Lilina is alive

We must defeat the rebels and save Lilina before Narcian arrives from Bern!
— Roy

Reunion (Japanese: 再会 Reunion) is the eighth chapter in Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade. Once the city of Ostia has been freed from the rebel forces, the Lycian League Army enters the castle to rescue Lilina and defeat the head of the rebellion, Legance.

In order to play the sidequest after, Lilina must survive this chapter.

Plot

Main article: Reunion (The Binding Blade)/Script

Inside of Castle Ostia, Legance hears the news of the Lycian League Army's victory in the city. Although he is furious at Debias's incompetence and the Ilian knights' interference, Legance begins immediately to prepare the counterattack. Addressing a nearby soldier, he starts shouting orders: all soldiers are to fortify the castle's defenses. If the Lycian army is not defeated right here and now, Bern will surely get rid of the rebels.

The soldier agrees and turns around to leave, but Legance stops him. He has another order for him, and that is to kill Lilina. The soldier, clearly startled, asks why; weren't they supposed to keep her alive? Legance explains him that, if they use Lilina as a hostage now, most soldiers could turn on the rebels, as they still believe in her. The soldier is still confused, though, and remarks that the rebels will turn on them if Lilina is killed, anyways.

Clearly annoyed now, Legance shouts back that they are to kill her discreetly, so they can blame the Alliance Army. The soldier leaves, and Lilina is thrown in a room at the center of the castle.

Near the castle's entrance, Roy is about to start the attack when a man intercepts him, addressing the lord as the general of the Lycian army. Confused due to the man knowing him, Roy demands that the man identifies himself.

The stranger then presents himself as Astolfo, a man in the service of Lord Hector. Merlinus is quite suspicious of him, though; Astolfo does not look like a knight or a soldier. Amused, Astolfo explains to Roy's adviser that he is a spy, and he is supposed to collect info. If people could identify him as a spy by looking at him, then he would not be any good, right?

Satisfied, Merlinus lets him keep talking. Astolfo informs Roy that he has been traveling around Lycia during the last month, trying to collect the latest news. When he heard of Lord Hector's death, he hurried back to Ostia, but he could not make it in time. Ashamed of having failed to save his lord, he now wants to join Roy's army and make sure he saves his lady. Roy gladly welcomes him, and promptly inquires Lilina's whereabouts. Fortunately, Astolfo managed to discover where Lilina and Legance are - she is in a small room near the center of the castle, while he is sitting in Lord Hector's throne.

Roy states they have no time to lose, then, and urges his army to defeat Legance and rescue Lilina before Narcian and his men arrive from Bern.

The battle starts, and Lilina, still imprisoned, can hear the noise. She wonders what is happening out there...

The Lycian Alliance Army advances towards the throne, but they are not alone on such effort. Three soldiers, who were loyal to Ostia's true leaders and managed to survive the rebellion, are wandering through the castle. One of them, Ogier, finds a path, but he then realizes it is a dead end. His leader, Barthe, checks the wall and informs them that it has some cracks. They should be able to break it with just a few hits. Then, the last member of the group, Gwendolyn, wonders where Lady Lilina could be. Barthe replies he has an idea of her whereabouts; what he does not know, though, is what the growing noise could be.

Gwendolyn quickly suggests that it is being caused by the Alliance Army, and hopes her brother is with them. Barthe reminds her that they do not know whether he is alive or not, and to Ogier's protests, he adds that, as Ostian knights, they should not let themselves stray from reality. Gwendolyn quietly nods.

Near the throne room, two thieves appear, ready to loot as much as they can. One of them is Cath, who loudly wonders whether nobles are really that stupid to be fighting all the time. She quickly adds that, after all, it is quite beneficial for her, and goes to look for treasure.

The army finally arrives to Lilina's cell, where she is found safe, much to the relief of all Ostian knights, especially Bors and Barthe.

After defeating Legance, and if Lilina survived, she and Roy are finally able to talk for a while. Lilina thanks her friend for having retaken the castle in her father's place, so he did not have to leave the battle at Araphen. Hopefully, it will not take too longer for him to return to Ostia.

Roy then realizes that nobody has informed Lilina of Lord Hector's death, and it is up to him to tell her the truth. Slowly and carefully, he tells her that, when he arrived in Araphen, the battle had been lost. After hearing Lilina's pained question, he continues and apologizes; had he moved faster, Lord Hector would not have fallen...

Lilina says there is no reason for Roy to apologize. As the daughter of a warrior, she has been taught to be ready for this day. She then comments that her vassals should have told her, that she is strong enough to handle these things. Roy's simple answer is that she should not hold her true feelings in front of him, that he will be by her side in her times of need.

Beginning log

Ostia's military primarily consists of soldiers in heavy armor. With them, Castle Ostia has always been famously secure. For countless years, the castle has been said to be impregnable.

However, that rumor was about to be proven wrong by Roy, who, ironically, only does so for the castle's own protection...

Strategy

This section details unofficial strategies that may help with completion of the chapter. This may not work for everybody.

The last main chapter in Lycia is a long one. Recommended units are cavaliers, Shanna, Sue, Marcus, and Zelot, who can carry the slower units and the thieves. Chad is also a good option, since there are doors and chests with valuable treasures inside them. However, if the player was careful enough to buy one or two Chest Keys in the last chapter, which should go to the mounted units' inventories, Chad is not necessary.

The player is given two new units at the beginning of the chapter: Astolfo, a thief who starts beside Roy, and Lilina, who is in another room. She has no weapon to defend herself, and there is an archer who can kill her in two shots. In the first turn, Lilina should move to the upper left corner of the room, and in the second, to the upper right corner. The archer will leave after that. Astolfo can defend himself without too much trouble, unless he is surrounded by lance users.

In turn 6, three more units will join Roy's army: two knights and a mercenary. Since one of the knights and the mercenary are at a low level, perhaps the player would like not to move them to destroy the wall (which has only 10 HP left). They should be careful, though, and locate them so they are not hit by the nearby archers. Moreover, these new units are really close to the most dangerous part of the map, where a big cluster of enemies wait. The rest of the original forces can be picked one by one; the only dangers could be the mage with Aircalibur, which is effective against flying units, and the knight with a Killer Lance - if he lands a critical hit, the defending unit will most likely die.

There are two reinforcements groups in this chapter. The first one is composed by a thief and Cath (if she was not killed in Chapter 6), who will appear from the two southern stairs. Hopefully, they will move north, to where Lilina is, and open her door before going for the chests. Lilina can either wait there or move towards the main army; the latter is recommended, as it would not be good for her to meet the next wave of enemies. If the player desires, they can leave the thieves to open some chests... but if they steal any weapon, tome, or staff, they are lost forever. Only items can be stolen back from any unit's inventory. Once Roy talks to Cath, she will stop stealing.

The second reinforcement wave comes in turns 16, 17, 18, and 19. The archers and mercenaries will come up from the stairs, while the soldiers and knights will appear from the southwestern corner of the map. None of them are a real threat.

Legance is the first promoted boss, and as such, it can be a challenge to the player's units. A trained Lugh (Lilina will not be ready for him, and she will surely be killed) or strong sword-wieding units with an Armorslayer (Ogier comes with one) are recommended. Once he is defeated, Roy can seize the throne and the chapter will end with one of two possible endings. If Lilina survived the chapter, the player will go to an extra chapter, but if she died, the story will move to the Western Isles.
