path of Radiance game can result in an boost to his weapon experience in Radiant Dawn. See Data transfer § Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn for more information.

Analysis
This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Rhys is one of two healers that Ike's group starts within Part III (the other being Mist).
Rhys does not start with any skills. Since he works best as a staff bot, Shade helps him avoid attacks, and Miracle can also help due to his excellent luck base and growth, though neither are reliable skills and the player should always keep him out of danger.
Rhys has a fire affinity which gives attack and accuracy. However, this alone does not benefit him because he works best as a support unit. Mia and Boyd are other infantry units on the same team with fire affinities, so pairing either with Rhys gives both units a +3 attack +15 hit bonus, which both Mia and Boyd value. Ike also benefits from the extra attack and accuracy and, in exchange, gives Rhys some needed to avoid with Ike's earth affinity.
Fire Emblem Heroes
Role
Rhys was first added to the game in a special summer variation as part of the Summer Passing update, and was made available to players in the twenty-ninth edition of the Tempest Trials+, "Summer Two-Piece", which initially ran from June 19, 2020 through June 29, 2020. The aforementioned summer variation of Rhys is the only one currently available in Heroes, and is based on his Radiant Dawn incarnation.
