— Chrom and Lucina, the former having discovered "Marth"'s true identity as the latter

Of Sacred Blood is the thirteenth chapter in Fire Emblem Awakening. In this chapter, while in Plegia as part of negotiations for warships to take on the Valmese forces, Robin learns a disturbing fact about himself/herself. Additionally, "Marth"'s true identity is finally discovered.

In addition to the next chapter in the storyline, clearing this chapter is one of the requirements toward unlocking twelve different paralogue chapters--in particular, the paralogue chapters where the player can recruit the other children who hail from the future. To complete unlocking those chapters, the fixed parents of those children must be married; there is no set deadline for this requirement to be met. Some child paralogues may require additional requirements to reach, such as clearing additional chapters along the main storyline or unlocking additional child paralogues. As long as Chrom did not marry the Maiden, the player is guaranteed to unlock at least one of these paralogues upon first clearing the chapter.

Plot

Main article: Of Sacred Blood/Script

Chrom, Robin, and Frederick arrive in Plegia, at the designated spot on Carrion Isle, where they are greeted by Aversa. Aversa greets Chrom and says that Plegia welcomes them; after Chrom calls Aversa out, she notes that fate has designs for her yet. Chrom asks Aversa if she serves the new king, identifying him as Validar, to which Aversa confirms; Frederick reveals that Validar is said to worship Grima, to which Aversa confirms that he is Grimleal and both are believers. Validar has often said it was his faith that got him through after Gangrel's death—a difficult time, but Validar kept order where there might have been chaos. Aversa reveals she and Validar had meant to arrange an official visit to Ylisstol; she is about to say more as Validar arrives on the scene. Validar reveals it being an honor to finally meet Chrom, the introduces himself as the king of Plegia; Chrom states the honor is his, but asks if it's possible if they've met before—then realizes he has, but Validar denies the claim, saying he would remember any encounter with Ylissean royalty. Chrom calls Robin close and starts whispering to him/her, with Robin noting Validar at least looks like the assassin that came after Emmeryn; Validar notices Robin's presence, with Robin asking how Validar knew of him/her, Validar replying that the whole world knows of Ylisse's master tactician and does indeed see the sparkle of wisdom in Robin's eyes. Chrom, again whispering, tells Robin that they had killed Validar; Robin knows of this, but sees the resembelance as uncanny, with Chrom wondering how Validar could possibly be there. Validar cuts Chrom off by revealing that the negotiations haven't yet begun and there's already whispering; Chrom apologizes and reveals he meant no disrespect. Robin, again whispering, asks Chrom what they should do; Chrom says they should do nothing for now, but asks that they stay close and be ready for anything. Validar decides to open the negotiations; Aversa reveals that Plegia can offer no soldiers, but will provide 800 warships and 200 transports, as well as fully fund the campaign against Valm. Frederick notes the offer as surprisingly generous, that they could not ask for more and Plegia is willing to offer all of their assets; Validar reveals he would provide soldiers, but the Plegian army remains in shambles after the last war, and asks if the gold and ships will suffice as a sign of Plegia's commitment to the cause. Chrom accepts the offer and thanks Validar; Validar states the honor is theirs, stating he looks forward to building a strong bond between their nations, to which Chrom states he does as well. Chrom asks that if there's nothing else, that he and his men have to hurry back to Port Ferox; Aversa asks if they have to leave this soon, saying there's one more introduction she has to make, with Chrom asking who. Validar reveals that it's a hierophant, the highest of their order in all of Plegia. (The hierophant's gender is stated to be the same as Robin's.)

After a short fade, the hierophant walks onto the scene; he/she first appears hooded. Robin asks them if they lead the people in worship, that they were discussing religion earlier; the hierophant remains silent, with Robin asking if s/he said anything to offend the former. The hierophant reveals that the heart still sleeps, but blood flows through it, and the blood is strong; Robin asks if the hierophant was talking to him/her, and Frederick asks the hierophant to lower his/her cowl—Ylissean custom dictates that it is courtesy when in presence of royalty. The hierophant reveals they are a long way from Ylisse, but obliges—shocking Chrom and Frederick in the process. The hierophant, now looking exactly like Robin, asks if it's better; Robin, Chrom, and Frederick all express their shock, with Frederick believing it to be a manner of sorcery, and Robin revealing the hierophant to look exactly like him/her. The hierophant proceeds to introduce himself/herself—the same name as Robin; the hierophant notices that his/her name is also Robin's name as well, noting it as a strange coincidence. Validar notes the situation as being rather curious, and wonders what the odds are, and reveals that the discussions are finished in any event, and allows the Ylisseans to be on their way; Chrom asks to hold a moment and asks what the meaning of the recent goings-on is, something in relation to the hierophant and Robin, but Aversa cuts him off and says there's no time for such trivial matters now—Plegia has aid preparations to attend to, and the Shepherds have a long, hard journey ahead, and asking the Shepherds to be careful on their way back to Port Ferox, as the Plegian highroads can be treacherous at this time of the year.

We cut to the highroads later that night, where Robin walks onto the scene alone, unable to sleep. Robin wonders about the hierophant, how he/she could have Robin's same face; a mysterious voice comes into Robin's mind and asks Robin heed him. Robin asks who is there, then notes that there's no one else, that he/she is alone; the mysterious voice again asks Robin to heed his call. Robin then starts to suffer a headache, with ringing sounds and erratic movements; Robin asks what's going on with his/her head, who the voice is and what exactly is happening. Validar teleports onto the scene and asks why he/she closes his heart to him; Robin notices Validar's presence, and Validar asks if Robin has truly forgotten something. Robin notices that Validar was the mysterious voice in his/her head, reveals his/her headache, and asks Validar to get out of his/her mind. Validar notes Robin's arrogance, asking how dare he/she take such a tone with his/her own father; Robin is shocked at this revelation, and reveals that Robin is of his flesh, of sacred blood, and is to serve a glorious purpose. Validar asks Robin to search deep into his/her heart, that he/she already knows it is his/her destiny; Robin again asks Validar to get out of his/her mind. Validar asks why Robin resists him, that his/her rightful place is at his side, not wasting his/her time with "these doomed servants of Naga"; Validar asks Robin give himself/herself to Grima, to let him join his/her strength to the fell dragon. Chrom arrives on the scene and calls out to Robin; Validar, noticing Chrom has arrived, tells Robin he/she will in time see the truth, and that is all it will be. Validar teleports away from the scene right as Robin's headache stops; Chrom asks Robin if he/she is all right, that he heard shouting. Robin, still recovering from the headache's effects, says he/she thinks he/she is fine, then thanks Chrom and reconfirms his/her earlier answer; Chrom notes "fine" is a poor choice of words and asks what happened. Robin tells Chrom about Validar's voice in his/her mind and being told he/she is his son/daughter; when Robin tells Chrom the latter detail, Chrom asks if it's true, with Robin stating he/she doesn't know either way, yet felt a strange connection between himself/herself and Validar. Chrom brings up the hierophant doppelganger and wonders if he/she is also Validar's son/daughter as well, asking if the hierophant and Robin are twins; Robin says he/she can't remember, but if he/she is being honest, it would explain much, saying he/she isn't really sure he/she wants to know the truth of his/her past anymore. Chrom tells Robin that he/she is himself/herself before being any man's son/daughter, and asks Robin to remember that, to which Robin thanks him. Chrom asks Robin if he/she can walk, with Robin believing so.

After a short fade, Frederick runs onto the scene and tells Chrom that they are under attack—Risen have encircled their camp! Chrom reveals that they posted sentries, and asks how it happened; Frederick reveals the Risen used a stealthy approach, a behavior not seen out of Risen before—either the Risen are learning the Shepherds' ways, or somebody is commanding them. Chrom accuses Validar, then tells anyone who can bear arms to equip themselves and tell them that they fight for their lives. Preparations take place at this point.

Once preparations are finished, a dark mage arrives on the scene accompanied by a storm of crows, which Chrom notices and believes something's upon them; the dark mage starts to make crow-sound jokes, asking if the Shepherds are lost or a lost cause. Chrom asks the dark mage to show himself, that he can't see anything through the birds and trying to shoo them away; the birds disperse and the dark mage reveals himself, also revealing his name to be Henry. Henry asks Chrom if he's claustrophobic, albeit with a crow-sound joke, and telling himself that his humor slays him; Chrom tells Henry that his humor won't slay him if the Risen do it first, this is no time for jokes, and to hide himself. Henry reveals that he thought the people were all right, then confirms this fact—with a pun; he says he'd wish the Shepherds good luck in killing the Risen, but they're already dead, to which Chrom says they are well aware. Henry reveals the ravens wanted to deliver a message, and does so in bird speak; trying to translate it to human tongue, he tries to think over the translation for one of the words, then reveals the ravens' message: the Shepherds are trapped. Chrom reveals they already know this, asking where they all came from; Henry tries to reply with a "birds and bees" story involving zombies, but Chrom states he should save the Risen the trouble and silence Henry himself. Henry states he wishes to join Chrom's cause, using a bird-sound pun, then revealing he can help them, that he knows magic; Chrom notices Henry's robes and comes to the conclusion that Henry is a Plegian dark mage, then asks Henry why he'd help them; Henry tells Chrom not to let his joking around fool him, he's got a thing for killing, that most funny people do—that the two things must be linked somehow. Henry asks Chrom if he's ever talked to a jester when he's off duty, that they're "sick dastards". Right as the battle is about to begin, Henry reveals the ravens also said to keep an eye on the forts—if somebody's nearby when more monsters emerge, it could cause quite a stir, again not missing an opportunity to make a bird pun. The battle begins at this point.

Once the battle ends, Chrom is relieved, he thought the onslaught would never end; Robin cuts him off, asking Chrom to look out. An assassin appears on the scene, to Chrom's shock; "Marth" arrives on the scene and calls out to Chrom—calling him "father"! The assassin initiates an attack using a Killing Edge; "Marth" does a Dual Guard to protect Chrom. Chrom does not counterattack, regardless of whether or not he is equipped with a melee-capable weapon. Once the assassin's attack is repelled, the assassin teleports away from the scene. "Marth" thanks Chrom for being safe; Chrom is surprised at her calling him "father", and once she notices having done so, asks Chrom to speak to him privately, to which Chrom accepts.

We cut to the spot where Chrom and "Marth" are having their private conversation; "Marth" states she doesn't know where to begin. Chrom already knows the identity "Marth" isn't her true identity, but doesn't know what else he could call her, yet says he won't ask anything of her she doesn't wish to reveal. Whoever she is, Chrom tells her that Ylisse owes her a debt beyond repaying. "Marth" accepts the thanks, but states she prefers Chrom know the truth; she asks Chrom to look closely and all will be made clear.

(Cutscene: "Marth No More") As "Marth" walks toward Chrom, Chrom takes a look at her left eye, and spots a Brand in it; Chrom notices it as the Brand of the Exalt. At this point, Chrom recognizes "Marth"'s true identity: his daughter Lucina! Chrom tells Lucina that she deserved better from him than one sword and a world full of troubles, and apologizes. Lucina begins to cry, then runs up to Chrom, calling out "father".

Once the cutscene ends, after brief moments of silence from both Chrom and Lucina, Chrom asks Lucina if she feels better; Lucina confirms and apologizes, that everything rushed back at once. Chrom still has the "father" callout on his mind; Lucina asks if she should call him something else, but Chrom reveals it's just strange to his ear and that he likes it. Chrom also states it will take some getting used to. Robin arrives on the scene and calls out to Chrom; as the camera turns, Chrom's wife is also revealed to be on the scene (unless Chrom married the Maiden, in which only Robin is shown to be on the scene). Chrom asks Robin what's going on; Robin just noticed that Chrom and "Marth" were alone together and the latter was crying, revealing that such is how ill rumors are born. The scene diverges at this point based on who Chrom's wife is; Chrom's wife, if present, appears to think Chrom is cheating on her with "Marth", still unaware of what's really going on. Chrom asks Lucina if he can tell his wife (or Robin, if Chrom married the Maiden), to which Lucina agrees, and Chrom's wife surprised to hear that name; Chrom will then drop the bombshell on his wife that the woman present is their daughter. Chrom's wife will deny this to be true, but Lucina reveals that this detail is the truth and asks her to look into her eyes.

We cut to a shot of Lucina's left eye; her mother will note that Lucina's eye has the Brand. Chrom reveals it to be the brand carried by House Ylisse's bloodline; his wife will compare the pattern on this Lucina's eye with the one of the baby Lucina back at Castle Ylisstol. Chrom asks his wife if she understands what's going on, to which she reveals she does not, asks what happened to the baby Lucina back at the castle, and wonders what sort of trick is being pulled (this is skipped over if Chrom married the Maiden). Lucina reveals that her baby self is safe right where they left her; she is that same baby from another time, one that is yet to be. Her mother is shocked to hear that; Lucina says she came from more than 10 years into the future, after history takes a dark and most destructive turn.

(Cutscene: "Dire Future") We cut to the future as it originally transpired, where flames surround an effigy of Naga. We see some people run away from the scene, only to see the surrounding buildings also burning, the populace crying out to the gods. We cut to inside a castle, where soldiers are fighting Risen and are being defeated; a sword is being heard hitting one of the Risen, and it is later revealed to be Lucina wielding it—Lucina declaring that she's the woman the Risen want. Lucina tells the soldiers they can't let the Risen win, asking each of them to grab a sword and fight. The player may save their game once the cutscene ends.

Back at the scene of Lucina's revelation, with Lissa having joined them, Robin asks what happens in the future; Lucina reveals Grima was resurrected—his roar a death knell for man, a scream that silences all hope, death everywhere. Robin is shocked at the revelation that Chrom and the Shepherds are all dead, a fact Lucina confirms, to which Robin doesn't know what to say. Chrom reveals that it's a tale that beggars belief, yet its truth stands before them—she carries Falchion, his same sword, the same sword the first exalt used to defeat Grima long ago; Lucina calls her blade and his one in the same, it was all she had left of him. Chrom reveals there is only one Falchion, and tells Robin he believes Lucina, with Lissa joining in sharing Chrom's belief—Lissa even stating she saw Lucina actually come from the future, having fallen right out of the sky, having never seen anything like it; Lucina thanks her aunt, then reveals that Naga feared mankind would face Grima again and devised a ritual in preparation for that day. The ritual allowed one to return to the past and alter events already written. Lucina made the journey with others, but became separated; Lissa asks Lucina not to worry, if the others are out there, they'll find them.

The next scene to play depends on who Chrom married and is thus Lucina's mother. If Chrom did not marry the Maiden, and thus Lucina's mother is on the scene, Lucina's mother will ask her if she really is her daughter, to which Lucina confirms; Lucina's mother will note on just what Lucina grew up to be, with Lucina thanking her but not calling her "mother". Lucina's mother asks why Lucina didn't address her as "mother"; Lucina revealed she might mind, but she reveals she doesn't. Lucina starts to cry, then runs up to her mother, addressing her as such and hugging her. Lucina's mother reveals she's proud of her, with Lucina revealing she missed her mother more than she'll ever know. Should the Maiden be Lucina's mother, another scene with Chrom and Lucina will play instead; in this case, Chrom says he wishes he could introduce her to her younger self back at the castle, to see the amazing woman she'll become. Lucina confirms this and also wishes to see her mother as well; Chrom reveals Lucina's mother would be happy after the initial shock. Lucina will reveal she's missed both her parents very much.
