“ | An unsettling face peered down at them through the pitch black darkness. It was the legendary arcanist Nuibaba, mistress of Fear Mountain and terror to all. By offering up her soul, she had purchased the very darkest of sortilege; a single word from her lips was enough to snuff out life itself. | ” | — Pre-map narration |

Nuibaba (Japanese: ヌイババ, Nuibaba) is a minor antagonist first appearing in Fire Emblem Gaiden, in which he appears as an Arcanist who presides over Fear Mountain from his manor. He is presumably a high-ranking member of Duma's clergy, as he has Marla, Jedah's daughter, under his command to guard Fear Mountain. He wields the powerful magic spell, Medusa, which he is said to have received in exchange for his soul.[1]
Nuibaba was redesigned significantly in Echoes: Shadows of Valentia, now appearing as a female Witch. Additionally, Nuibaba is stated to sacrifice girls from all over Rigel to monsters in order to preserve her youth.[2]
Fire Emblem Gaiden
Role
Nuibaba appears somewhat early in Act 4; he is holding Tatiana hostage to keep Zeke under the control of Jerome.
The Mage Ring in his inventory makes him a formidable opponent, as it greatly increases the range of his Medusa spell.

Trivia
- The opening to the fight against Nuibaba is the only map in the entirety of Gaiden to have any sort of chapter narration.
- While referred to with male pronouns in the original game, Nuibaba is female in the remake. This could be due to the "baba" portion of his name could be construed as coming from 婆 old woman and the character's association with the female monster, Medusa.
- Despite Nuibaba's class being changed to witch, Nuibaba is still referred to as an arcanist outside of gameplay.
