“ | I tell ya, that kid's a strategist in the making. | ” | — Alec, on Oifey's tactical acumen |
---|
(オイフェ Oifey) is a cousin of Grannvale's House Chalphy, and the grandson of a renowned Chalphy tactician, Lord Sesar. Orphaned at a young age, he was raised along with Sigurd, who came to consider him a younger brother,[1] and during Sigurd's battles in Verdane, Agustria and his troubles beyond, served as Sigurd's tactician at the young age of 14. In the prelude to the Battle of Belhalla, Oifey was entrusted by Sigurd with raising his son Seliph in hiding in Tirnanog, under the protection of Prince Shanan, and served Seliph as a knight in the war against the Grannvale Empire. At the war's end, Oifey assumed the post of Duke of Chalphy, as the sole available relative of House Chalphy.[2]
Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War
First generation
Role
At the onset of the Verdane invasion of Grannvale, Oifey volunteered his services to Sigurd in the battle, despite his martial arts training still lacking at the time. Sigurd granted Oifey the position of advisor and strategist, which he retained in his travels with Sigurd for the following three years.
In Grann 760, following Sigurd's recapture of Lubeck Castle from Langobalt, Sigurd tasked Oifey with taking the infant Seliph and seeking refuge in Isaach, under the assumption that its remote corners would be free from Grannvale oppression. While reluctant to abandon Sigurd at first, Oifey eventually accepted along with Shanan, and the two left for Isaach's north with Seliph, Larcei, Ulster and Delmud. In the subsequent years, Oifey acted as a father and mentor figure to Seliph and the other children.
Second generation
Role
At the time Danan learned of the status of Tirnanog as Seliph and Shanan's hiding place, Oifey was out of the country on a scouting mission with Lester/Dimna and Delmud/Tristan, surveying the state of neighboring nations. The three returned to Tirnanog shortly into the skirmish, after Seliph had sortied with Larcei/Radney, Ulster/Roddlevan and Lana/Mana to repel the invasion, and joined Sigurd's efforts, forming the first members of his liberation army.

Personality and character
Oifey was devoted to Sigurd and held him in the highest esteem, as a result of their upbringing as foster brothers.[1] He was determined to assist Sigurd as much as possible, resulting in his service as Sigurd's advisor. Throughout his adult life, Oifey was plagued by guilt over what he perceived to be his abandonment of Sigurd prior to the Battle of Belhalla, and so devoted himself to Seliph's upbringing and protection in repentence;[3] on occasion, this led him to clash with Lewyn over his harsh rebuking of Seliph.[4]

- ↑ 1.0 1.1 "Lord Seliph, I, too, am in great debt to your father. Lord Sigurd took me in when I was left alone, orphaned, and even took care of me like his own brother. And even then...I wasn’t there with him to the last, to see with my own eyes...I’m such a fool." — Oifey, Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War
- ↑ "Oifey: Well then, Lord Seliph, I’ll be making toward Chalphy.
Seliph: Eh!? Why, Oifey!? I still need you! I thought you’d always stay beside me!
Oifey: No, my lord. It’s time that you find your own road and walk it with pride. And so, I’ll be protecting Chalphy in your stead.
Seliph: Chalphy... I, I understand. Your words are right as always, Oifey. Since I’m not inheriting the family home, there’s no one else with Chalphy’s bloodline but you. I can’t leave it just like that...no matter how much it hurts.
Oifey: Please be at ease, my lord. I shall be protecting you from my place at Chalphy, myself." — Oifey and Seliph, Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War - ↑ "Fee: It's really admirable that you've devoted your life to keeping Prince Seliph safe.
Oifey: Hm... We abandoned Sir Sigurd's army right at the battle's peak. It's not something I'm proud of. But the mission awaiting us was a fate worse than death. That went for your folks as well." — Fee and Oifey, Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War - ↑ "Lewyn, his Majesty is a little tired, it’s unnecessary to mention that..." — Oifey, Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War
