Strategy
This section details unofficial strategies that may help with completion of the chapter. This may not work for everybody. |
The first thing you will notice on Shadow Dragon's H5 difficulty is that everyone is now packing Silver weaponry, and all of the specialized weapons are now forged for more power and accuracy. In addition, the enemy is starting to field promoted enemies more often, and their speed stats are typically in the mid-teens. Your weaker units are no longer going to have the ability to keep up with the power curve, so watch your back.
In this chapter, you recruit Maria and Minerva. Maria is a low level Cleric who serves as a solid healer for the next few chapters. Notably, she is one of four characters who can wield the Aum staff, and the most powerful healer of the lot. Minerva is a prepromote Dracoknight who has an immediate A-rank in axes, allowing her access to the powerful Hauteclere. She can hit very hard with it, but is still inferior to a promoted Barst.
You will receive the game's first Master Seal from an enemy Hero. There are three good candidates to receive it if you wish to promote someone immediately: Barst, who gains a ludicrous 5 speed after he goes from a Fighter to a Hero; Caeda, who gains 4 strength and 5 defense as a Dracoknight; and Lena, who gains the ability to fight and heal at the same time and is likely approaching or at level 20. Merric and Gordin are also somewhat considerable candidates since Merric also gains the ability to heal and Gordin gets 5 skill and speed and 2 movement; however, Merric gains about the same amount of power as Lena, who is almost certainly a higher level than he is, while if you want a Sniper at this point, you can just use Jeorge.
For the chapter itself, you start out facing four Cavaliers who shouldn't be too much trouble. Try to kill them all on turn 3 so that you can intercept and skewer the Thief who stole the Levin Sword on turn 4. You'll also be attacked by four fliers who might outflank you or join the cavalry, depending on their mood; leave behind a General to take the fort and beat back both them and the horde of reinforcements. Be very careful with the Dracoknights; 14 speed plus 12 strength plus Silver Lances equals a lot of pain. Once they're dead, make your way through the prison. Be very careful with the Sniper; other than him, it shouldn't be too much trouble to recruit Maria. Once she's with you, exit through the north, kill the Hero, recruit Minerva, and make your way to the boss. Zharov is very dangerous with his forged Javelin; have Barst Hammer him to death. Speaking of Hammers, this is the last opportunity you will have to buy them in bulk; take advantage now if you so desire.
Trivia
- On H5 difficulty, this is the first chapter in the Fire Emblem series to have enemies with forged weaponry.
